  1. I think on the last IT podcast with Bobby and Justin that Justin mentioned some issues with Campbell. Like, maturity and attitude problems that were ongoing. I take this as a pretty bad sign - maybe Campbell has already told them he's going to the portal? Maybe he's pissed that he's still competing for reps? Justin was pretty definitive that as soon as Hutson comes back that he is starting at either G or C.
  2. I don't know if he's any better than Ovie - other than sacks, his numbers aren't better. But Burton has said several times that the staff is going to kick the tires on any player in the portal who could get into the rotation at DL or edge. This guy fits the bill, so why wouldn't they take a look?
  3. Good breakdown from when he entered the portal: https://247sports.com/college/florida-state/Article/FSU-football-Florida-State-Seminoles-Derrick-McLendon-defensive-end-transfer-replacement-impact-207450264/ "McLendon was a replacement-level player in the Power Five, recording an average/above average Pro Football Focus grade of 67.0 this past season and 65.3 the previous year. He produced 3.5 sacks in both 2021 and 2022, and has 1,027 career snaps over four seasons His 24 Stops were fourth on the team last year, and he had a career-high 29 pressures (2nd on the team). Overall, McLendon has been a solid player. Not a high-impact one, but still solid."
  4. Dane Brugler from the Athletic released his draft guide, The Beast: https://theathletic.com/4387692/2023/04/10/nfl-draft-mock-the-beast-dane-brugler/ Texas players: Bijan Robinson at #6 on the big board (top 100), RB1. First round grade. Roschon Johnson #91 on the top 100, RB7. 3rd round grade. Moro Ojomo is DT14 with a 4th-5th round grade. Keondre Coburn is DT17 with a 5th-6th round grade. Projected as a solid nose tackle whose ceiling is limited by his lack of length. Demarvion Overshown is LB8 with a 3rd-4th round grade. Projected as a role player as a rushing/dropping LB in certain packages. D'shawn Jamison is CB35 and the top priority free agent. Jahleel Billingsley listed as a priority free agent — evaluation is basically "tons of red flags, but has all the athleticism needed for the NFL." One interesting tidbit in the description is that an NFL scout said he left the team after coming back from his suspension because "he wore out his welcome" at Texas. Anthony Cook, Danny Trejo and Tarique Milton not mentioned.
  5. Mike Leach on the officials in the 2007 Tech-Texas game in Austin: "It's a little like breakfast; you eat ham and eggs. As coaches and players, we're like the ham. You see, the chicken's involved but the pig's committed. We're like the pig, they're like the chicken. They're involved, but everything we have rides on this."
  6. I love that even the other cult members were completely agog at that comment. At least some of them of near-normal levels of self awareness. But holy shit some of the other comments are too ridiculous to be believed. "All we need to do is win 10 games, land a top-10 recruit, and have a top-20 squad on both sides of the ball. Do all that and we're back on track." Brilliant. I don't know why nobody has thought of that before.
  7. One of the best (and most literal) examples of "cheerleader effect" I've ever seen. Brunette front-and-center is doing all the work.
  8. I get what you're saying - Ewers did seem like he was seeing ghosts at time last year. But I don't think that's him being afraid at all. Our pass protection was pretty garbage and he took a lot of shots. In the Baylor game it seemed like he had someone in his face every time he dropped back. Yeah, the grounding-for-a-safety play was stupid, but it was the product of learned behavior after a season of collapsed pockets. When he's kept relatively clean, he doesn't play scared at all. Not saying he's perfect, but "afraid" is the wrong word.
  9. The NCAA would have to change the rules setting out the dates of the playing season and the number of intercollegiate competitions each school is allowed. But there's certainly nothing stopping them from doing that if the ADs and Presidents want them to. If it makes money, why not? And if a particular coach doesn't want to (e.g., because the roster is too thin in spots) - then don't do it. I doubt there would ever be a rule saying that you have to play a spring game. Personally, I'd rather see Texas play an HBCU or similar school that could really use the money and will appreciate the opportunity. Maybe Texas State fits that mold, I just don't know.
  10. All this positivity from usually negative corners has me getting dangerously close to Wulaw territory.
  11. The last name similarities between Jerrick Gibson and Corian Gipson keep throwing me off something terrible.
  12. 8 year deal? Either way, it's bullshit. Guy doesn't even specify who is paying or how much will be streaming vs. linear.
  13. Interesting article about how much each team is spending on recruiting: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2023/04/05/college-football-recruiting-budget-georgia-alabama-tennessee/11605732002/ Here's the top ten: 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 Grand Total Avg. 14. Fair points but over the last 13 years I've noticed that absurd things happen to Texas with unsettling regularity.
  15. Take was so bad it got a non-bullshit response from futureman. Crazy. Like watching a mime break character.
  16. Burton was talking with Cook today and mentioned that he's heard Burke passed Finkley on the depth chart. I'm surprised but pretty happy to hear that. I don't dislike Finkley at all, but he's a high floor / low ceiling guy and if Burke is ahead of him that seems like good news.
  17. Some good snippets from practice. Red tossing Finkley on a run.
  18. I'm pretty new here, but is futureman not an obvious joke? Every post he makes is very clearly intended to draw an eye roll or a chuckle because it's patently bullshit. Like, the humor (if you like that sort of thing) is in how absolutely fucking stupid it is. It's annoying if you don't think it's funny - even then it's just a bad joke, but it is still clearly a joke. I mean, I fully expect him to respond to this post with feigned outrage and hurt feelings, protesting that everything he says is meant in earnest. Because that's what trolls do. Nobody on here actually believes anything he says is meant to be serious, right?
