  1. I saw that. The board harped on the checkdowns/short passing game quite a bit during the season. It’s also a counter to “make all the throws” because at some point the defense will gameplan and react to what you’re doing rather than what you theoretically can do. With respect to Quinn and checking down, it is possible he was doing as instructed even if he was a bit quick in doing so. It may be a reach but with the expanded schedule Sark was conscious of not extending his defense too much. So did that make him more conservative in looking to extend drives over quick strikes?
  2. His numbers and PFF grading were somewhat mediocre. Syracuse had quite a few injuries upfront too. He was better at the run game than rushing the passer. Obviously, the surrounding parts are much greater here so he’ll be able to play to his strengths and with rotational parts he can play his ass off every play. I would contrast him to January as to your point. Flip their teams and January could have been frosh all American and Watson sitting behind 4 incredibly experienced guys. This is the advantage Sark has built with the depth. A guy like Watson can drop his snap count from 75% to 45% (whatever those numbers are) to stay fresh but also he’ll get to be more situationally suited for success because he’s not the only guy.
  3. This thread has taken an odd twist. But it’s entertaining. I almost hope it lives forever. And I think Quinn represents what many fans and even experts struggle with when it comes to sports. It may also be Sarks limiting factor to get over the hump. I believe Sark was still on the mantra of “he can make all the throws” when the draft happened. That ASU throw on 4th and 13 was a great counter to that. The throw itself was far from great but the result was great. Any college QB can make that throw in practice. It was the presnap work that made the play. And it was catchable, which is all that was needed in that moment. We are at a point in which we need to make best use of our resources. We don’t need all the throws. Just get those resources opportunities. The consistency of that effort makes it work.
  4. It’s a bit of an odd feeling for me. I’m not paying attention to the hype but can’t imagine losing 3 and/or not making the playoffs. Perhaps the hype is internally created. The last two years I’ve paid less attention to recruiting than I have in 30+ years. But I’m all in on us winning it all. Now, what I do take as true, based on reports is how hard this team works. There’s no way for me to confirm that. And, yeah, that will result in us beating the crap out of multiple teams. The UTEPs and the SHSUs will be a slight step in excitement from a spring game.
  5. I found some humor there. It still is open for Ewers. The accuracy wasn’t good, but the bigger part may be the coaches view of his decision-making.
  6. Yet Wingo had 2 TDs, Livingstone several longer receptions, Wisner had some good runs, the TEs caught some balls and looked like the best group. Baxter was somehow getting a goalline carry. McC had a TD but presumably from Caldwell. Goosby didn’t play much but neither did some other guys. RT is banged up. So I was told. Now if the first team O had 2/3 TDs presumably in what a half of football. Maybe more than that but I’d think not 11 or 12 possessions like a full game. Familiarity works to the Ds advantage. Maybe that’s not terrible.
  7. Undefeated is unlikely due to the number of games. But playoff elimination starts at 3 SEC losses. Two SEC losses and a loss at OSU might do it. We will likely be a top, if not top, 3 loss team in playoff consideration. Alabama, UGa have new QBs. As do OSU, Oregon. Some of those are rebuilding their Olines. While we may having 4 new starters, our 3 potential interior guys have worked for 4 years with each other.
  8. What else would you call NOT going 26-31 w/4 TDs and 300+ yards?
  9. No ill will intended. I was leaving it open for me to be wrong because I’d thought differently for some time.
  10. This I find funny. This too, but you get a lot of ass kissing on here so I’m hesitant to give you a 🤘. It’s 97% of the football talk that I am not fan of. Not really, maybe 20%, people are full of shit.
  11. They do. Cause they’re talented and good. Sarks offense and the 11 he puts out are solid enough to allow those skills to shine. After the 8 games in the SEC regular season, the University of Texas had the highest yards per carry of any SEC team. It dropped to 3rd after adding the 9th game. Also keep in mind, our QB was a net negative on that YPC whereas to name a few - Jackson Arnold, Milroe, Pavia, Dart, Nico - other teams QBs were at least positive on the season. Individually Wisner was #3 in conference games at YPC. Sometimes we struggle with the rare concept that a player is equally as good at run blocking as they are pass blocking. I can’t imagine you find that many do pick your preference. And that displacing a good to great DT is simply not a frequent occurrence. When you play a UGA or an OSU or a Texas, you simply aren’t going to over power them on the interior too often. And when you get in the red zone and are playing 9 on 11, it makes that run a bit more difficult. We may be better at running on the interior, but the truth is Hutson has played enough and has yet to show he’s a better player. As for going under C, maybe that’s the reason. Could be the preference of the QB. Who knows.
