  2. Brandon Drumm 184 posts 109 minutes ago - I will start with the secret visitor. I will refrain from using the name because there is a chance he still makes it up to Norman, but as of right now the odds of that have dropped significantly because of ride issues. The secret visitor had a ride set up with a trainer. A trainer I won't name, as well, because said trainer is now taking kids to A&M instead. Sadly, that ruins it for the Sooners secret visitor- at this time. Now, all is not lost because OU will still recruit and likely get the secret visitor- who is committed elsewhere- up for a visit at a later date, but the recruits mom is also someone that could make the visit happen if the logistics workout. I'll know more tomorrow evening and update you with one way or the other by mid day on Saturday. I know you Insiders will have your fingers crossed here. - I spoke with 2019 four star Carmichael (CA) Jesuit defensive back, Isaiah Rutherford, today. Rutherford visited Oklahoma back in April, unofficially, for the spring game. At the time Rutherford said the visit was his best one yet. Since then, Rutherford has visited only Alabama, according to his 247 timeline. During our conversation I asked Rutherford what he thinks of Sooners defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks and Oklahoma in general, "Coach Cooks is such a great recruiter and coach. He keeps it real with me and is so relatable. The whole staff at OU is that way." After all of that we got down to the real issue and that was his tweet earlier yesterday stating that there was big news coming soon. Rutherford said he does think he "might" commit in the coming weeks-possibly sometime next week. Rutherford did add that OU is "someone to watch" and stated, "I will be taking a visit to OU during the season, but I haven't set it up just yet." Rutherford went onto say, "I am unsure what officials I will take after I commit, though" when asked about if he will still take visits after his commitment. That got me to ask him further about OU. He stayed consistent in the fact he will visit OU, but as you all know with recruiting things change on a dime. With that in mind, I will have another phone interview set up with Rutherford, tomorrow afternoon, where I will get more in-depth where things stand with him. - Alright, I spoke with even more sources about 2019 Mansfield (TX) Legacy DB, Jeffrey Carter, today. In those conversations I got to really feeling good about where OU stands. It is now my belief that OU is the front runner here, but the BBQ will be where we really see what Carter has in mind. Carter has almost committed to A&M and Alabama over the last year, as well. So, him being high on OU, right now, could be just the flavor of the month type of deal. One source I spoke with doesn't think that is the case,"Scooby has been around OU commits all summer and has a great relationship with a lot of them. Those relationships seem to be paying off for the Sooners, so the idea that Scooby could commit to OU soon is as real as it gets." I'm not saying OU will get a pledge from Scooby this weekend. All I'm saying is that OU has put themselves in a great spot, at one of the biggest recruiting events of the year and if they play their cards right they could end up a part of NewWave19. This is all subject to change- like all things in recruiting. - A source told me that 2020 Colleyville (TX) Heritage TE/ATH commit, Drew Sanders, was at A&M on unofficial yesterday. In my opinion, it's nothing to worry about, but just thought I would report it before you heard elsewhere. Sanders will be at ChampUBBQ and that should really temper his visit to College Station
  3. Perroni VIP notes Texas A&M has 22 commitments in the class of 2019 with very limited space left. Things could start to get interesting with a few players. -Though Texas A&M does not have an official recruiting event this coming weekend, a lot of prospects will be in town anyway. There is a pool party that has been organized by players on the team with a number of commits and targets planning to be there. You can bet that commits such as Bobby Wolfe and Erick Young will be in attendance. Marcus Stripling says he will be either there or at Alabama's barbecue this weekend. With it already being Monday and him not sure of which school, the trip that is much easier to make seems likely for the four-star defensive end from Katy Mayde Creek. Stripling has long said he plans to take all of his official visits and announce on Signing Day, or at least close to Signing Day, but I still do not believe he will wait nearly that long. He has seen a number of his good friends commit to the Aggies and spots are also at a premium. I believe the 6-foot-2.5, 260-pound defender will make a decision before the end of the summer and it would be very surprising if it were not A&M. As for this weekend's event, we will have more on the attendees throughout the week. -Speaking of the Alabama barbecue, there will be an interesting name in attendance in Tuscaloosa. Baton Rouge (La.) U-High linebacker Christian Harris is planning to make the trip. