  1. 5 point game with 7 minutes left, and both teams are shooting poorly. Can't be too upset with that, OKC plays really good defense too, and both offenses are sputtering tonight. Seems like a lot of missed free throws for the Rockets though. Hope they can pull it off just for the fun of it, but no shame in losing to the Thunder here. They are really really good.
  2. Just looking through some predictions for contracts on these guys for fun: Walker: some say 3 years for 50-75m, or a 1 year 20-27m deal. Seems like a lot, but I do like the short term option for flexibility. Santander: 5 years 88-150m or something longer that spreads out the cost more. He's 30, so anything beyond 4-5 years is going to be during his decline. Still worth it if they can get him to replace Tucker. I just don't think they have the available cash to sign 2 guys at that salary. Until they move other contracts, they are kinda stuck looking for bargains. That Abreu 3rd year still stings, as that money would likely get you Walker for a 1 year rental. I can see the STL deal being appealing because you move the other money at the same time, and potentially get an OF with a couple years of control. That would plug 2 holes at once, shift cash around nicely, and provide some future flexibility. I'm not sure what prospect would need to go to STL in that deal, but it would be nice to get it all done at once. I hope one of those paths work out at least, and we don't end up with some shit like Grichuk and Gallo.
  3. I agree, they will object, derail it from happening, then leave NATO a short while later.
  4. Yikes, that's 42m over 3 years in salary plus 50m deferred. He's 33, so no guarantee he's actually worth it for the next 3 years. Lance costs 35m the next 2 years, Pressley is 14m, so they would cover about half of Arenados cost by sending them out. I don't see why they want to get him if they just got Paredes to play third for a much cheaper cost over the next 3 years. I would rather see them sign Walker as a free agent with no cost in players and find another OF or two. Unless STL is including one of their Outfielders in the deal, I don't think it's worth the cost.
  5. If you trade for Arenado, how does the 50 million in deferred money work? Is that part of the trade? His contract for the next 3 years is already steep, but that deferred money makes it untouchable.
  6. Sad to see Tuck go, but I understand. Build for the future and hope your talent pipeline continues to pull diamonds out of the rough. The Astros farm system has gotten little respect from the people who evaluate Mlb prospects, despite producing a lot of good pitchers. The NL next year is going to be an interesting MVP race with Ohtani, Soto and Tucker over there.
  7. 2 minute report is out, and it claims it was the correct call on the loose ball foul. Rewatching the video, I think it should have been a timeout and not a foul. Typically the league doesn't go against the refs when someone makes a big stink about a single call, so it might just be covering their asses. Green does get possession of the ball though, he won that scrum at the very least. It also says that there should have been a 5 second violation on their inbounds with 3.5 seconds left in the game: https://official.nba.com/l2m/L2MReport.html?gameId=0022401204
  8. Trying to find a way to force himself and Bronny back to Cleveland...
  9. This is so true. It was a solid 7/8 seconds and should have been a turnover ending the game. The refs helped GS a lot that game, but the Rockets somehow made it through. Their defense is fun to watch and their offense has its moments. If this team ever figures out how to shoot consistently, they will be a contender. Just need to figure out how to flip Green for a 3+D guy with some length and they will be in great shape. Or stand pat and hope someone on the roster can become that guy.
  10. Am I crazy? I didn't see anything resembling a foul on that play.
  11. Oh look, another bullshit call for the Warriors. Barely any contact there.
  12. I really enjoyed the first 4 seasons of Dexter, but most everything after that has been underwhelming at best. Dexter could have been a truly epic series if it took the same path as Breaking Bad and ended with 5 seasons and the death of the main character.
  13. If it's a deal that centers around Jalen Green going out, I would happily do that deal for Jimmy. Even if Jimmy only plays half the games, Jimmy's attitude and veteran presence would be incredibly useful for this young Rockets team. Certainly more so than whatever intangibles Jalen Green brings to the table. I don't think Green's eligible to be traded though, since he signed his extension on the very last day possible, I'm pretty sure he's not eligible until after the deadline.
