  1. I should clarify that while The Process succeeded, it is not good for fans nor advisable for a bunch of teams to emulate. The Sixers took advantage of the rules at the time. There were years of unintentional failure which made it more palatable to us, at least Hinkie had a plan and executed it. Ideally the NBA figures out a system to discourage another Process attempt. It's also hilarious that Embiid adopted that as his nickname
  2. That all makes sense, but I do give Bryan credit for some of the moves like Redick, Ilyasova and Belinelli, all of whom really solidified a roster that wasn't very deep until late in the season. Noel just ran out of time contract-wise, and they did get another contributor back in Justin Anderson (who really should have played more last week). Okafor was simply a bust, they probably should have traded down but at the time it looked like he could at least score in the NBA. It happens. The Tatum thing hurts. Before the draft there was a lot of buzz that he was actually the most NBA ready guy out there. He wasn't a perfect system fit, but damn don't hand him along with a No. 1 to your rival who is already loaded.
  3. I declare The Process a success, even if they botch this off-season and don't do much in the 2019 playoffs. They have shown that full-on tanking, combined with disciplined cap management even in the tank years, gives you enough draft bullets and money to make a run at the top of your conference. It's a multi-year thing but it doesn't have to take forever. The most impressive aspects to me were keeping the coaching staff together (and sane), as well as identifying a handful of cheap keepers from the tank years like Covington and TJ McConnell. Also the perfect timing on stashing Saric and bringing him over. There will always be risks, like Embiid's health. And there will always be busts like Jah Okafor. I'm really only mad at the Fultz-Tatum (plus a future #1) trade and that's mainly because it was to our main rival. They thought Fultz would be a key piece which is fine, but even if he worked out better why give the Celtics such a lift as well? How they use their salary room this summer is basically the final move(s) before The Process reaches completion.
  4. Curly you lost 99 percent of posters on this thread with "if you're interested in a different perspective" LOL. Malcolm Gladwell also had a column back when all this broke explaining that Sandusky was clearly an expert groomer like many pedos and as such was much harder to detect from the inside, cult or not (though it helps to operate amongst a cult like PSU). Link is here, "In Plain View" but it's TLDR for anyone who thinks the whole story can be summarized with "Joe knew" and "they covered up child rape". I grew up a PSU fan and still root for them, though as a city guy it's very hard for me to relate to the Central PA community in general. Any state election map makes that obvious. All the Paterno era memories are tarnished and not worth celebrating. The Freeh report was a mess but it did get the process underway of purging PSU athletics and giving the NCAA an in to impose their sanctions (which probably wouldn't hold up in court but they did make an impact on recruiting and thus served their purpose IMO). I agreed with nutcase 55's opening sentence that this thread is lame. But it thrived on our predecessor site, with so much of its oxygen coming from Ohio State and Pitt fans but that's understandable. Also really the perfect thread for something like 55's bizarre invasion.
  5. Brett Brown finally made a dent in Stevens armor with double teaming the dribble handoff all the way back to half court if needed. Celts couldn't just stroll through their sets as usual.
  6. Why wait for offseason, it will be fascinating to see how the Celtics respond in the next series (or two). It's staggering how easy they are dispatching the Sixers, but LeBron and/or Warriors are a far different measuring stick. Really wonder if coaching and effort can keep carrying them.
  7. The mental mistakes in the final 1-2 minutes of both the 4th and OT were just inexcusable. As I said the other day, I guess this is what "It's just the playoffs" means. Whole series is like a well coached 12 seed schooling an undeservedly cocky 5 seed. One of those deals where in hindsight they're obviously better but can't blame Vegas etc for favoring the Sixers at first.
  8. I want Boston to lose all games in all sports all the time...but Pastrnak goal tonight was sweet. Waiting for the pop-up puck to land and smacking it in at the perfect time, with a defender also swatting at it. So many rec leaguers try that every night and whiff
  9. Watching PTI before the Heat series, I was pissed when Wilbon picked Miami for no reason other than "It's the playoffs." But that kinda looks like what's happening so far in this series. Home court does matter. Playoff experience does matter. Little things like Embiid's mask become amplified. An opponent playing over his head (Smart) can disrupt the whole series. Now the Sixers are in totally new territory of having no margin for error.
  10. Pos rep to the entire thread at this point for no Come On Eileen Yes I know someone will quote this and post it...but it's been four pages, five days so that's a win
  11. They have enough good players to be fired up at home, hearing how they have no chance in the series and especially this game without Brown. Rozier hasn't really even needed to do too much.
  12. Seeing why everyone raves about Stevens. They're supposedly offensively challenged but they're finding the weak defender and torching him (Belinelli mostly, sometimes Redick)
  13. It shouldn't even go six, though I'm not ballsy enough to predict less Celts need Embiid in foul trouble and at least a couple guys having horrible shooting nights, all at the same time
  14. That is the assumption. But I think they are open to paying him again on a one-year deal if the big fishes don't work out. Also think he might take less because he wants to stay in the northeast near his Brooklyn home (but the Nets/Knicks aren't realistic options).
  15. Ministry of Silly Walks is first thing to come to mind. Also the pall bearers who get tired so they take turns riding in the coffin
  16. That's all good, like I said no way you turn him away if he wants to come over to Phila. Brett Brown has adjusted his style a couple times already, so yeah he could figure out away to incorporate 23. It's more about wanting to see it be Simmons' team going forward, which would not be the case if LeBron shows up. And there's no way around it, his next team will have to manage LeBron's eventual decline as he gets older.
  17. If you're the Sixers, of course you want LeBron if you can make the money work, which shouldn't be too hard. But it would force a change in "the process" and maybe take the ball out of Simmons' hands which is not ideal. Plus he's gonna be 34 and the way he plays there's gonna be some drop-off soon. I hope he just stays in Cleveland.
  18. I think that's why they never really snapped out of it. Haven't faced adversity in weeks besides Embiid getting hurt. Losing this one might not be so bad, but they need to go down fighting at least
  19. Spotswood. I thought the reference was too dated (Team America World Police). Same avatar. Wish we had sigs under the avatar like before so I could add "Fuck Philly and their fans" which seems to come up in many threads within which I post for some reason
  20. For now, I'll chalk this up to pro athletes having enough pride not to be humiliated every single playoff game. Definitely being more careful with puck possession while maintaining their aggressiveness. Hope it becomes a typical NHL long series
  21. Best milkshake I've had in decades was from their Cincy airport shop a few months ago.
  22. The whole series could turn around if we can limit the Pens to 2 goals per period
  23. I don't even play roulette but that pisses me off
