Seems like him and Bournemouth could work something out to stay. He was really solid for them.

yeah i was pretty surprised to read this.

That’s a nice £5m bit of transfer business if it gets done. Surprised he would want to be a backup when he clearly could start at a lot of clubs.

And the assist, a beautiful chipped pass that sent him in on goal, came from Zubimendi.

Massive. Some night call it an XL signing, in fact.

wanted to come back to this and highlight its importance, especially among of the asinine “arteta has done nothing impressive” (🙄🙄🙄) talk.

ive been an arsenal supporter for 15 years and this is the first time we’ve ever re-signed a world class player in his prime. we either had old players on bloated wages who we couldn’t even sell for any money, or we had great players in their primes who left us as soon as city, barcelona, or united came calling. this is a big deal. if saliba ends up signing a new contract (which i believe he will) then this right here no doubt plays a huge part in that.

this club is night and day from where it was when arteta took over; night and day. and unlike the majority of our rivals, this isn’t a team that’s going to compete for titles one year and then finish 11th, 4th, 7th, 5th, etc. we are in prime position to be competing for everything going forward, and you can’t do that when you *always* lose your best players in their primes, and/or sign them on the downslope of their career. the Big Gabi signing is huge, both for keeping him here, and for what it means/signifies. i don’t care if fans of other teams who don’t even follow this club don’t see it. this was a monumental signing for us, and a great harbinger of things to come.

Lazio reportedly put a €40m price tag on Nuno. if they were to actually get that much for him it would be worth somewhere between €10m - €16m for us with his sell-on fees.

Lot of opportunity to make a strong statement in these first 5.

On the other hand the apparent degree of difficulty also brings in the prospect of bringing back the vibe from the Wenger end days when DT, Troopz et al were losing their shit on a weekly basis.

💯 And that list doesn’t mention MW6 is Newcastle.

Start 5-0-0 +8, and we’ve laid down a marker for the season.

OTOH…, 1-2-2 -2, and it’s “oh shit here we go again.”

Personally, I’d take 3-2-0 if it was offered RN. We haven’t won at Anfield since 2010 IIRC, 115fc should return to form (esp w/ Rodri back and their ~ £500m summer spend), Leeds will be sky high to be back in the PL, manure always seems a tricky fixture for us, and Forest are on the rise.

Not an easy start, but you gotta play all 19 home and away at some point. COYG

Bergkamp was amazing.

he was way before my time, but having watched a lot of his highlights, if i was comparing him to arsenal players from my time then i’d say he’s like if Ozil and Santi were one player, in aaron ramsey’s body, with aubameyeng’s finishing. or something like that.

£9.3m isn’t bad for a PL-proven MF. He is 31, though. If we’re signing Brentford players, I’d still rather Mbeumo.

I'm trying to decide how to feel about Partey leaving.

Likelihood of him having another injury-fee season wasn’t great, and then there’s the whole “other thing.” Zubamendi is his replacement, which is an upgrade.

He had a few good moments, "few" being the key word there.  I guess it doesn't serve any purpose to hold on to players who aren't likely to ever live up to their potential.

Partey was asking for crazy wages for a backup, and I think 3 years.   No way.    I would rather have that money to spend on upgrading the frontline.

Zubimendi is the 6, Nordgaard backs him up, and plays cup matches.   If we need a 6 for EPL or UCL matches, you slide Rice there.   MLS could play the 6 as well.

Reading Ornstein's article, this kid sounds like a fantastic fit.  Young and can provide cover at both CB spots and RB.  Saliba played way too many minutes and Mosquera can help lighten the load.

OK, enough with the back 5, CF and LW por favor.

Absolutely RE Saliba. And with Gabi XL coming off hammy surgery, we needed CB cover with Tomi MIA and Calafiori injury-prone.

Honest question (leaving who you sign at LW out of it because we don’t know who that is), do you guys think Sesko is “the guy” to put you over the top? I remain unconvinced. He has a lot of raw tools but seems like a huge swing for Arteta to make on a pretty unproven guy.

You never know with transfers. In 1999, Arsene Wenger signed a skinny kid with a scant 23 goals to his name in 121 career appearances to date. That kid? Thierry Henry, who went on to become Arsenal’s leading scorer. Mo Salah had 29 in 65 in his two years at Roma when Klopp brought him to Anfield (Sesko has 27 goals in 64 appearances for Leipzig, for comparison). Granted, Salah was £30m and not £70m, and I’m by no means saying Sesko will be those players. There are other transfers that looked certain to work out but didn’t. You just don’t know.

Both our main striker targets have risk. Sesko is 21 and very raw. The other one is 27, has been a scoring machine, and is in his prime, but the majority of Gyokeres’ goals came against clubs not named Benfica, Porto, or Braga. In other words, he’s feasted against minnows of the Portuguese league.

Long story long… The club and scouts have been looking hard at both Sesko and Gyokeres for several years and have identified these two as the prospects. Our hit rate on transfers has been pretty good of late, as has Berta’s track record when he was sporting director at Atlético. In the scouting dept etc we trust.

But this transfer had better hit, whomever they decide to sign.