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound four-star prospect was once thought to be a heavy lean to the Tide before a recent unofficial visit to Aggieland. Alabama also did not seemingly have the room. However, with Harris receiving the invite and making the trip, it is an interesting development on both fronts. I still have my Crystal Ball for A&M and I believe he will be an Aggie, but I will definitely be keeping my eye on the situation over the weekend. -Things with Mansfield Legacy four-star cornerback Jeffery Carter are never easy to figure out. Again, I have my Crystal Ball for A&M and he has seemingly been very close to committing for some time, but there is a lot of optimism in the Oklahoma camp with him at the moment. As of now, Carter is expected to be in Norman this weekend for the Sooners' big recruiting event. He was once a very early Oklahoma pledge and the staff looks to have circled back to him. The one consistent throughout Carter's recruitment has been A&M. He has almost committed several times to several programs, but the Aggies have always been in the picture. They are the only ones where that has been the case. However, he is still a wild card and nothing with him would be too surprising. Oklahoma has passed Alabama as the other team that is in contention with A&M for Carter, though, so that situation this weekend will be one to watch as well. -I think it is a bit of a longshot but the current A&M commits have been working on four-star cornerback Devin Bush out of New Orleans Edna Karr quite a bit. The nation's No. 154 overall prospect has said he likes the Aggies, though, so it is a situation at least worth monitoring. Quite a few Crystal Ball predictions have come in for Tennessee as of late for the 6-foot, 190-pound defender and the Vols are definitely in good shape there. -A&M really needs one of the relatively similar players of David Ugwoegbu or Adisa Isaac. My Crystal Ball has long been on A&M for the former. The Katy Seven Lakes defensive end/linebacker is very high on the Aggies but also likes Alabama. However, with him not being on the visitor list for the Tide this coming weekend and not having camped in Tuscaloosa over the summer, there may not be a spot for him there. The 6-foot-4.5, 225-pound hybrid defender has pretty much only been to A&M throughout the process. It would not be too surprising to see the Aggies try and put some pressure on him. -If you are looking for a candidate to be the next commitment in the class of 2020, five-star cornerback Dwight McGlothern is as good a bet as any. McGlothern was in Aggieland over the weekend hanging out with current players. This is much like Stripling a year ago, where he makes it to town seemingly any chance he can get. Formerly at New Caney, the nation's No. 28 overall prospect will suit for Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill this fall.
  4. Perroni VIP notes After taking some much-deserved time off, as did every staff in the country, the A&M coaches are now back in College Station. The dead period ends next Tuesday night at midnight, meaning prospects can take unofficial visits again. However, official visits are not allowed until the beginning of the season. You can bet that A&M will work to get players on campus to check out fall camp. -At running back, four-star Isaiah Spiller of Klein Collins is still the main target. The nation’s No. 2 all-purpose back has said that he wants to announce prior to his senior season, which is different from what he had stated a few months back, and it’s still an A&M/OU battle. Spiller is an A&M legacy and has long been high on the Aggies, even when he was committed to the Sooners at one point. He likes the new staff a lot and has a good rapport with running backs coach Jay Graham. I am still quite confident in my A&M Crystal Ball prediction and I still think it could happen sooner rather than later. He is still my prediction to be the next commit. -At wide receiver, the main target left is Dylan Wright of West Mesquite. The four-star is an in-state battle between A&M and Texas with both schools feeling like they are in good position. Wright has visited Aggieland several times this summer, though, and is very close to the current commitments. There was a lot of talk at The Opening that there is a very good chance that he ends up a part of this class and nothing has really changed on that front. Wright still plans to wait until the Under Armour All-American Game on Jan. 4 to announce, though. It will be interesting to see if he actually signs early and asks whichever school to hold it until his announcement as several prospects across the country did in the 2018 class. This one is going to be a battle until the end, but I like my Crystal Ball prediction of A&M still. One other player