  1. For my personal tastes, I think Mitchell was a bit overrated but Whitt a little underrated. Also a big Worthy fan. But net, there is a decrease to ‘24. Frosh Baxter was pretty much just a guy. Brooks started slow and didn’t finish. He had a great middle of the season. Blue as a pass catcher is somewhat of a unique talent. In theory the Oline improved from ‘23 to ‘24. I do believe the 2023 defenses versus the 2024 defenses we faced were easier to attack. It’s the flip side when we look at our defense. Their job game-by-game was easier in ‘24. I would say it’s rational to believe Ewers work was more difficult in ‘24 than ‘23. No doubt about this. On individual plays, it’s hard to see at times particularly in live action. The non-fan favorites get the blame sometimes. We might even have one in the secondary now that got blamed for others missteps in the past. Now, you’re playing the game.
  2. I’ll clarify that statement. In the past 3 years with Quinn as the starter, his replacements when called upon to start have replicated his win percentage. Two of those three (not including Manning of course) could not do that at their other programs even with the additional maturity. And , if I’m not mistaken, the one loss was a game on the road, in which our best player fumbled the ball in OT. A game in which we scored as many points as any loss in the past 3 years. Its time to move on from the occasional bitching on the baseball board back to the football board. Tom Herman was the inspiration.
  3. This is the kinda stuff that gets me fired up. It also confuses me a bit. I am for defending a guy as I’ve done many a time here. But it’s not often at the expense of others. Sam and Beuchele both got NFL roster time. I critiqued Casey Thompsons near 400 yard, 5 TD performance versus OU. Last I recall he had 3 of the top 10 single game TD pass games. Card led some end of game go ahead or game tying drives only to have others falter. M. Murphy was 3-0 in games he finished. A few of these guys were under the tutelage of Tom Herman’s choosing. In substitution of Ewers the past 3 years, those guys replicated the win percentage. Those guys also went elsewhere and didn’t replicate their numbers or win percentages. It’s almost like all the variables matter. If you want to imagine these other QBs, you need to imagine them with a stable offensive system with the same coaching staff with first round pass catchers and highly draftable secondary receivers, a more mature offensive line and a top 10 defense every damn year. I mean I’d kinda prefer a Jake Majors in his 4th year in the system versus Jake Majors in his 1st year in the system. Or a Christian Jones in his 2nd year at RT (3rd year in system) versus year 1 at LT (1st year in system). But that’s hard to do cause if you were 125 years old, you’ve only seen that shit the last two years at the University of Texas. Now with respect to Ewers today, he’s got his NFL prospects all in front of him. I believe Sark and crew prepared him better than most QBs are prepared. He can succeed. I’ve commented on two throws with him on the Dolphins - one was likely piss poor DB play whereas the other was one that is really limited company as far as the number of QBs can do that. Much of QBing is being in the right place at the right time. Ewers was. None of the others were. The environment and surrounding pieces were so different it’s not even comparable.
  4. Between us and then looking at our collective opponents versus us, you have to go back to 2018 when we lost 5 of 16 fumbles at 31% for worse than the 34% we recovered last year. So probably a reasonable assumption that we weren’t lucky in that department last year.
  5. https://texaslonghorns.com/sports/football/stats/2024 We had 26 fumbles, lost 12. Our opponents had 24 and lost 9. 2023, we fumbled 19 times to our opponents 14. Back to 2022, we only had 9 fumbles and our opponents 11.
  6. That’s a Quinn can make all the throws throw. It traveled 60 ish yards.
  7. To further strengthen your point, Vai was an RB from what I recall.
  8. In the past I’d agree wholeheartedly. At this point, I am less sure of that. Damn. What’s wrong with me.
  9. If it eases your mind, Lole had more snaps versus ASU and OSU than Collins or Broughton. That was not the case versus Clemson and UGA2. So the rotation may be matchups and gameflow. But yeah, how do we know that now? Maybe we’re just generating discussion.
  10. It’s kinda like throwing against the Dolphin backup DBs.
  11. That’s an interesting question. But next years commit list has more regulars than this past one did. Without a comparison to other rosters, it seems as though we’ve worked a bit harder on building the pitching side of things.
  12. Hell, I was thinking they were alter egos. So……
  13. Thought it was out there to assist Moore in his next level dreams and show the NFL his versatility, at least one element of putting him at LB. He’s a veteran so he could easily move back. As for Spence, he could easily follow Moore’s path from year 1 to year 2. It may be a move that gets more talk than a noticeable difference to the fans view.
  14. Certainly could be the case. Seems as though we like to try a few things out to see how they might work. We don’t run a ton of 6 DBs and have dropped a S down, including Taaffe, to play man on occasion so it’s not wholly different than that. I can’t imagine that being a consideration for our base defense.
