  1. I didn’t read it that way. I think he’s referring to people who almost resent that they were wrong about Sarkisian and might even low-key prefer that he fail so they can come out with the I-told-you-sos. That is, their feelings and egos are more important than Texas’ actual success. But I may be misinterpreting him.
  2. I get the concept, but I struggle to imagine street car Lamborghinis without the aura of cool, trendy, and hype, regardless. Maybe for some company trying to get into the supercar/hypercar market, yeah. Lamborghini is, afaik, already basically a cultural synonym for that market. Maybe it pulls people away from Ferrari or something. Interesting question.
  3. Perhaps this has already been answered, but how do you put the NIL genie back in the bottle even if there are other avenues for payment? The NFL salary cap, for example, doesn’t purport to limit a player’s advertising income, does it?
  4. Letting 18 year olds be draft eligible isn’t going to change anything.
  5. “It’s a dry heat.”
  6. “Pedernales” would like a word.
  7. If all conferences were equally strong, sure. The 7th best conference champion over an 11-1 SEC team is almost certainly going to be nonsensical.
  8. OU doesn’t need to focus on boring stuff like the offensive line. QBs are the lifeblood of a program and they can elevate the entire team. A steady flow of QBs in and out of Norman is the way to achieve the desired outcome.
  9. My pussy doesn’t hurt because I disagree with you. Grow the fuck up.
  10. He’s explicitly denying that it’s pay for play. Yes, as I wrote earlier, it’s a legal structure designed to obscure reality. That doesn’t change what we all know to be the reality. Well, almost all of us.
  11. Their playing on the team is the sine qua non of the deal and any other view is purposefully obtuse. Illegal based on what law? An illegal contract, why, exactly?
  12. You’re begging the question. Why is there no entitlement to lemonade when the deal was predicated on getting lemonade? Look, you can spin it and narrow it and whatever, but they’re getting paid solely because they’re on the team.
  13. How many deals are you signing with people who aren’t “players?”
  14. You absolutely are entitled to the lemonade. It was part of the inducement for buying the cup. It’s like saying you’re not entitled to a free item on a BOGO promotion. It’s literally part of the sales pitch. It absolutely is pay for play. It’s simply structured for deniability. They’re not getting the money because their dazzling personalities are going to bring in customers or attract people to a cause. They’re getting the money because they’re playing.
  15. That’s fair. Thanks. So I guess those surrounding Ole Miss would divvy up their land.
  16. What are the rules behind this map? Say Kentucky beats Ole Miss. Then what?
  17. College football has been a game of whose ringers are better than someone else’s ringers for more than 100 years. It’s only grown more popular.
  18. I understand the argument. Let’s say Texas wins out all the way to the playoff final. UGA loses to Texas and Tennessee but gets in as an at large and wins to make the final. Texas is 15-0 with a win over UGA. UGA is 13-2 with a previous loss to Texas. Play the championship game or not? Or Texas finishes 12-0 and UGA is second in the conference at 11-1. Play the championship game or not? If an unbeaten team is set up to play a team with a loss in the national championship game, just cancel it? Or only cancel it if they’ve already played? There are no perfect solutions.
  19. If I’m promised free lemonade for buying the cup and I buy the cup and don’t get the lemonade, that’s problematic. But I’m not explicitly selling lemonade. I’m not saying this guy is right or wrong or a shithead or not. I’m saying it’s a specious argument to say it isn’t pay for play because it isn’t explicitly structured as such. It very clearly is money being delivered because someone is playing.
  20. You’re the one doing the legal gymnastics. No, it isn’t explicitly pay for play. But it clearly is pay for play. It’s a legal structure purposefully designed to obscure reality. If the health code prevented me from selling lemonade, but I sold cups for $5 and gave away the lemonade for free, I’m not explicitly selling lemonade. But we all know what the reality is.
  21. I can’t even ponder the possibility of his going to ND and beating the Aggies’ asses next season. It’s too much.
  22. Then “playing OU probably isn’t going to help them.” That was one of the two possibilities.
  23. Not hard to figure out who’s on the opponent’s turf. “Before we get started, does anyone want to get out?”
