Thanks to new kids schedule I have 3 weeks in November to get out of town.  I haven't been to SE Asia in 4 years.  Fly into SGN and out of Singapore.  I am thinking.

SGN 3 nights

BALI 5 nights

Singapore 3 nights

I've already bene to Viet Nam twice but never Bali or Singapore.  Any one suggest moving those around?  Is singapore worth a few nights?  Should I got somewhere else in Indonesia or Malaysia? I can add a night or two on the trip but I find after 10-12 days I'm ready to get back home.

Singapore was cool. It's small and two full days/three nights is plenty to see the main sights in my opinion. A lot of the architecturally famous buildings you see in photos have aged and are bit shabby when seen close up. But still impressive. I enjoyed the war museum and colonial architecture in the old town. Everything is pretty expensive. Awesome airport.

Singapore is amazing. The food is great. Easy to get around. Plenty to keep you occupied for a few days. I have not been to Bali but I also haven't heard good things about it - dirty, crowded... I've heard there's better destinations in Indonesia.

Starting to see some of this.  Plus I am far far away from the backpack 20 something crowd.  I'm more of a 4 star AC private bath kind of traveler.  Looks like Balis sister island Lombok is better and I can always take a ferrry over for a day or night.

My daughter (no pics) worked for 8 weeks the summer after her sophomore year in Malaysia (KL) and Bali (each for about 4 weeks). Pretty sure she would tell you she enjoyed KL more than Bali. She likes big cities and there was a lot to do there.  She also took a weekend flight down to Singapore and loved that and wants to return.

Also did a weekend up on George Town Island and thought that was great.

Singapore is great. Hot and humid but there is good public transit that is faster than sitting in traffic. The airport is probably the best in the world. Make sure to visit hawker stalls for pretty much every meal and get great food.

I considered KL as well because as much as I like a nice scenic beach I actually prefer big cities.  Art, people watching, good food etc.  I did want to sneak in a few days staring at the ocean and driking a beer or six with nothing to do but lay in the sun.  Maybe I go back to Cambodia instead. I've been wanting to check out their islands.

Singapore is nice. Excellent food scene and very affordable. You will go broke drinking booze though.

KL is also nice, but pretty much like every other big city. I enjoyed the rooftop bars and street food. Penang is also a short flight away if you want something different.

I just did a month in Bali in July. high season. I can offer recs if needed. I loved it there, but its certainly also challenging. Parts are very touristy and getting around is not easy. I mean long distance getting around. Short distance I would take a grab scooter. Do you know which part of Bali? What type of travel i.e. resort, airbnb or guesthouse, and beach or party or culture?

I had a great time in Ubud. There are some very nice villas with private pools. It's not a huge place, but the food is good, it's a cool place to do yoga (took my first class there), hike a volcano, and overall a unique experience. If you end up going I can provide a few more specific recs.

I think Bali's bad reputation is for the beach towns that get flooded with Aussies looking to party like it's Spring Break. We did not spend any time at their beaches because we were heading to a boat tour in the Philippines afterward. Good memories.

Ubud looks pretty good.  I do love me some temples. I dont mind some craziness and people watching I just need to be able to get away from it at some point and get back to some peace.  I get along with everyone and I can make friends in a 60 plus only hotel or a hostel.

No clue.  I'd rather stay at some type of boutique hotel or resort. I dont like mega resorts.  I like all kinds of food. I've eaten at multiple Michellin stars and I've paid .80 for Pho on a street in Ha Noi.  I'm a 3.5 and up star but have spent some nights in some places that looked like a interogation room (hello Playa Maderas Nicaragua). I work quite a bit when I travel so wifi is important. I dont mind taking a taxi or renting a scooter for a day etc and then back to my balcony over looking the pool or beach etc.

Spending the day out and about and comgin back to this looks pretty perfect

We went to Bali for our honeymoon in September 2008. Weather in September is phenomenal. We stayed 3 nights at a beach resort which was a bit isolated / contained, which is great when you're newlyweds and spend a lot of time getting it on. I recommend doing day yours of the temples, elephant parks, etc.

We moved up to Ubud for the next 3 days where there was nominally more things to do. If you are going to the monkey park with a handful of bananas, brace yourself. The sight of 30 monkeys charging you is pretty intimidating.

Also. Wood penis carvings. Lots of wood penis carvings.
