  1. If that’s tongue in cheek disregard all this bullshit? HR is nothing more than an apparatus or extension of a company’s law department. The eyes and ears so to speak. Most employees incorrectly believe HR to be their friend, but that is not their job at all. Their job is pretty much to protect the company. Putting out small fires before they become big ones. If you found help in the process of a complaint, good deal. Chances are whatever your issue was, was detrimental to the company. Wage and hour on the other hand enforces wages, record keeping, overtime, David Bacon and The service contract act including the Fair labor standards act. Not to mention FMLA, garnishment of wages, polygraph testing, pretty much everything. And when there is an issue the letter you receive has United States of America vs whoever they are going after on the letterhead. It’s intimidating I don’t care who you are. Can you imagine such a group with oversight over all of college football? Including its athletic directors, chancellors, or board members. All one disgruntled player would have to do is go to their local federal building and file a complaint. And unlike the NCAA (DOL) wage and hour has subpoena power. Discovery would also be a hell of a story should it come into play.
  2. The minute football players are officially recognized as employees and the universities are recognized as employers the sport as we know it dies. I can just imagine wage and hour showing up at the local university.
  3. I notice when you get to disliking people they ain’t around long either Hell is coming to breakfast. Mr chain blue lighting. Fucking movie had so many great lines.
  4. I worked for Garrett Airesearch back in the 70’s. And I remember sitting around pondering the fact that Kelly Johnson and his skunkworks developed the SR-71 in the early 1960’s. Here we are half a century later and that airframe is still the gold standard.

    2023 Heisman

It is simply an award that outlived its usefulness.
  6. I used that green label Weller in place of Irish whiskey to make Irish coffee about a week ago simply because it was the closest bottle to me. Fuck me, I have been slamming them down every night since. I don’t know what it is about that particular sauce, but something really fucking special happens when mixed with strong coffee, heavy cream and brown sugar.
  7. Interesting, I thought it was just me. We have a nice place by the house that makes a great pie. But these days 2 slices and I’m good. I’m an old, but damn I used to be able to put pizza away.
  8. Is this real? I mean, under no circumstances should Vince and that idiot be going head to head on anything.
  9. It’s not that I’m scared of them, it’s that they have a vertical passing game, they can run and play defense well. A team will have to play well to beat them.
  10. The only way he gets in the NFL is by buying a ticket.
  11. Nah, I disagree. I have listened to the “eye test” bullshit for years. Texas would break foot off in the ass of all four teams currently playing. Washington presents a challenge, and we already beat Bama. Fuck that, give us a chance.
  12. All I know is I love our chances to win it all if we get in.
  13. How the fuck do these teams have such good records?
  14. After seeing all the contenders, we’re going to win the whole fucking thing.
  15. Bill Murray in St Vincent. It’s predictable, and nothing particularly special about the script. But, the use of Bob Dylan’s “Shelter from the storm” resonated with me.
  16. I started on Marlboro reds in the 60’s. When I went to Germany to finish school I switched to HB’s (Haus Bergmann). When I got back stateside I picked up Winston’s and finally Marlboro lights. Put them down a long time ago, but if I’m being honest, I always liked to smoke. Especially in the morning with strong coffee.
  17. I always laugh at “the best” lists. Those things are popularity contests. And there is really no way to evaluate a Johnny Winter to Al Di Meola to Steve Stevens based solely on technical efficiency. They ALL are fucking great at what they do. Then you have to throw in your BB King types who refuse to play chords if they can avoid it. Or a Keith Richards who loves to play open G. He is basically only playing five strings. And his riffs are iconic as hell. Now if you start factoring in who could write songs, and who could not, you would get some separation. But even then how do you compare Knopfler to say, Clapton and the previously mentioned Richards when they don’t play anything alike? Yet they all are bad ass
  18. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But, this all worked out in our favor.
  19. Football aside I believe Sark is a hell of a good story that no one in the media believes newsworthy. Which is a fucking shame.
