  1. In the SEC, there were 10 teams with a .500 conference record. We played 3 of those 10. Only one of those was .500. We played them with their 3rd string QB, 3 missing DBs, their best WR. We also played the team with the next worst overall record. We lost at home to the best team on our schedule. So, yes, we were fortunate to have a weak conference schedule. As for OU, relative to our team those are far and away the worst OU teams in my lifetime. They quit at halftime in 2022. They went to the backup QB in 2024 then benched him. But it wasn’t all his fault since their top 5 WRs were out and the Oline was in shambles. As for OSU, Alan Bowman has been around a long time. They did win 10 but also lost by 26 to South Alabama, lost by 42 to UCF, and beat BYU in OT. They returned their QB, top RB, and top WR and went 0-9 the following year. They were not a very talented team. They were the crappiest Big 12 championship representative in memory.
  2. Cam Ward was graded #1 in the intermediate range. Dart and Sanders also were top 5. Right or wrong, last year those first round picks were all top 12 in that grading system.
  3. FYI, Ewers was 94th in the country in adjusted completion percentage in 2024 in the intermediate range. His overall grading in that range was 67th. In the short range, he was 29th in adjusted completion percentage and the 70th rated. He was tied 74th in percentage of dropbacks for balls thrown in the intermediate range. In 2022, he was 108th in grading and adjusted completed percentage in the intermediate range. 24th graded, 86th in adj completion percentage in the short range. In 2023, he was #4 graded. 16th in adjusted completion percentage in the intermediate range. 109 graded and 81 adj completion percentage in the short range. If one wants to question the data, fine. But there is data. And the data here says that Ewers efforts do not reflect that he’s elite in either the short or intermediate areas.
  4. You don’t know what you’re looking at. For the record, I like that dude and bring a presence here. He does occasionally tick me off.
  5. Bijan, Roschon, Brooks already all here. Worthy, Whittington, Sanders, Helm already all here. Jones, Majors, Conner all already here. Sweat, Murphy, Broughton, Collins all already here. Ford, Gbenda already here. Barron, Taafe already here. Sorrell already here. Guilbeau committed prior to Ewers announcement best I can tell. I’m guessing the local guys had an impact on Mukuba. Maybe the Ol was impacted by his commitment. Also impacted by Cristobal movement. And NIL. And paths to playing time. PK has his own track record. Sark has his own track record. Under the table payments limited matters. NiL is huge. Yeah, I’m going oversell on the impact of 1 dude on the recruiting front.
  6. We lost a game in which we scored 40+ points. Twice. We won 9 games this year in which the opponent scored 14 or less. The defense went from ranked in the 40s in 2021 to top 10 in 2022. And top 10 in 2023. And top 5 in 2024. Over that time, the offense leapt in OFEI from 35th (2021) to 18th (2024). The defense went from 47th (2021) to 3rd (2024). From 2021 to 2024, the OFEI is 35th, 17th, 19th, and 18th. I would ordinarily assume that someone would agree that year 1 is a transition year that you’d expect improvement in year 2. The defenses rankings probably track the talent levels reasonably well. The offenses not so much. And as for thatguy it’s odd that Patrick Mahomes won all those collegiate championships. And Super Bowl QB Brock Purdy finished what 7-6 in 2021 his senior year yet was enough to make those NFL runs. QB is likely the single most important position on the field. It’s also the one that is most reliant on everyone else. If your first conclusion is that the Qb was the primary reason for the turnaround, you’re wrong.
  7. This is the dumbshit that gets me fired up. No matter who we’ve played the record without him starting the past 3 years is similar on a percentage basis to those he’s missed. There are metrics that say our defense is better, relative to the opponent, than the offense all 3 of his years. Back to back first overall RBs taken in the draft two years year. One of the most highly decorated, likely highest drafted, olinemen in school history. The fastest WR duo in NFL combine history. Statistically speaking, one of those dudes had his best year prior to Ewers arrival. Likely TEs drafted in back to back years. I’m not sure that’s happened at Texas. I didn’t even mention Roschon. I didn’t mention Whittington. I didn’t even mention individuals from the defense. A number of guys that bridged the gap between the prior regime to this one. That made a shit ton of plays. But sure the guy who seemingly admitted to maybe not fully preparing his body and his mind in his first year here is the unquestioned savior for the program. I suggest you wear your hard hat when wandering outdoors again. And truly hope the damage is not irreparable.
