  1. It’s kinda like throwing against the Dolphin backup DBs.
  2. That’s an interesting question. But next years commit list has more regulars than this past one did. Without a comparison to other rosters, it seems as though we’ve worked a bit harder on building the pitching side of things.
  3. Hell, I was thinking they were alter egos. So……
  4. Thought it was out there to assist Moore in his next level dreams and show the NFL his versatility, at least one element of putting him at LB. He’s a veteran so he could easily move back. As for Spence, he could easily follow Moore’s path from year 1 to year 2. It may be a move that gets more talk than a noticeable difference to the fans view.
  5. Certainly could be the case. Seems as though we like to try a few things out to see how they might work. We don’t run a ton of 6 DBs and have dropped a S down, including Taaffe, to play man on occasion so it’s not wholly different than that. I can’t imagine that being a consideration for our base defense.
  6. I like this. Soccer reference on a football board. A little piss and vinegar. But, hey, next time just knock it down. Is that too much to ask? I am sure the Cardinals drafted him to simply throw away a 6th round pick. PFF had him graded around 20th in pass pro at G, which would equate to top 10-ish of P4 programs. He graded higher than some of those above him in the run game. Keep in mind, the RG was the worst pass protector on the line so that increased the likelihood that Conners pass pro was critical, particularly in light of the QB. Neto may not be good. He might not even be the guy, but your rationale may be a bit short sighted. Mack was truly amazing in this regard. The anti-Bobby Bowden.
  7. That makes sense regarding the burst given his height. Some time ago, I looked at 200m times and what one could expect as a 400 time. From what I gathered a 22 second 200 would lead to an expected 400 of roughly 48. His 400 is almost exactly double the 200 and that 400 would lead to a 22, which is quite good too. Certainly one of those is either wrong or from a year or two prior. But perhaps not.
  8. Wave upon wave, bro. We could put @jimmyjazz or even @Thatguy out there and they could get to the QB cause they’re worried about the other 10 guys.
  9. The 200 time does not translate to the 400 time. What gives? That sub-48 is quite good. Your number 2 is the key to the overall premise. I’m not sure statistically it’ll be better, but I think the havoc factor could be improved. It’s not just Hill and Simmons but Moore and Burke should be improved. Many a cover guy hit their stride in year 3 - that’s Manny and to an extent Guilbeau. If healthy, Williams is primed for a great year. A previously referenced I’m curious about January. If each DT can just be above average at one aspect of their game, we’ll be just fine there.
  10. We’re unlikely to increase that percentage because our opponents will likely be improved. Our defense was off to a great start last year and Mukuba was a rotational piece until Williams went down. Barron was tremendous and a bit unique in what he brought to the table. You reference turnovers. Mukuba had 1 career pick heading into last year. Two of his last year were deflected balls (one created by Manny). One was a 3rd and 30 with less than a minute to go. He was playing the deep safety. That can be replicated. Williams is quite capable. If we crank up the pressure, we’ll create turnovers. The best QB we played in the regular season was Beck, and he wasn’t necessarily wanted back so that should tell you something.
  11. Bro, you’ve been on the ball here. The Olines are key in allowing the skill guys to do their thing. The conference may regressed with their offensive philosophies a bit too. P. Steele has A&M and UF high on its Oline rankings. They have very good backs with potentially dynamic QBs. Perhaps a bit more unknowns at pass catching. UGA has largely lived with out talenting their opponents the past 5 years. That may be over. Outside of Bama, maybe MSU, , I’m not sure beyond the two previously mentioned there are SEC teams that could present us with issues. It’s not enough to have 1 threat or maybe even two threats to succeed against us. We don’t know who that could be at this time. Theyll need to score at least 20 to compete against us and sometimes that’ll be 30+. That is difficult to imagine with what we have versus what they have. The Gators at home are the biggest threat in my opinion. To our benefit, they should have bigger goals and other teams to gain their focus than to simply circle our game as the end all, be all.
  12. So you’d prefer to include Mateer as he played against all those defenses that he’ll face this year?
  13. Oh Bobby, one implosion game won’t keep us from the playoffs. It could eliminate us in the playoffs though. But we still have the defense as a backstop. A big difference in Sark and Greg Davis is that his short/screen game can be very effective.
  14. Personally, I don’t expect a repeat of the numbers from the defense. We don’t really need that anyway. Part of that is the under appreciated element of the hammered dogshit personnel that we went up against. It’ll be improved - The Ohio State over Michigan. OU certainly can’t be worse. A&M should be improved. UF won’t run out an Ivy League QB. MSU likely won’t run out a QB for his first start. Georgia will be a bit wait and see. Per Phil Steeles experience chart, we get the top 6 in the SEC, which leaves Arkansas and Georgia outside that 6. The draft results tell you one of two things regarding the offensive talent of our opponents, maybe both - it was weak or not draft eligible. There’s a strong likelihood our opponents are far better equipped to create matchups that better suit them as compared to last year. Better Olines, better QBs and probably better skill guys. The hope would be an uptick in our pass rush covers for the back end when it’s off. And don’t take that to mean I’m saying we won’t be damn good on the back end.