to at least keep an eye on is Newton four-star athlete Tamauzia Brown, who wants to play wide receiver at the next level. There is a lot of talk around East Texas that he is quite high on A&M. However, in checking, the numbers likely aren’t there at the moment. -After talking through it, A&M wants another tight end in the class in addition to Baylor Cupp. There is a need as there is a severe lack of depth at the position currently on campus. Trevor Wood is a senior this year and Jace Sternberger a junior. Other than Cupp, that leaves incoming freshman Glenn Beal as the only other scholarship tight end that will be on campus in two years. While A&M wants another player, they are not going to take someone just to have a body. The target is Jalen Wydermyer of Dickinson. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect is high on both A&M and Miami but the Aggies feel like they are in good shape with him. Wydermyer is close with incoming freshman Montel Parker. He wants to take some official visits, especially to Coral Gables, but it would not be a surprise to see some pressure put on him to make a decision. I have a Crystal Ball pick for the Aggies. -Katy Mayde Creek defensive end Marcus Stripling continues to say that he plans to take his visits but I also continue to hear that he is close to officially shutting things down. While it would not completely surprise me to see the 6-foot-3, 265-pound defender take a visit or two, I think this one will be done before the summer is over and I feel very, very good about the Aggies’ chances. -The other player that is the closest to making a commitment is Mansfield Legacy four-star cornerback Jeffery Carter. The Army All-American is ranked as the No. 80 overall prospect in the country and is an A&M/Alabama battle. Carter is a player that could pop at any point and some of the current Aggie pledges almost consider him to be a commitment already. Now, we’ve seen Carter change his mind with favorites numerous times in the past but A&M has been the one constant. I believe he will end up on the commitment list sooner rather than later. -At linebacker, Baton Rouge U-High four-star Christian Harris is one of the Aggies’ top overall remaining targets. He has a final four of A&M, Alabama, Auburn and LSU but A&M is in good shape with him as well. The Harris family really likes defensive coordinator Mike Elko, who coached Christian’s older brother at Wake Forest. The talk in Louisiana is still that it would not be a surprise if he made a decision in the relatively near future. Kevon Glenn and Nick Jackson out of Georgia are still in contact with the Aggies. So is Zach Edwards, who made an expected decommitment from LSU last week. The linebacker position is one that A&M will likely have to take a very close look at the numbers and figure out where to go from there, so it’s hard to predict outside of Harris at this point. I think five-star Nakobe Dean will take an official visit, but I don’t think he will end up an Aggie. Four-star Mohamoud Diabate wants to visit as well. The numbers may not be there with him but, because he is not in a hurry to make a decision, it would not be a surprise to see the Aggies bring him in this fall. -I believe A&M will sign one of Adisa Isaac out of New York or David Ugwoegbu of Katy Seven Lakes at the weakside defensive end spot and I think it will be the first of the two to decide. Isaac is an A&M/Penn State battle at this point while Ugwoegbu is very high on the Aggies, in addition to Alabama and Oklahoma. Both are being recruited to play the hybrid defensive end/linebacker spot and both have similar skill sets. The other player to watch at that position is junior college prospect Kuony Deng. A&M really likes him as well. He’s a December grad that would have two to play two. The Aggies are his biggest offer by far but there should be a lot more suitors once he has some game film. -Like Dean, I expect five-star defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher to take an official visit to A&M but I don’t think he will end up in Aggieland. I believe it will be either Alabama or LSU for him. The same is true with his wide receiver teammate Devonta Lee, who A&M is recruiting as a linebacker. Defensive tackle Jaquaze Sorrells is set to commit just before the season and it will likely be to South Carolina. He says he still plans to officially visit Aggieland even after making his decision, but that may or may not end up happening

