  1. So I guess the President can now simply choose not to enforce any laws he doesn’t like. Let’s call it the TikTok principle. Democracy was nice, it’s such a shame to see it gone
  2. Don’t worry! Their future is actually measured by potential to sell personal service robots and will have nothing to do with cars so that surely will explain why the stock doesn’t crater
  3. See, while you are rightly embarrassed by this ambush, the Joe Rogan crowd are only too excited to support it: No word yet if Theo Vonn is receiving cash for these takes like other right wing podcasters or if he’s just an idiot
  4. It means Ukraine has no leverage without American weapons or aid. It’s just written by some idiot like Dan Scovino so it doesn’t make any fucking sense
  5. Counterpoint: He was injured for parts of the last two seasons. If it happened next season maybe he doesn’t get drafted at all.
  6. Where is the statutory authority to offer this? Can we all step back and remember we have to pass laws in this country? They might not even be able to pass a budget with their own votes through reconciliation- they surely won’t be able to pass anything that needs to beat a filibuster
  7. Prove the fraud! “Fraud” is just now code for “spending I don’t like”. The actual inspector generals had offices and budgets and their jobs were- get this- to root out waste, fraud and abuse. And they all got fired without new replacements. Those people had to hold actual investigations and then make public findings. Now Elon posts lies and then impounds funds appropriated by Congress. What a great system that is definitely about fraud and not just showy bullshit to distract from firing all the regulators trying to hold his companies accountable
  8. I am at the point where I hope they do gut Medicaid by 880 billion and dramatically shrink SNAP benefits without a single democratic rep’s vote. This will disproportionately harm red states and this is what happens when you elect republicans
  9. And now in what I’m sure is a total coincidence, the senior JAGs that must have convinced the administration to clear Gitmo have all been fired.
  10. And the contract was already awarded to Verizon. Either we are going to pay to rip starlink out or we are going to pay Verizon a shit ton of money. Hey I found some government waste after all
  11. I think we solved the mystery
  12. Market instability will be followed by measurable job losses, continued high interest rates, increased prices for utilities and groceries, increased trillions to the national debt, increased inflation, and trade wars further harming major industries like housing and auto makers. It’s probably a great time to be a billionaire- but everyone else is going to get railroaded
  13. Come on buddy, this was the most obvious unenforceable BS. Of course you were fired
  14. What happens when they tell us Elon checked the gold and it’s not there
  15. They aren’t actually going to try to have a balanced budget. They’re going to add trillions to the debt to pay for tax cuts and they are gutting the IRS. The last Trump presidency increased the deficit more than any other administration
  16. But see Article 1, Section 8 of the fucking Constitution. I love how that and the blatant illegality of it all gets zero mention in the headline
  17. That might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever read
  18. It’s worse than that. The Trump team has elevated radicals who are actively trying to permanently destroy the federal government into cabinet positions. These aren’t Karens angry about COVID safety measures- they are think tankers and Ayn Rand acolytes who were pulled from the fringes and given an opportunity to fuck up all regulatory oversight in every industry. And they’re doing without a single vote from Congress or any new laws actually signed
  19. God bless the journalists who figured this out, but “This ICE attorney is an online white supremacist” has got to be the least surprising thing I’ve read today.
  20. Can’t have a depression if you fire all the economists! See also, can’t have a bird flu if you fire all the scientists! /we are so fucked
  21. We are shipping brown people to Gitmo and no one knows their names, their citizenship, or if they’ve committed any crimes. Trump’s administration is directing dismissals and prosecutions at the DOJ, and stopping payments or agency actions codified in law. He’s openly refusing to enforce laws like the TikTok ban and when ordered to stop by a court, the legal team just says “well we think this other thing gives us legal authority to keep doing it” and they just keep on doing it. He’s literally called himself a king now. That’s all to say, it’s not too alarmist to stand up and call out this fascist bullshit for what it is. Trying to cling to the idea that we need to wait for the next shoe to drop is how you boil a frog. We’re already in the damn pot
  22. Can anyone name one policy advancement in the last 4 weeks that doesn’t happen to align with exactly what Russia would want to achieve if it had control over US policy? -Crippling of government agencies to sow distrust of government within the US -blaming Zelensky for Russian invasion of independent and democratic nation -publicly capitulating to Russian terms on keeping territories -telling Europe we will not enforce their security problems -pledging to reduce our military by half -creating trade wars with our allies and China to isolate US influence -DOJ reassigned or fired those in charge of enforcing sanctions against Russian oligarchs -DOJ disbanded task force on protecting our elections from international interference Its impossible to conclude anything other than Trump has sold out our foreign policy and standing in the world and meanwhile he’s got a meme coin giving him the ability to accept limitless funds from anonymous international actors which I’m sure is a coincidence
  23. You’re likely going to have to wait until trial or for a party to leak something to YouTube (and even then, I’d take with a grain of salt, bc can be out of context or intentionally misleading) Discovery materials aren’t flashy and aren’t typically filed with the court (and therefore aren’t public.) So unless a court filing attaches something like Answers to Interrogatories or deposition excerpts to a motion, there’s not a lot of opportunity to examine “actual evidence”. There just aren’t daily/weekly public developments in a case like this. Discovery is a slow and boring process dealing with stuff like Subpoenas for documents, compromises over electronic discovery search terms, written objections, corporate designee testimony, deficiency letters, meet and confer meetings, motions to compel - and depositions themselves (oooo testimony under oath) can be 7 hours long or sometimes longer. Sometimes the most legally significant part of a depo can just be acknowledging or admitting that a document is authentic. All that to say, you can’t judge the strength of either side’s case yet - especially because I’m not sure they've started the discovery phase in the California or NY cases. And you’re likely going to have to wait a long time before anything significant happens in public
  24. Hundreds fired, and then attempts to get them to temporarily come to work to man our nuclear strike capabilities… just real genius stuff And never mind the lack of congressional authority or oversight for any of these actions. Incompetent cowards