  12. League rules permit the Broncos and other teams to dress an emergency third quarterback on game days and not have them count towards the active roster. Saw this referenced in an article about Sam. Not sure if that means the active roster + plus 1 QB each week but assume so. —————————————— So they have to be on the 53 man roster but can suit out as the 49th player of the 48 active player roster as long as 1 and QBs are active. https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-emergency-third-quarterback-rule-questions-and-answers
  13. He needs to quit making Theo Wease look good.
  14. I cramped up at lunch. At the table. For no apparent reason.
  15. For my personal tastes, I think Mitchell was a bit overrated but Whitt a little underrated. Also a big Worthy fan. But net, there is a decrease to ‘24. Frosh Baxter was pretty much just a guy. Brooks started slow and didn’t finish. He had a great middle of the season. Blue as a pass catcher is somewhat of a unique talent. In theory the Oline improved from ‘23 to ‘24. I do believe the 2023 defenses versus the 2024 defenses we faced were easier to attack. It’s the flip side when we look at our defense. Their job game-by-game was easier in ‘24. I would say it’s rational to believe Ewers work was more difficult in ‘24 than ‘23. No doubt about this. On individual plays, it’s hard to see at times particularly in live action. The non-fan favorites get the blame sometimes. We might even have one in the secondary now that got blamed for others missteps in the past. Now, you’re playing the game.
  16. I’ll clarify that statement. In the past 3 years with Quinn as the starter, his replacements when called upon to start have replicated his win percentage. Two of those three (not including Manning of course) could not do that at their other programs even with the additional maturity. And , if I’m not mistaken, the one loss was a game on the road, in which our best player fumbled the ball in OT. A game in which we scored as many points as any loss in the past 3 years. Its time to move on from the occasional bitching on the baseball board back to the football board. Tom Herman was the inspiration.
  17. This is the kinda stuff that gets me fired up. It also confuses me a bit. I am for defending a guy as I’ve done many a time here. But it’s not often at the expense of others. Sam and Beuchele both got NFL roster time. I critiqued Casey Thompsons near 400 yard, 5 TD performance versus OU. Last I recall he had 3 of the top 10 single game TD pass games. Card led some end of game go ahead or game tying drives only to have others falter. M. Murphy was 3-0 in games he finished. A few of these guys were under the tutelage of Tom Herman’s choosing. In substitution of Ewers the past 3 years, those guys replicated the win percentage. Those guys also went elsewhere and didn’t replicate their numbers or win percentages. It’s almost like all the variables matter. If you want to imagine these other QBs, you need to imagine them with a stable offensive system with the same coaching staff with first round pass catchers and highly draftable secondary receivers, a more mature offensive line and a top 10 defense every damn year. I mean I’d kinda prefer a Jake Majors in his 4th year in the system versus Jake Majors in his 1st year in the system. Or a Christian Jones in his 2nd year at RT (3rd year in system) versus year 1 at LT (1st year in system). But that’s hard to do cause if you were 125 years old, you’ve only seen that shit the last two years at the University of Texas. Now with respect to Ewers today, he’s got his NFL prospects all in front of him. I believe Sark and crew prepared him better than most QBs are prepared. He can succeed. I’ve commented on two throws with him on the Dolphins - one was likely piss poor DB play whereas the other was one that is really limited company as far as the number of QBs can do that. Much of QBing is being in the right place at the right time. Ewers was. None of the others were. The environment and surrounding pieces were so different it’s not even comparable.
  18. Between us and then looking at our collective opponents versus us, you have to go back to 2018 when we lost 5 of 16 fumbles at 31% for worse than the 34% we recovered last year. So probably a reasonable assumption that we weren’t lucky in that department last year.
  19. https://texaslonghorns.com/sports/football/stats/2024 We had 26 fumbles, lost 12. Our opponents had 24 and lost 9. 2023, we fumbled 19 times to our opponents 14. Back to 2022, we only had 9 fumbles and our opponents 11.
  20. That’s a Quinn can make all the throws throw. It traveled 60 ish yards.
  21. To further strengthen your point, Vai was an RB from what I recall.
  22. In the past I’d agree wholeheartedly. At this point, I am less sure of that. Damn. What’s wrong with me.
  23. If it eases your mind, Lole had more snaps versus ASU and OSU than Collins or Broughton. That was not the case versus Clemson and UGA2. So the rotation may be matchups and gameflow. But yeah, how do we know that now? Maybe we’re just generating discussion.
