  1. Shared this story with my ninety year old mil. ”How could anybody be so stupid?” she asked. I reminded her we were talking about aggy. “Oh, yeah. Well it is what is.”
  2. I regret that the Surly football board, which I assume is the most public and lurked board, has such a shitty level of discourse.
  3. Every enumerated right, which absolutely includes the right to privacy.
  4. Twenty percentage intervals. https://itep.org/whopays/california/ https://itep.org/whopays/texas/ of course, I can’t read all of the image. I have no doubt you will correct my interpretation of these charts, which is the top 20% of income earners pay 15.9% of state expenses in Texas, and 31.7% of state expenses in CA.https://itep.org/whopays/california/
  5. Wife’s grandfather and grandmother met and married in Torreón, and were warned to leave the country. Family lore claims the warning came from Villa, himself.
  6. My brother married in Milwaukee. I arrive in the city after 6pm. Liquor stores are closed and other stores are prohibited from selling beer, or wine, after six. You can buy beer, to go, at bars. Six packs are thirty bucks. This was 15 years ago. Edited to say: fucking Milwaukee!
  7. Negged because you are full of shit. ”Federal Public Benefits Generally Denied to “Not Qualified” Immigrants. With some important exceptions detailed below, the law prohibits not-qualified immigrants from enrolling in most “federal public benefit programs.” Federal public benefits include a variety of safety-net services paid for by federal funds” https://www.nilc.org/issues/economic-support/overview-immeligfedprograms/#:~:text=Federal Public Benefits Generally Denied, paid for by federal funds. I believe that God given rights are not dependent upon borders. But, I agree that actual life rafts can be tippy.
  8. CR is the board where definitive declarations must be supported by reputable reporting, or opinion clearly identified as such. It is where reputable reporting is challenged, with substantive criticism. Folks wanting to post unsupported talking points are met with negative consequences. Folks who claim otherwise are misinformed. IMO, the real beef with CR is that the above structure is not hospitable to R narratives. And that is unacceptable to Surly posters who don’t want the R narrative exposed, who don’t want the D narrative posted, who can’t ignore the board, who refuse to use the ignore function, and who cannot scroll past posts they prefer not to read.
  9. Say a prayer or two. If they only knew.
  10. Edited to ask, and see if you’ll answer: Was the Presidential election of 2020 stolen?
  11. Crowdsourced, you traitorous fuck.
  12. Executing those who attempt coups is normal, you nutcase.
  13. I negged all your posts. The CR is the only forum on Surly where you are allowed to speak your mind, and be judged on the truth of your beliefs, and not judged for the forum in which you have expressed your beliefs. Focus on how to make bank sucking ass. It is one of your skills. You ought know more about the subject about which you opine. Factual disagreement is the standard in CR.
  14. Quoted from the game thread. Elko said aggy need more diversity in several areas, one of which was diversity of thought. Claims that Elko knows aggy do not check out.
  15. My eldest’s high school years were scarred by the loss of a couple of good friends, who had to move to be with family who were US citizens. Parents deported after decades in the US, Productive, successful people. Receipts, motherfucker. Here’s what I learned, with little effort: ”Experts say the renewed growth coincides with a gradual reboot of legal immigration, like processing visas and vetting refugees, which had all ground to a halt during COVID.” https://www.npr.org/2023/09/14/1199417599/immigrant-population-us-foreign-born-census-bureau#:~:text=The immigrant population in the U.S. is growing again Census, gradual reboot of legal immigration.
  16. Made me think of Rosey Grier. Also thought of a women I once dated who was a weaver. But she was warped, so I weft. Congratulations on the addition to your family. Merry, happy to y’all.
  17. Thanks! I guess I’ll start a stopwatch, discover how long it takes to burn, and scale back a few minutes. For next time. Edited to say: it won’t burn? Hmmm
  18. I am curious about the color of the finished product.
  19. You don’t? Both my brothers have tinnitus. Older one due to playing music. Younger one as a side effect of the shingles vaccine. What about narcotics? Asking for a relative.
  20. Csb/ The Spanish built acequias in the mountains of NM, and they are still overseen by mayorodomos. While visiting friends in Abiquiu, I helped dam the acequia at the start of our friend’s allotted irrigation time, and watched the water flow over an alfalfa field that once belonged to Georgia O’Keeffe, before it watered our friend’s garden. That, too, was cool.
  21. TIL neoliberals support austerity measures.
  22. Thanks for clarifying. I was mistaken.
  23. I fear this thread as I already spend too much time on this site. I chose this thread because I made steamed Chinese buns, to make gau-bao sammiches, to use the pork belly I made too much of, in order to have pork belly to make an OG ramen which my daughters say they love. I have already put thirty hours into the broth. What I learned is that after a 7-ish minute rolling boil on the bones and meat of the stock, you can pour everything into a strainer, wash the animal parts, and start over, which eliminates the need to skim the stuff that rises to the top whoever I make a broth the Euro-centric way. Maybe this is common news on this thread. If so, apologies.
  24. Seems like clarifying an Amendment is something for which they have standing, so to speak. Can we now drop they idea the court has not helped Trump? Inaction is a choice. It is something that is done. A decision made.
