  1. The Dems have been playing this designated villain technique for years. They got 8 volunteers and covered the rest of their asses. If it wasn't these 8, it would have been 8 others.
  2. We could have had short term pain for long term gain. Instead we get both short term pain and long term pain.
  3. There is an enormous amount of significance to this game. Texas wins and suddenly everything becomes very possible. If we lose are we doomed? No but now we pretty much have to beat A&M to even have a shot. But think of what a win might mean.
  4. Well I can't do anything. None of those Senators come from my state.
  5. The whole season can turn on this one game. If Texas wins it, everything opens up for them. Not optimistic but at least we got this deep in the season with this kind of opportunity.
  6. You are bringing up bad memories of the last time the Democrats had a filibuster proof majority. They just designated villains from their own party to undermine their own legislation. There may not be any way out of this in our current system of corruption. Well I am going back to resigned depression. We had almost a week of cautious optimism to the point I was worried people might start to become complacent. Well...no chance of that now.
  7. It is very possible that once flights started getting disrupted that the money people called in their favors.
  8. Right. So nothing ever gets done. Even when the minority party likes the legislation because it would give the majority party a win and hurt them politically. The filibuster is turning us into an executive autocracy with elections every four years. The legislature cannot do needed things so power and responsibility just accumulates with the President. The Constitution needs the filibuster gone.
  9. Yeah that is what it seems like but...I will wait and see.
  10. The continued existance of the filibuster continues the eroding of our legislative branch. It needs to go like Poland needed to dump the Liberum Veto. I am baffled why these old Senators think it does anything but completely paralyze a vital branch of our government.
  11. Were they promised Republican votes?
  12. Whelp. I guess nothing to do but sit back and see if they manage to save the ACA funding anyway. If they fuck this up they have only themselves to blame. It sure feels like they just surrendered. Ah well. We had almost a week to feel like things were turning around for this party we are all stuck with.
  13. They were terrified that they were winning elections and getting too popular. Can't have that.
  14. Yeah let's have vote when we won't have any leverage and will lose. Brilliant. If they do this we will have suffered for nothing.
  15. Win an election and immediately surrender getting nothing in return. No matter how low my expectations are somehow they disappoint me anyway.
  16. Communism just means to increase taxes on the rich by 2%. I am ready to join the vanguard of this radical extreme revolution comrade if common sense conservatism means letting Elon Musk loot 1 trillion dollars from our economy.
  17. If it was rent, somebody else would fix stuff. Seems worse than renting.
  18. What is the way forward? The same old shit that got us Trump? No thanks.
  19. Interesting to see who San Fran picks in her place. Thank God at least one of these 80 year olds is able to hang it up.
  20. Yeah. I don't see any legal basis for killing somebody for knocking on your door. I cannot imagine that would generate much interest in law school. If that is ambigous then society as we know it is dead. Surely a crime needs to be in the act of being committed before you can "stand your ground"? You can't just have feelings and therefore kill somebody.
  21. Is knocking on a door really unlawful entry? I was not aware there were laws against knocking on doors. So if you knock on a door you are exposing yourself to being legally killed? I am somewhat doubtful that is true even in Texas.
  22. "Indoctrination" is just code for I am tired of losing open debates.
  23. This interview makes me ragey. George Stephanopolous referring to the billionaires who are all going to flee to Florida as "job creators." Yeah ok we created tons of these billionaires and I have yet to see all these great jobs they were supposed to create. Gig work jobs and some job you are going to be laid off from every quarter. And a ton of ghost jobs.
  24. Both the ladies who won in Virginia and New Jersey seemed very unimpressive to me. But granted I am basing that opinion on their victory speeches, they would have been fine speeches 20 years ago but seemed out of touch with the current moment. But maybe they are actually good leaders. I don't know.