  6. VIP notes Here are a few Wednesday-morning recruiting updates. Is commit No. 22 coming soon for the Aggies? Texas A&M's recruiting is on fire after last week's haul of 4-star cornerbacks Bobby Wolfe and Erick Young. The Aggies remain in the No. 2 spot in the 247Sports recruiting composite team rankings. One position Texas A&M is hoping to land a stud is at running back, and Klein Collins 4-star Isaiah Spiller is one of the nation's best. The 4-star talent is ranked the No. 2 all-purpose back, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. The original word was that Spiller was planning on making a decision before the start of his senior season. The buzz now is that Spiller could make a decision as early as the end of this week -- emphasis on "could." If that happens, look for Spiller to choose between Texas A&M and Oklahoma. He's a one-time Oklahoma pledge who reopened his recruitment in April to explore all of his options. Spiller has 21 reported offers. Texas A&M is hoping to bring a legacy home. Spiller is the son of Fred Spiller, who played tight end for the Aggies. New York DE Isaac taking his time One of the big questions with the 2019 class involves Brooklyn, New York, defensive end Adisa Isaac and his interest in the program. The good news: He's interested. The better news: He claims no leaders at this time. Isaac, the top-ranked player from the state of New York and the nation's No. 10 weak-side defensive end per the 247Sports Composite, told 247Sports that Texas A&M, Penn State, Rutgers and Syracuse are among the schools he hears from the most. He said those are schools that intrigue him, but he reiterated that he currently doesn't have one to stand above the others. Isaac has only taken one official visit so far -- to Texas A&M -- and he doesn't have a set timeline for making a verbal commitment. "I want to take some of the visits in the fall that I didn't get to take in the summer," Isaac told 247Sports. "I don't know any of the official visit I will take yet. I want to try to take one in late July, if I can, and then the rest in the fall, probably." 2020 OL wants the '5-star' to block for GigEm247 spoke with 2020 offensive line commit Josh Bankhead earlier this week. While he's excited about the future of the program, he's also hoping to block for the best. When asked if there was one commit he'd love to see committed, North Shore's Zachary Evans was his answer. Evans is the top-ranked running back in the 2020 class and the No. 5 overall player in the 247Sports Composite. Texas A&M is one of the schools to watch in his recruitment, along with Alabama, LSU and Texas. "He's a 5-star. The dude is an animal," Bankhead said. "If you see his film, he'll hurdle one guy and truck the next. Him running behind us ... I couldn't think of a better offense." Bankhead added he and Evans are former select league teammates, so he's hoping to reunite that tandem. Evans was one of the few underclassmen selected to compete at The Opening Finals in Frisco, Texas. He played for Team Impact. "He's not a talker; he's a doer," Bankhead said of Evans. "He's a really big target for A&M, and I'm trying my best to get him to commit without forcing his hand." September visit for QB target Daniels? As 247Sports' Blair Angulo reported, San Bernadino, California, 4-star quarterback Jayden Daniels is interested in getting to College Station for an official visit. While the Aggies have a quarterback committed in 3-star Zach Calzada, Daniels said he's hoping to make it to Texas A&M in September. "I definitely want to get out to Texas A&M to see how it is," Daniels told Angulo. "I know they took a commit, too, but I want to get out there on an official for sure, hopefully early in the season when they play Clemson." Regardless of the quarterback position, you go after a talented player like Daniels. He's nationally ranked the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback, and he's a top-100 player overall, per the 247Sports Composite. At Cajon High School, Daniels threw for 5,139 yards and 62 touchdowns with only five interceptions in 16 games last season. He also rushed for 1,292 yards and 15 touchdowns. Daniels has official visits set to Cal (weekend of Sept. 1) and Utah (Sept. 15). The Texas A&M-Clemson game takes place on Sept. 8. A legitimate alternative for the WR class? Texas A&M appears to be set at wide receiver with 4-star Kam Brown and 3-stars Chase Lane and Kenyon Jackson committed. The Aggies are making a major push to land 4-star Dylan Wright, as well. But what if the Aggies don't get Wright, who has Texas, Alabama and a few others high on his list, as well? One name that has been lost in Aggie recruiting is California 4-star Darren Jones. He's a teammate of Daniels at Cajon; in fact, he was Daniels' favorite target, catching 102 passes for 2,094 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. Let it be known, also, that Jones stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 189 pounds