  8. Just out of curiosity, do y’all include the TEs when considering “Oline play?” Obviously, they are related. I view them separately.
  9. Obviously, you started telling me I don’t know what I’m seeing. Then you say get creative with designed QB runs. Guess I don’t understand why you then say the lack of QB run game has no impact on our rushing performance. Im not asking for Milroe. I’m asking to keep the defense honest with a few first down conversions, maybe a TD from the 1 on 2nd and goal. Give those back side defenders reason to pause. How dumb of me. Let’s now discuss how you say you don’t need to dominate your opponent just outrush them then the next post talk about how we had games we didn’t dominate. So which is it - we need to dominate or not? So you use Arkansas as your example. Our rushing performance is - 41 for 139 at 3.4. I’d say that is serviceable or at least met one of your qualifiers in that we outdid the Pigs. But also disappointing to this fan/me. So Ole Miss was 42-132 at 3.1 per carry. Take out the QB and you get 32-87 at 2.72. I am not arguing whether they defensed us differently. I do not know. But I would say they were choosing poorly versus Ole Miss if they conceded pass over run cause one was not like the other. I’ll also say the QB running positively impacted their run game numbers. I’m guessing they got “creative” and had some designed QB runs. If nothing else, it made their less than dominant run game a little better. One extra blocker on occasion may do that. At some point you said we had a G-C problem to which I said many others must have that too and provided you numbers in their sorry games. It included all the top SEC teams and playoff teams. I do believe Sark favors pass protection over run blocking. Which is Banks? Same for Majors and Conner. Oh and by the way former Longhorn Andrej Karic was the highest graded run blocker for Tennessee, which may support that point since we let him walk. Sure, I’d love to run right over everyone but don’t think that’s the era we live in. I prefer doing whatever it takes to win over balance. If that means throwing it 50 times or running 50 times, fine with me. Tennessee was 9th in the country in rushing yards per game. If you want to be them because their run game was more consistent, have at it. I have no interest in being them.
  10. Looking at the rules, it refers to linemen wearing numbers 50-79 then references “each back wearing a number other than 50-79.” So yeah numbers in the 90s are eligible receivers by rule.
  11. Think he just has to check in as a non Olineman. Agbo wore 80 rather than 67 so he didn’t have to check in. It is curious on the 99 though. Maybe to deceive them into thinking it’s Lole?
  12. You arrogant jackass. It is clear we need to be better, more consistent run game. I’ve never said otherwise. It absolutely matters that the D does not have to account for the QB in our run. It is not the end all, be all however. It has nothing to do with Quinn either. He was capable of being impactful. It was a Sark issue. As to Georgia, they and really us and Ohio State have more talent than anyone in the country. No one for the past 5 years can say they had better guys up front than them. No shit they’re good and will and have won many 1 on 1s. We have whipped the shit out of countless Olines the past 2 years. Ohio State dominated Oregon. Guess they were average on their way to being undefeated prior to that. Again, the point is don’t be surprised when your run game is not good. And again during the SEC regular season, in conference, we were on average the best per run in the conference with no QB run threat. And again, I’m not putting that at the feet of Ewers but Sark. If we’re so shitty, who else is shitty? The Ohio State Safeties were in on 12 tackles in the run game. Ransom and Downs made their tackles at an average depth of 2.3 and 0.7 yards deep. Yeah. No impact. The Oline cannot really account for those guys. And they’re good. Ultimately the play caller is responsible for getting them the hell out of there. Im sorry for whoever shit on you when you were younger.
  13. And Badgers and 3 DBs, right?
  14. So often execution is poor because the call is awful. In that situation we have 9 guys to block 11. They are claiming they anticipated the call, but even if not, the S was walked down to the play side. There is little chance of success execution when the defense has numbers and knows the play. Every play created will work if executed perfectly. Yet we see so many failed plays. Odd.
  15. I wouldn’t bring a WR to that side. You can have Juan drag across. But really the QB should be enough. At a minimum he ought to be able to get at or near the LOS.
  16. Surely Tomlin is the longest tenured coach to have never drafted a QB that’s won a playoff game. Ben won em all right?
  17. Could be. I’ve largely stopped pying attention to recruiting so couldn’t weigh in on that.
  18. At face value, it does seem they prioritize pass protection. It is too difficult to master all things so he picks what he can live with most. Hard to get maximum skill on pass protection, movement/positioning on zone then power in short yardage all at the same time.