  14. I think it has a lot more to do with people in the middle not liking Kamala for numerous reasons that don't have to do with her race or gender. Despite all the crazy shit he says Trump got a couple million more votes than 2020, but she lost several million votes compared to Biden and performed much worse in many solid Blue areas. Again, I go back to the point that I don't think she would win a normal Dem primary if given the chance. All of her candidates for her VP were better choices for the top of the ticket, and they probably beat Trump if they make it through the normal primary process. Shapiro, Whitmer, Newsome, Beshear, Wes Moore, etc, any combo of them would have been a better option.
  15. Interesting development...
  16. Some random blurbs from ESPN: Winter meetings news and rumors Dec. 10 buzz Why Astros' Tucker is coming up in trade speculation Houston Astros owner Jim Crane has not gone beyond six years in his offers to players, and it's pretty clear that if Kyle Tucker stays healthy, he is going to be offered big money/big years as a free agent next fall. So Houston has a choice similar to Boston's in the offseason after 2019 with Mookie Betts: trade him for value this winter or next July, or, watch him walk away. The Astros have indicated to other teams that, as a rule, they'll listen to offers for anyone on their roster. But rival execs note that while trading Tucker now might help them recoup more value, the Astros -- who've been in win-now mode since 2015 -- have a long history of allowing their impending free agents walk out the door, rather than flipping them in pre-emptive trades. Gerrit Cole, George Springer and Carlos Correa are three of the most prominent examples of this philosophy. "And they're trying to win (in 2025)," said one rival evaluator. "I have a hard time seeing them trade Tucker or Framber (Valdez)."-- Buster Olney Could Soto's megadeal help Astros' Tucker? In the aftermath of Juan Soto's massive contract, I'm hearing some evaluators talking about the huge payday ahead for Kyle Tucker, who will be a free agent next offseason. Since the start of 2019: an adjusted OPS+ of 142, .882 OPS, 125 homers, 93 steals in 105 attempts, a Gold Glove Award. He'll be 29 at the outset of the 2026 season. -- Buster Olney
  17. Yeah, you can't believe every meme on Facebook
  18. Some great coverage of how this team is working right now:
  19. I'm sure if they call enough people stupid, they will win the LatinX vote in 2028!
  20. The issue isn't the regulation you follow, for many meds that is necessary. The problem is that these regulations are being applied to a drug that simply doesn't need it. Politicians are just using this as a way to muck up the sales of a product they don't like. Marijuana should be descheduled and decriminalized at the Federal level. Then let states decide how to regulate it, the same way they do alcohol and tobacco. This isn't a "hard" or addictive drug, and the chance of overdose is basically zero. It should be treated like an OTC drug due to the significantly less degree of harm it can cause compared to so many other drugs readily available.
  21. All of that rightwing infrastructure existed in 2020, and Biden still got 81 million votes. I don't think it's the lies that matter, having a candidate that isn't tied to the currently very unpopular administration would have made the difference. That candidate also needed to be different from the current administration, and not say something like "I wouldn't do anything different." Once Biden decided to run again, the Dem leadership backed him and prevented everyone in the party aside from Doug Phillips from challenging it. It was a colossal miscalculation on their part. Probably due to selfishness from those around Biden who wanted to stay in power and influencial positions, and Bidens ego getting the best of him. Having to back out of that position after a disastrous debate performance, and then straddling the line between "not fit to run" and "fit to be President another 6 months" wasn't helping either. Kamala had to convince people that Joe was just fine and very capable as POTUS, but that he wasn't up to the task of another campaign. It's a very disingenuous argument to make, and it hurt her credibility to do so the whole campaign. The fact is, Kamala never would have won an open Dem primary by herself. She was a convenient fall back plan, that was half baked at best. She never should have been the nominee to begin with, there should have been a primary. It would have told us what we know now, that campaigning primarily on abortion rights, "saving democracy" and the status quo isn't going to win this election.