  10. Perroni Texas A&M has 21 commitments. There is not much more room in the class as, even if the Aggies were to run off half the team, they would still be limited to 28 signees due to the NCAA signing rules. I believe that A&M could end up with quite a few more very soon. I had previously predicted that Mansfield Legacy cornerback Jeffery Carter and Katy Mayde Creek defensive end Marcus Stripling would likely be the next two commits. However, I think another domino could fall before that. Klein Collins running back Isaiah Spiller has said at The Opening Finals that he planned to make a decision prior to his senior season now. There is a lot of buzz with other recruits and around the Houston area that it could be even sooner than that. While Carter could make a decision in the next month or so - and the same with Stripling, though he still says publicly that he wants to wait until signing day - I think Spiller could happen even before Carter. In fact, it might not be very far off at all. It is down to A&M and Oklahoma with the state's top-ranked back and the No. 2 all-purpose back in the country but the Aggies are in good shape with the legacy and there was again a lot of buzz at The Opening that he would end up in Maroon and White. That would be a huge piece to the offensive puzzle for A&M and leave wide receiver Dylan Wright as the primary target on that side of the ball. Though I'm not as certain on this one happening as early, I have heard from a couple people in Louisiana that four-star linebacker target Christian Harris is getting even closer to a commitment and that many people are expecting it to be A&M. It would not be a huge shock if Spiller, Carter, Harris and Stripling were all in the fold by the end of August but I think the first two are the best bets for it to happen. That would leave only a very small number of targets for the coaching staff to all work on over the course of the season. By: Brian Perroni

  13. Brian Perroni 67294 posts 7 hours agoVIP Texas A&M now has 21 commitments in the class, so the remaining spots are at a premium. The Aggies can technically sign 28 with three being able to count back to last year, but there may not be room for that many. Still, it’s a good assumption it will at the very least be close to that. QUARTERBACK A&M has its quarterback in Zach Calzada and he is solid. SoCal QB Jayden Daniels says he is still in contact with the Aggies and he may be too talented to not still recruit, but it is very unlikely to happen. He still looks to be UCLA-bound. RUNNING BACK Four-star Isaiah Spiller is ranked as the state’s top back and is the main Aggie target at the position. It is pretty much an A&M/OU race at this point. He had originally planned to make his decision in or after the season but now wants to get it out of the way before his senior year begins. Spiller has not been on any official visits to this point and has not been on any unofficial trips anywhere this summer. With his dad Fred having playing at A&M, Spiller is a legacy and likes the Aggies a lot. He is close to quite a few of the current commitments and my Crystal Ball is still on A&M. If he goes with the Sooners, though, you could see A&M make a press for Deondrick Glass. Like most highly-ranked prospects from Katy, Glass does not seen in any hurry to decide. He has been to College Station multiple times and A&M has done very well in Katy ISD as of late. WIDE RECEIVER A&M has three commitments at the position in Kam Brown, Chase Lane and Kenyon Jackson. Right now, there is only one other primary target. West Mesquite’s Dylan Wright is basically an A&M/Texas battle at this point. He does not plan to announce until early January at the Under Armour game but the Aggies are in a good spot. He is also very close to several of the current pledges and spent some time with them at The Opening as he was there to watch. After a pair of recent unofficials to A&M, I put in my Crystal Ball pick for the Aggies and I feel pretty good about it at this point. It is by no means a done deal, though. The one other player to watch, should things not be going well with Wright at some point, is TJ Jones out of Florida. He took an official visit this spring and has a lot of interest in A&M. Right now, he looks to be the odd man out, though, with not many spots left. TIGHT END A&M has its top target committed in four-star Baylor Cupp. The Aggies believe they have an incredible playmaker at the position in Cupp and he should play really early. They are still after Jalen Wydermyer from Dickinson as well, though. Wydermyer has legitimate transportation issues and was not able to make it to the Aggie Elite Day as well as one of the summer camp days after originally planning to be there. A&M is still after him, however. He has several offers and schools after him but, at the moment, A&M and Miami would be the top two. He does not plan to decide soon, though, and will use several officials in the fall. OFFENSIVE LINE A&M has three tackles in five-star Kenyon Green and three-stars Adrian Medley and Blake Trainorcommitted. The fourth commit, Layden Robinson, will likely play center but could end up as a guard if they feel they need him more there. The Aggies are still after four-star tackle Javonne Shepherd of Houston North Forest, but Texas has taken the lead there. He plans to take officials but, if spots fill up, I honestly don’t know what the numbers would