  1. Daxx Nielsen, one of Rick's sons. Daxx has been the drummer for them for about the last 15 years. He has definitely improved since the last time I saw them about 6 years ago.
  2. Saw Cheap Trick last night. Good show, but they are showing their age.
  3. $190 would have been reasonable for that bottle, but at $191 it's overpriced. Live and learn.
  4. Not sure where to put this, so I'll put it here. Thought this was an interesting article on the "kangaroo courts" Frank Robinson and Don Baylor used to run. In today's game, I think they still exist but not to the extent they once did. https://tht.fangraphs.com/the-kangaroo-court-and-frank-robinson/
  5. Surly never disappoints
  6. Bumpity bump simply because it appears the wife and I will be going there for about a week in September, so I'm looking for recs in all regards (sites, hotels, eats, what to avoid, etc.). I've been there once before as a teenager a million years ago, but we didn't spend a ton of time in Swiss-land before heading south into Italy on that occasion, so it's going to be like seeing it again for the first time for me. Wife has never been there. We're pretty wide open in terms of where to go and what to see. Mrs. Spackler is more interested in seeing the Alps, checking out mountain villages, doing some hikes, etc., than she is in seeing cities like Zurich or Lucerne, although I wouldn't rule out the idea of spending a day in someplace like Bern or Zurich if it's worth doing so. My initial thoughts are to use Interlaken as a base for at least a few days to explore the Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Murren, etc. areas. Zermatt is a definite possibility as well. Learn me on Switzerland, oh Surlyites. This thread is helpful as is the other one about "Switzerland in the summer," but more info is always good. TIA
  7. That's what my buddy said when we were driving in the desert trying to dispose of a body.
  8. What'll you have, Normie? Well, I'm in a gambling mood, Sammy. I'll take a glass of whatever comes out of that tap. Looks like beer, Norm. Call me Mister Lucky.
  9. Rest in piece, Shoeless Joe
  10. Jackson batted .375 in that series and didn't commit an error. He took $$, but I don't think his play helped throw that series, so I don't have a problem with lifting the ban as to him. Some of his teammates OTOH should have stayed banned.
  11. I'm okay with it.
  12. This might be Steve Nieve's best work on an EC song, esp. the middle 8 and the fadeout.
  13. How about a turrrrrrrible pic snapped when I took a quick break after hooking the speakers up? Took a while for the receiver to arrive. Cheap-ass Sony DVD/CD player is what I'm currently using to play CDs. All in all, there's plenty of juice for this small room. After this pic was taken, I found an old Paradigm sub in a box in the garage, so I'm gonna hook that up next once I find the damn cable. It should help with the lows that the KEFs just can't reach. Not sure what I'll do when I add a turntable. I typically don't want the 'table on the same surface as speakers. Might try it just see if there's an issue, and buy stands if there is a problem with the turntable being affected by vibrations from the speakers.
  14. Over the years, I've found that Bogle reds are typically a good value. Their '21 Essential Red made Wine Enthusiast's list of top-rated wines under $20 last year.
  15. A stellar collection of songs that were cut in studios in Muscle Shoals. Aretha, Otis, Etta James, Wilson Pickett, etc., etc.
  16. Saw it this weekend. Thought it was good, not great. It held my attention. Chalomet and Norton were both very good.
  17. "Cheat if you have to." So much for that vaunted aggy code of conduct.
  18. Pretty sure Robert Longerbeam is the dude's porn name
  19. And he's the one out of the three that I think won't get drafted.
  20. Bond and Majors are still available as well. Gotta think at least one of the three gets drafted. My guess is it'll be two.