  19. I understand that, but there numerous examples that say those numbers are not a given. Just take Oregon versus OSU as an example. And in Tuscaloosa they were having to defend the entire field. The threat of QB run changes the numbers. Howard didn’t need 18 yards. He only needed 2. Would we have taken those 2? QE easily gets that 2, but I’m not sure we ask him to do so. That’s a Sark issue.
  20. Pretty big screw up Williams. Blue should be in the game. That angle route is going to be a tough cover in that alignment. I’d for sure like the 2 WR-side over the Helm-Wisner side.
  21. I just gave you stats showing you games of run production from the very best teams in the Sec and the country. You take OSUs two longest runs out versus us, and they had 22 carries for 40 yards, obviously some sacks in there. One of those was designed QB run. You say we have a C-LG problem. If we have that problem. The stats above say everyone may have that same problem. Do you know who was Tennessees best rated run blocker? The answer should make you wonder. From my seat, our biggest issue in blocking is the TE. That goes back to 2021. There are not many Rob Gronkowskis or George Kittles though so I’m not sure how you marry the pass catching threat with the dominant blocker at that position. I’m literal though so when someone says Oline, I’m think T to T. Now the Oline cannot account for the S. I don’t care if they’re in the “box” or not. Good S play downhill. Good DL play allows LBs to roam freely. If the DL can stuff some plays, then your run game struggles with all those elements present. You are not whipping Georgia or Ohio State here. At least not if they show up to play. This board, and I’d assume pretty much all fan boards, is relatively terrible at understanding what is the norm or expected in the football market place. There’s no team out there that’s had a dominant run game each time out. So expecting us to be different is off base. Hoping we’re different is ok in my opinion but don’t shit yourself when it doesn’t happen. The OU, Clemson and A&M games we were quite good against above average to very good defenses. Sark needs to evaluate himself. The QB run game needs to be incorporated. So when you’re 2nd and goal at the 1 and your opponent is playing hard run to your left, the QB keeps it and is 1 v 1 running right. If that defender takes one hard step to his right, he’s likely toast. People harp on our long ball, but our problem was the intermediate range. We attacked it too infrequently and were unsuccessful too often when we did. The numbers support this. That area keeps defenses honest. It’ll cause S hesitation. It’ll cause LBs to be more aware and likely less aggressive in the run game. It creates first down and missed tackles mean bigger plays. Last year, this was our best part of our offense. What happened? I have a theory or two, but this board isn’t really interested in ideas that don’t fit their narrative or preconceived notions.
  22. The Steelers have neglected the Oline for too long. A little bit of injury there. A little bit of draft misses. And a bit of not drafting that need. Hayward is long in the tooth. Watt has likely passed to the back half of his career. Tomlins mismanagement of his OC and Oline may have caused mismanagement of his QB. Then when it’s crunch time the pass rush tends to struggle and the pass D falters. Giving up 28 points is a good defensive performance in the playoffs of late. They rushed 11 times for 29 yards and gave up a record 299 rushing. Tomlin needs to go.
  23. Yes on 2021 Ol. They were pretty solid in the run game. Angilau getting hurt in 2022 was big. It threw that LG spot into chaos.
  24. A few numbers. Texas Longhorns were 1st in the SEC in yards per carry in conference games. 4.63. UND had 23 carries for 64 yards versus UGA when taking out Leonard. Uga had 29-62, net of sacks. UND 42-116 versus PSU. Ole Miss had 28 for 84 minus Dart versus UGA. Uga 33-59 against Old Miss. Ole Miss 32-85 minus Dart versus Arkansas. Ole Miss 31-69 versus OU. Ole Miss 21-70 minus Dart versus UF. UGA 30-102 versus UK. 31-106 versus Tenn. 26-108 vs GT. 26-80 vs Bama. Ole Miss, ND previously referenced. Tenn averaged 4.8 versus Arkansas and lost. They averaged 3.3 bersus UF and won. 2.9 versus OU and won. Bama averaged 2.2, 2.3 in their losses to UM, Tenn and OU. Oregon -0.8 versus OSU. Several SEC teams YPC are increased by their QBs. Potential positive impact due to extra blockers. Also, there’s a number of poor performances from top teams. I’d guess the consensus is that all teams represented here have better power backs. So better backs, better Olines, better running Qb doesn’t equate to the conclusion drawn on this thread.
  25. I can appreciate some good, honest diplomacy. I play favorites but generally lean towards not running players down. And I too like John Wayne.