look like as far as having more room on the offensive line. One other player to keep an eye on is Medley’s teammate, guard Hunter Rayburn. He was very close to committing to A&M when he decided for Clemson recently. However, the door is not completely shut there. Jim Turner is a big fan of both Pensacola linemen so the Aggies very well could decide to make room if Rayburn changes his mind. DEFENSIVE LINE A&M has top 100 prospect DeMarvin Leal committed. Though he weighs 280 pounds already, he is being recruited as a strongside defensive end – the same role as Bobby Brown from last year’s class. At tackle, the Aggies have four-star Josh Ellison in the fold and added Adarious Jones from Virginia over the weekend. They are likely done with pure defensive tackles, though Florida’s Jaquaze Sorrells is still talking about officially visiting. He is planning to commit in late August and it will likely be to South Carolina, but he still may visit Aggieland after. Five-star Ishmael Sopsher plans to take an official visit to A&M as well, but he will likely end up at either Alabama or LSU. Katy Mayde Creek’s Marcus Stripling will likely end up as a three-tech and he worked inside at The Opening, looking more comfortable there each day. He continues to say publicly that he wants to take his visits and wait until signing day to announce, but I still doubt that happens. He is a very heavy Aggie lean and all the commitments as of late have him at least considering joining in sooner rather than later. On the edge, things could get interesting. A&M has four-star Braedon Mowry committed and there is also a chance RJ Orebo grows into that role, though he is still being pegged as a linebacker. A&M will likely add one more and it will probably be one of two plays – David Ugwoegbu of Katy Seven Lakes or Adisa Isaac out of Brooklyn. Ugwoegbu is not a huge fan of the recruiting process and has not taken a ton of visits but he was in Aggieland recently. A&M would be considered the favorite there. However, he does not seem in a hurry to make a pledge. Isaac is an A&M/Penn State battle at this point. He does not have a timeline either. I honestly am not sure at this point which one A&M would take if forced to choose, but they couldn’t go wrong with either one. I believe they will end up with one of the pair. LINEBACKER After Andre White Jr. made one of the more surprising commitments I’ve seen since covering A&M while on a short unofficial, I was skeptical about his pledge sticking. So were quite a few others. However, he made it back to A&M for the Aggie Elite Day and says he is done with the recruiting process. He is someone A&M loves and was a huge steal out of Pennsylvania. In addition to Orebo, the Aggies also have Tarian Lee Jr. out of Florida committed. Lee will likely play the Rover position for the Aggies. There likely is just room for one more pure linebacker and I think it will be Christian Harris out of Baton Rouge. He is a big fan of Mike Elko and things went very well on his visit to the Elite Day. Word out of Louisiana is that a decision could happen not too far off, though again, that is not a certainty. What could be interesting, though, is whether Alabama has room for four-star Kane Patterson from Nashville. He has taken a little longer than expected to decide. Most thought he would choose the Crimson Tide but they could be in a numbers crunch as well. If there is no room there, he could very well be too good for the Aggies to pass up and he is higher on A&M than most had originally thought. If both Harris and Patterson want to come aboard, some decisions would have to be made elsewhere. I should also mention five-star Nakobe Dean out of Mississippi. He has very sincere interest and was in town for the Aggie Elite Day but, as of now, I don’t think he will end up at A&M. But, he is the type of player that there will always be a spot for. Wide receiver Devonta Lee out of Louisiana is also being recruited as a linebacker, but he will likely end up at LSU or Alabama. DEFENSIVE BACK A&M is done at safety with five-star Brian Williamsand four-star Demani Richardson. At corner, the Aggies went from no commits to two four-stars in the past two days with Bobby Wolfe and Erick Young both announcing their decisions. I believe the final spot will go to four-star Jeffery Carter of Mansfield Legacy and I think it could happen in the next month or so. He has been very, very close to committing to A&M in the past but has also been on the verge of committing to Alabama and Oregon as well, as he admitted. However, the Aggies have been the one constant. He spent a ton of time with all four of the Aggie defensive back commits at The Opening and there was a ton of talk about him possibly being the next guy to join the class. A&M is still in contact with Jaydon Hill out of Alabama, but he is unlikely to end up at A&M. And, despite what many posters expect, I believe Marquez Beason will stick with his Illinois pledge.
