  1. I bet you're right and ESPN needs all the votes they can get in regards to playoff expansion (number of autobids for SEC and getting expansion done before the current contract expires and it goes up for bidding on the open market).. So, seems logical they would talk the SEC schools into a form of alliance with irate 8 / plus 4 new schools...
  2. No joke. I was no fan of Tom H, but am thankful he and his staff left a pretty decent overall team for this staff to work with and build on; unlike Charlie Strong.. There are some good players and decent depth at several positions....The Oline needs a lot of help and hopefully will improve some as the season goes on.. That ULL team they beat was probably as good, if not better than a lot of teams they will face in the Big 12. The future looks good..
  3. They have votes if they choose to align their votes. They could determine how many autobids each conference gets for the playoffs for example...Or, they could determine how many games the playoff expands by, and when it expands. They could choose to have it not expand until the current contracts end so that it goes to the open market to the highest bidder...That's if all these conferences schools choose to align and vote with each other...
  4. I don't get why everyone is so sure ESPN is going to take over college football? They will have a big fight on their hands now with the BIG, ACC, PAC alliance in getting everything they want. If the playoff gets expanded and the games go to the open market for bidding, ESPN is hosed. Someone like Amazon could come in and outbid them for those games...If a player like Amazon figures out they can make a lot of money with targetted ads and marketing during College football games, ESPN is in trouble... ESPN might make 5 dollars off there channels per cable subscription, just think how much Amazon could make off targeted ads and marketing during a playoff college game...
  5. The SEC got what they wanted from the Big 12, and now they will focus on breaking the Alliance, and getting the playoffs expanded before it can go to the open market for bidding... I bet they offer the ACC more money next to get them out of the Alliance and get their votes on playoff expansion... They will also get Texas and OU over to the SEC schedule by next year...
  6. That ain't happening...All of ASU / AU's Alums and Boosters mostly end up in California... All of their recruiting is in Cali...It would be like Oklahoma State going to the PAC alone and isolating themselves from Texas recruiting...
  7. Aggie is so scared that Texas is going to finally get a good coaching staff and rise from it's sleep...They can feel what's coming when both OU and Texas are in the SEC...They know it is just a matter of time now that both of their big brothers will be a big pain in the ass for them...
  8. I like how you are thinking. We could be like the 2010 Bama team with better DB's, and more depth at RB...Possibly a better QB too, but not as good of an Oline..A comparible DLine..
  9. Just saying, nobody ever accused Leach of having receivers that couldn't catch the ball when he was at OU or Tech...He tortured the crap out of them with the Tennis ball shooter...
  10. Time to dust off the tennis ball shooter...Isn't that what Leach uses to train receivers to catch? Hundreds of tennis balls a week at close range...
  11. I hope the Defense is so dang good that the offense is in shock at how easy it is to score against the rest of the Big 12 Defenses...
  12. True, but that's stii the best we got, Whittington who can't stay healthy, Omiere who may be healthy, but may have some mental blocks to get through after a serious injury, and Moore. Worthy is kind of an unknown because he has never taken a snap in college... There is not much depth after that... Just saying i'm surprised they didn't hit the transfer portal for at least one more receiver with some upside. Maybe there wasn't any decent ones in the Portal, or maybe the coaches think they can work with what they got depth wise...
  13. Maybe they didn't view the Oline as being the biggest problem, maybe it's the receivers and depth at receiver and the QB... Out of the best receivers, 1 is banged up, 1 is recovering from a bad knee injury, and the other J Whitt can't stay healthy once the Season starts. We have a freshman who has never taken a college snap, and they moved Schooler to defense. Seems like they should have hit the portal for Receiver help...
  14. I played DB in high school and got decleated and rolled up a few times like that by Olinemen coming around the corner. What's even worse is having the Running Back follow up behind them and knee you in the head when your trying to get up or step on your gut while your already half unconscious...
  15. I'm betting both of them play for the first , maybe second game until one shows he is more of a gamer than the other in real game action. Seems to close for the coaches to make the call...
  16. This is what they need to get back to doing.. There is one or 2 plays that stand out to me from the 2005 team through 2010. Limas Sweed trucking 2 DBs at the same time and laying them out downfield to spring Ramonce Taylor free for a touchdown in the National Championship game against USC. Quan Cosby absolutely laying out Lindey Holmes (sent him flying) against OU to spring Jordan Shipley for a TD... We need receivers with an attitude..
  17. They should have most definitely left back then, but i'm not sure the PAC or Fox was the best option.. One of OU's gripes for leaving was Fox scheduling too many 11 AM games for them and not being flexible..Who knows what timeslots we would have gotten playing PAC teams... I think in the end, for recruiting and financial benefits, the SEC is the best move...I could see Texas (the state) recruiting being locked down now by the SEC which Texas (the school) should hopefully be a major benefactor of with the right coaching staff...It may take a few years after they join the SEC for it to happen, but they should be able to build a wall around Texas and the entire deep South now.... It may not be the best thing for all of college football right now for the SEC to be that powerful, but who knows what moves the other conferences will make in the future to counteract what the SEC did..
  18. ESPN buried Texas 10 to 11 years ago when they got them to agree to the Longhorn Network and broke up the original BIG 12 to let the SEC get a bigger footprint in Texas recruiting.. Texas and OU joining the SEC is just the final outcome of the plan ESPN put in motion back then. You are right, they did not have much choice except to join the SEC or ACC because of ESPN... Texas (powers that be back then) was playing checkers while ESPN was playing chess.
  19. I think the only thing that might stop the PAC from imploding at this point is some kind of PAC / ACC merger...It doesn't make geographical sense at all, but it could help both conferences stay intact... I feel bad for Tech and Okie State, but I don't think they are a cultural fit at all in the PAC. The progressives on the West Coast would definitely try to change some of their traditions. No more "guns up" for Tech for sure..
  20. If this PAC alliance doesn't work out, Tech and Okie State got slim options for the time being. I hope they can raid the AAC before the AAC and other Group of 5 conferences raids the leftovers of the Big 12. Hopefully they are talking with Fox right now on a backup plan like that...They need to make the Big 12 the best of the G5 conferences to stay relevant, and they may have better or more options in the future..
  21. I remember when Caden Stern's nickname was "Baby Earl" before he had all that badassedness coached out of him...I'm guessing the other guys; especially Foster, didn't get developed right either...Or, they just got tired of losing and had no motivation.
  22. A couple of years back, just for shits and giggles, i took a look at some of Clemson's recruiting classes from the previous years thinking man they must be killing it in recruiting with the way they play. I was shocked to find a lot of there recruiting classes composite scores were close to Texas's classes... Our previous coaching staffs have really dropped the ball on talent evaluation and development...I'm excited about this staff because it seems a lot of the coaches have a decent history in developing players... I hope you're right that they can turn some of the 3 star type guys into studs for us and make this team more competitive...Winning makes everything better...
  23. Maybe not sleazy, but we could definitely use another Carrington type closer. Pretty sure we dont land Ossai and a couple other players without him doing his thang. True. Find the guy that can out sale the other 10 guys that are also coming with bags of money for the same recruits...Carrington might be that guy, or might have been a good start until we find "the guy"..
  24. Who's going to catch them? The NCAA? I don't think they are doing much these days...Everyone is throwing money around; especially, since the NIL ruling...What is Texas waiting on? Still trying to follow rules? At this point, they should go out and find the sleaziest salesman they can find, and by sleazy, I mean the best. The guy that can sale ice to Eskimos and make them think they got a great deal. Give him bags of money and turn him loose... Seems like everyone else is doing that...