  15. The concern for Horns fans should be once we get to the final 8 will we make the critical plays. Oline. We don’t have but 1 returning starter, but Hutson, Goosby and Campbell have starts and reps against high quality opponents. We aren’t relying on guys new to the program either. For a first or second year to guy to log reps, they’ll have to beat out a guy that has been with the program 3 or 4 years. This is how transition should look. And, yes, Arch will likely tone down the aggressive nature of the opposing defense. Sark will need to call a few to gain that respect though. And I’d wager that Wisners experience helps too.
  16. This is the good stuff. The throw was on the money no doubt, but that was questionable corner play. Looks like the LB takes the flat. The safeties don’t drop like cover 2. The corner isn’t doing anything then chops his steps. So, yeah, that looks to be quite sorry play on his part.
  17. Then why were you asking if we were going to be “good?”
  18. We only boner in Omaha so you’ll have to wait.
  19. We’re pretty much hitting on all cylinders defensively. The one negative is that it’s not ideal to have to hit the portal for DT depth. But in today’s environment it is easier to fill that depth via the portal. I have not observed it directly but most information points to the fact that our guys are being pushed towards their maximum potential. Wins, accolades, presumably money, exposure/NFL opportunities are at an all time here. All those things make it an easy sell for those willing to work and compete.
  20. For 2014 we had a solid core of upperclass defensive players but depth was pretty sparse. That repeated in 2017 to an extent. Gone in 2018 were Poona Ford, DeShon Elliott, Malik Jefferson, Hilton Hill. The 2012 defense had a pretty significant contribution from guys that were factors in 2014. The depth probably had too much reliance on underclass guys then progression until their final years. Then the core guys left, and you start over. Specific to Diaz and Orlando, they aren’t great coaches that can sustain but are capable of bigger years when it hits right.
  21. That was a great pass. It should be fun to watch. I do wonder about Sark a bit. For me, it felt as though Ewers was less caution to the wind last year. Did we harp on the right read/right throw and consequently took fewer risks? Or was that just Ewers? That’s probably a reasonable approach given our stout defense except that our red zone offense was lacking. As others have mentioned, a few more higher risk throws may result in some picks, but there’s upside there too. Certainly the increase in mobility will matter too.
  22. Just for a little speculation, I’d throw that this was a circled game on the schedule given Lebby’s coaching background. In the small sample, you saw several different looks on defense in addition to the offensive gameplan. It’d be interesting to hear some insight on MSUs typical defense. The opponent doesn’t matter when play 1 has the ball caught on a well timed comeback 22 yards downfield. The crosser off the slide up the pocket was one you don’t see often. No flinch on the big TD to Moore. The awareness on the sideline dump to Gibson was great. That TD to the deep left corner is a discussion point. There was a similar play versus Georgia. The critics didn’t like throwing into double coverage. You can have the similar discussion here on the throw to #81. But none were close to being picks. The Georgia play was a big one if the ball is target. There’s an argument to be made that Arch knew exactly the risks for the decisions he made on those plays as opposed to his inexperience leading to a poor decision.
  23. I’m not sure that data is available, but I do not have it either way. Pff shows 3 batted balls versus OSU then 1 each against multiple teams including both Georgia games. I am not sure how they logged the Kentucky pick/fumble 6, but KY game reflected 1 batted ball. The Vandy one I’m guessing was deemed too deep in the backfield so it wasn’t logged. The A&M one. That was ugly. So there were some big ones. You might even say memorable.
  24. I want to dedicate this post to @Thatguy. In sheer number of balls batted at or near the LOS, PFF has Ewers tied with Shadeur Sanders and others at 8. That’s tied for 27th with 15 guys. Quick calculation shows that on a per pass basis Ewers is at 41st and Shedeur 42nd of those 42. I’d wager neither would be in the top 50 on a per pass basis. Dart, Gabriel, McCord all had more passes batted, all at a higher clip. Given our higher propensity for screens and the short game, It is below 2%. Drew Allan and Michael Hawkins had 0, if that moves the needed on wanting them. C Weigman and Alan Bowman are quite good too. There are somewhere in the vicinity of 25 guys that cut Ewers batted balls in half.
  25. I don’t think Flores was a late window guy. Rerick flipped from A&M to Texas, which makes his portal entry a bit surprising. But the unknown variables may be deciding factor. Volantis was the unique one that was more last minute. There are 11 pitchers signed/committed for next years team. 7 position players but that includes Jonah and 2 likely high draftees.