  15. I like this. Soccer reference on a football board. A little piss and vinegar. But, hey, next time just knock it down. Is that too much to ask? I am sure the Cardinals drafted him to simply throw away a 6th round pick. PFF had him graded around 20th in pass pro at G, which would equate to top 10-ish of P4 programs. He graded higher than some of those above him in the run game. Keep in mind, the RG was the worst pass protector on the line so that increased the likelihood that Conners pass pro was critical, particularly in light of the QB. Neto may not be good. He might not even be the guy, but your rationale may be a bit short sighted. Mack was truly amazing in this regard. The anti-Bobby Bowden.
  16. That makes sense regarding the burst given his height. Some time ago, I looked at 200m times and what one could expect as a 400 time. From what I gathered a 22 second 200 would lead to an expected 400 of roughly 48. His 400 is almost exactly double the 200 and that 400 would lead to a 22, which is quite good too. Certainly one of those is either wrong or from a year or two prior. But perhaps not.
  17. Wave upon wave, bro. We could put @jimmyjazz or even @Thatguy out there and they could get to the QB cause they’re worried about the other 10 guys.
  18. The 200 time does not translate to the 400 time. What gives? That sub-48 is quite good. Your number 2 is the key to the overall premise. I’m not sure statistically it’ll be better, but I think the havoc factor could be improved. It’s not just Hill and Simmons but Moore and Burke should be improved. Many a cover guy hit their stride in year 3 - that’s Manny and to an extent Guilbeau. If healthy, Williams is primed for a great year. A previously referenced I’m curious about January. If each DT can just be above average at one aspect of their game, we’ll be just fine there.
  19. We’re unlikely to increase that percentage because our opponents will likely be improved. Our defense was off to a great start last year and Mukuba was a rotational piece until Williams went down. Barron was tremendous and a bit unique in what he brought to the table. You reference turnovers. Mukuba had 1 career pick heading into last year. Two of his last year were deflected balls (one created by Manny). One was a 3rd and 30 with less than a minute to go. He was playing the deep safety. That can be replicated. Williams is quite capable. If we crank up the pressure, we’ll create turnovers. The best QB we played in the regular season was Beck, and he wasn’t necessarily wanted back so that should tell you something.
  20. Bro, you’ve been on the ball here. The Olines are key in allowing the skill guys to do their thing. The conference may regressed with their offensive philosophies a bit too. P. Steele has A&M and UF high on its Oline rankings. They have very good backs with potentially dynamic QBs. Perhaps a bit more unknowns at pass catching. UGA has largely lived with out talenting their opponents the past 5 years. That may be over. Outside of Bama, maybe MSU, , I’m not sure beyond the two previously mentioned there are SEC teams that could present us with issues. It’s not enough to have 1 threat or maybe even two threats to succeed against us. We don’t know who that could be at this time. Theyll need to score at least 20 to compete against us and sometimes that’ll be 30+. That is difficult to imagine with what we have versus what they have. The Gators at home are the biggest threat in my opinion. To our benefit, they should have bigger goals and other teams to gain their focus than to simply circle our game as the end all, be all.
  21. So you’d prefer to include Mateer as he played against all those defenses that he’ll face this year?
  22. Oh Bobby, one implosion game won’t keep us from the playoffs. It could eliminate us in the playoffs though. But we still have the defense as a backstop. A big difference in Sark and Greg Davis is that his short/screen game can be very effective.
  23. Personally, I don’t expect a repeat of the numbers from the defense. We don’t really need that anyway. Part of that is the under appreciated element of the hammered dogshit personnel that we went up against. It’ll be improved - The Ohio State over Michigan. OU certainly can’t be worse. A&M should be improved. UF won’t run out an Ivy League QB. MSU likely won’t run out a QB for his first start. Georgia will be a bit wait and see. Per Phil Steeles experience chart, we get the top 6 in the SEC, which leaves Arkansas and Georgia outside that 6. The draft results tell you one of two things regarding the offensive talent of our opponents, maybe both - it was weak or not draft eligible. There’s a strong likelihood our opponents are far better equipped to create matchups that better suit them as compared to last year. Better Olines, better QBs and probably better skill guys. The hope would be an uptick in our pass rush covers for the back end when it’s off. And don’t take that to mean I’m saying we won’t be damn good on the back end.
  24. The concern for Horns fans should be once we get to the final 8 will we make the critical plays. Oline. We don’t have but 1 returning starter, but Hutson, Goosby and Campbell have starts and reps against high quality opponents. We aren’t relying on guys new to the program either. For a first or second year to guy to log reps, they’ll have to beat out a guy that has been with the program 3 or 4 years. This is how transition should look. And, yes, Arch will likely tone down the aggressive nature of the opposing defense. Sark will need to call a few to gain that respect though. And I’d wager that Wisners experience helps too.
  25. This is the good stuff. The throw was on the money no doubt, but that was questionable corner play. Looks like the LB takes the flat. The safeties don’t drop like cover 2. The corner isn’t doing anything then chops his steps. So, yeah, that looks to be quite sorry play on his part.
