Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins

So the Dolphins are going to bring back McDaniels and Quinn will be the starter and they hope to accomplish what exactly?

Buy time and lose games, so they can draft a QB high and install a new coach. Dolphins are a complete rebuild. What does this thread look like if Arch is taken by the Dolphins in next year's draft?

Hopefully they stick with Quinn. Looking at other shitty program like the Jags, Trevor Lawrence's first 4 years were less than stellar too. And now they're on year 5, looking like geniuses.

McDaniels is well liked inside that organization and isn't the problem. He relates well with the players. He is humble and vulnerable, open about his issues with drinking. Most people outside that org don't get his quirkiness. Losing Tyreek early hamstrung that offense. The biggest problem in Miami is Tua's contract and then injuries. They incur a huge dead cap hit if they drop him. Less so if they drop him after June 1st, but it's ridiculous still. I want to say it's 99mil vs something like 66-69m pre vs post June 1. They need to reload that roster with more talent to surround whomever the QB is. I'm hoping it's Quinn, but as usual, teams play QB-merry-go-round before realizing bad contracts are what hold them back.

I enjoyed the Hard Knocks season they did with the 'fins. McDaniel was entertaining and relatable even though he seemed very corny.

Miami already has over $35 million in dead money next year as well, so after they cut Tua they'll be well over $100 million in dead money.

I am hoping that Quinn isn't the guy keeping the seat warm for their first round pick/free agent signing in 2026 once they clear the cap space.

That's probably what he is (except it's likely a 2027 signing/draft pick they're banking on) but that's a lot more of a shot than a 7th round pick usually gets.

I'm actually hoping that's exactly what he is. Because it's an opportunity for him to show that he is better than a 7th round draft pick and will be a solid QB2 at a more stable franchise.

Ewers opportunity came at a terrible time. End of the season. Nobody gives a shit. Best player out for the season. Next receiver just wants to get the season over with. Starting TE goes down. Then Achane goes down. You get to play Cincy but then Burrow and both star receivers are back, and they are one of the best teams in the league when they are healthy. O-line hasn't had the same 5 most of the year. You beat the Sooner's ass, then you get one of the best teams in the NFL when YOUR roster is a bunch of dudes that were serving your table last week.

That said you showed some good things. Sure you had some dumb turnovers, but you showed some great things too. Ball was out on time and target. Throwing dudes open. Different arm platforms, like the TD this week throwing around a free rusher for the TD. If he gets to start the season with a healthy Hill, Achane, Waddle, and a couple other pieces he could show he belongs. Dolphin talking heads seem to like him, and it appears he saved his coaches job. The fact that they got him on the cheap should be the reason they try to tread water to get cap space, and that's all the time he needs to do what he needs to do.

Please don’t let it be Arch

If he spends next year as a caretaker starter for a really bad Fins team, then he most likely he stays in the league for the next 5 years or so. That would give him around 18-20 career starts, and as long as he isn't historically bad, he would be considered a massive "win". As an example, the 2022 draft class (outside of Purdy) has 3 other QBs currently in the 18-25 range of starts. 2023 has the 2 "studs" and then two more in the 12-20 range. 2021 has 5 guys who have made 15 or more starts in the NFL. Getting 20 starts out of any QB at this point is a major win from a late round draft pick.

In truth, he would be on the David Mills career path with starts in his first two years, then seeing the team draft someone to take over. Then stay as the backup. That has earned Mills 12M or so in his career so far and would be an absolute "win" for Quinn.
