  1. Bama kept firing coaches until they got Saban. Didn't seem to matter once they got their guy. Look up the coaching history of any blue blood program and it's usually the same story: 2 or 3 legendary coaches with long tenures, and a bunch of bums who lasted 3-4 years. Maybe Sark suddenly gets it and becomes the guy (unlikely based on history and his performance thus far), but you don't keep him around just for the sake of continuity; no program with expectations does that. If the results are still mediocre after 3-4 years, you try again.
  2. We already went that route and he turned us down. I doubt we'll make another run at him, but it's not because we're above it.
  3. Recruiting has improved largely due to NIL. Ewers and most of last year's O-line haul wouldn't be here if not for NIL. As long as we can (legally) drop bags, we'll get players, regardless of who the coach is. The ability to hire a great staff is far more important.
  4. He failed in the NFL. The vast majority of coaches do. But he was successful at both stops in college and had three 10+ win seasons, which is three more than Sark. Not saying he'd be my first choice, but Saban/Urban/Dabo aren't walking through that door.
  5. According to this site we would owe him $15.7M at the end of this season. If we lose out and Arch decommits I could see it happening. But the Urban ship has sailed. We'd probably go after Rhule.
  6. Ah yes the Sims game.. Looked it up, he actually went to 4 (99 vs Nebraska) So yeah, Mack was way better than Herman.
  7. True, but Mack should've gone to 3 and we were arguably the best team in the country each of those years (definitely in 05, obviously). He also had to share a division with prime Stoops, who owned his ass; despite shitting the bed against OU, I would take those early 00s teams over Herman's CCG team that lost 4 games.
  8. Eh, he had 4 years and managed 1 CCG appearance.. and we couldn't really bring him back after going all out for Urban. It's hard to say what would've happened if he had NIL money to throw around, but my guess is he'd still be good for at least 2-3 WTF losses every year. Not the guy, but yes, probably better than Mr. 7 Win.
  9. Herman's buyout was around $15M, which is roughly what we'll owe Sark after this season. You have to think he'll be gone if we go 5-7 again, right? Right???
  10. If you want to actually win anything of significance, you need both.
  11. He's not walking away from that contract.
  12. How long before they conduct an "internal investigation" and try to fire him for cause?
  13. Re-read the post I was responding to..
  14. Sark was a shiny new object, so he can't be fired. Same with Charlie and Herman. But all that really matters is recruiting. Just ask Jimbo.
  15. Sark was never the shiny new object. He was hired out of left field after we missed on Urban.
  16. So you think Jimbo's gonna turn it around too?
  17. Rhule is out there. Not quite Urban, but he's probably an 8/10 hire and would almost certainly take the job. Wonder how bad things need to get to make the ole switcheroo..
  18. UW use to shut down Leach's offense at WSU. Was it all Jimmy Lake? What's he up to these days?
  19. Charles Haley and Darren Woodson were pretty good though
  20. So if we get elite talent at every level of the defense, it might work?
  21. I felt the same. Hated the hire, and hated it even more up until the last couple weeks. And while I loved every second of 49-0, that OU team is probably worse than any of the shit teams we've fielded over the last 12 years. They're that pitiful. But maybe Sark is the guy. Two weeks ago I would've said no way in hell; now I'd say it's about 50/50. Not a sure thing like some people seem to think after last week, but things appear to be trending upwards. We should know by the end of the season.

    Rhule

I give him credit for turning things around at Temple and Baylor. He's shown he can walk into a complete shitshow and at least make them respectable. But I agree with others in this thread--he's not the sure-fire future Saban/Urban/Dabo that some people make him out to be.
  23. They're aggy. It's a low bar.
  24. Hopefully they add another 10 years to the extension.
