  1. I've looked on Amazon but so far no luck.
  2. Is pale grants another way of saying under the table payments by old Bama grads?
  3. Mine too. I offered to but her nicer purses (Kate Spade, Coach) for gifts but she says she won't spend more than $20 for a purse. And she buys one once every 2 or 3 years. But shoes are a different story. She doesn't buy anything expensive but she has more than she can ever wear. 2 hanging racks in her closet and a 3 layer shoe shelf next to the bed. I have 2 pair of dress shoes, a pair of steel toed boots, 1 pair of hiking boots and 2 pair of tennis shoes. Newest purchase was a couple of years ago. On another note, we had our 41st anniversary last week. I bought her roses and offered to take her out to dinner and go look for a gift. She said she wanted to stay home because there were TV 2 shows she wanted to watch. So she watched her shows and FB videos. She never got out of her chair that evening, so I handed her a card while she watched TV. I never got her a gift but she got me a hoe. And not the fun kind. Who says romance is dead?
  4. I tried to get a picture of all the trash and used cars that GOD must have thrown over the edge that landed here too. But I didn't have time.
  5. Oh, he is a registered sex offender. I'm pretty sure that's why he has them. He's rated low on their recidivism radar and was convicted in an online police sting.

    Getting old sucks

My wife turned 65 last year and got on Medicare. She's been having back problems (inherited from her dad) and pain in her hips. She made an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon who took Medicare patients. He took x-rays of her hips and told her she was bone on bone in her hips and that she needed double hip replacement. When she ask him about options, he told her there were none and to come schedule an appointment when the pain became unbearable. He refused to talk to her about her back and said she needed to make another appointment. I told her that was BS and she needed to get a second opinion. She saw my surgeon who took an MRI. The surgeon said her hips were fine with no problems. She once worked in a surgeons office and could see there was nothing wrong with them. She had 2 bulging disc and arthritis in her back. No surgery needed, just pain management and exercise. How can two professionals be so far off in their diagnosis? I'm convinced the first one really didn't care and went in with a preconceived notion based on her age and insurance. I'd like to raise hell but she just wants to forget about it. It just pisses me off that he wouldn't listen to her, blew her off and said when it starts hurting to much, come back and we'll cut.
  7. I had read that he was doing some sketchy stuff. But, unless he was about to run, I don't understand why they just didn't get him at his desk, the parking lot at work or just pull him over at the end of the street. Predawn kicking in the door of someone who keeps firearms is probably not going to end peacefully.
  8. A month ago my wife took on a part-time job working for an estate sale company. After 2 estate sales we are in the hole, because she has bought more than she earned. "We need this dining room set for 8 in case our family shows up at the same time for dinner". Which has never happened in 30 years. And "I couldn't pass up on this bookcase, it was so cheap". Now all I need to do is build new walls in the house so we have a place to put it or clean out her room of teaching supplies which she "stored" 7 years ago after retiring from teaching.
  9. My ex-BIL was arrested in FAR west Texas in the 80's for DWI. He contacted a local attorney who told him that he could handle the case for $10,000. My BIL ask him how he was going to handle it. The attorney said just give him $10,000 and don't ask any questions. It magically all disappeared.
  10. When the covid lock down hit, my wife and I would just get in the car and drive through the country. My daughter was visiting country cemeteries and taking pics of a lot of the interesting tombstones, so we decided to see some too. And we still do occasionally, on Sunday afternoons. We saw this epitaph on a stone and I thought it looked like a good beginning for a movie.
  11. Maybe he carried his wallet in a briefcase?
  12. Somewhere, floating around the internet, is an NCAA report on Alabama recruiting violations in the 90's. They promised a kid $20k for signing. $10k up front and $10k after signing. The kid took the first briefcase full of $100's and then signed with someone else. Boosters were out $10k and couldn't do a thing about it.
  13. But, they've left her no choice!
  14. I was talking to a neighbor the other day about the occasional coyotes I see in our yard. I had one pretty close to the house but didn't have a pistol handy to shoot it. He said he'd use a long gun, which makes sense but their houses within 1/4 mile behind us and I told him I didn't think it was a good idea. He told me he has a .30 cal and .50 cal air gun which would take them down. I won't bore you with the rest of the conversation but when I ask him about charging them, he said it took 30+ minutes with an air compressor. I didn't ask him how he was planning to get a coyote to stand still for 30 minutes while he charged his gun. Which leads me to my question. What good does a gun do you if you have to wait 30 mins to an hour before you use it. Does anyone have any experience or insight to why they make sense? They can be as expensive as regular rifles and besides the novelty, I can't see any real advantage with them.
  15. Years ago, I saw our cat hunkered down in the yard being dive bombed by a Blue Jay. I just thought how stupid is he. Later that afternoon I went on the back porch and it was covered with feathers and bird parts. He would lay in the grass, take a few pecks to the head to lure them in close and then grab them midair as they got bolder. He was a hunting machine.
  16. Credit cards make transactions easy because you get your money up front and the customer doesn't have to carry cash. But to a merchant, CC charges are expensive. They are negotiable to a certain extent but I think for most small/medium companies they vary 2-5%. It doesn't sound like much but to a small merchant it's a big deal. If you sell $100K a month on CC's, your processing fees can run around $3K+ a month. If you have a 30% gross profit margin, that's 10% of your profit going to processing a CC. With inflation driving cost up and consumers putting pressure on sellers to keep prices down, companies are getting squeezed. Most are forced to add it because they can't absorb it any more.
  17. Back in the 70's a friend of mines dad was trying to buy a Datsun B210 for the gas mileage. He had an old pickup that he was driving to their farm and his gas bill was expensive. As he was negotiating a price with the salesman, they both came to a sticking point. The salesman turned to his wife and said "wouldn't you like to have a nice new car?" She didn't and said to him "Screw that car. You can take it and drive it up your ass" and walked out. His dad shrugged and followed her to the parking lot. The salesman followed them and agreed to his price. I don't know if she was going through menopause or not but it was an effective car negotiating tool.
  18. Probably should go in the divorce thread but I'm not divorced so I'll put it here. "Referencing research pertaining to corporate psychopaths and how they operate in high-achieving roles in workplaces, Dr. Boddy explains female psychopaths tend to be more manipulative than males, use different techniques to create good impressions, and use deceit and sexually seductive behavior to gain social and financial advantages more often than male psychopaths." https://studyfinds.org/female-psychopaths-are-surprisingly-common/
  19. It's called male pattern deafness. Eventually you just learn to tune them out and then say it's because your losing your hearing.
  20. In the late 60's, early 70's there was an adult theater in Fort Worth. I think it was the Capri. The voicemail was always done by some slutty/campy voiced woman who would tell the names of the movies and times with a double entendre filled description of the movie. It was quite entertaining for a hormone raging preteen.
  21. Triggering pic. Years ago I went into an account and the purchasing agent was on the phone. She told me to get a cup of coffee and wait. They had one of these that hadn't been cleaned in a long while. The pot was stuck to the burner and when I pulled on the handle the pot broke. I poured an entire pot of boiling coffee on me that hit about 2" below my nuts and down my leg. My skin peeled like 3 ply toilet paper. 3rd degree burns and I still have scars on my legs. I hate these with a passion. Definitely make me surly.
  22. The dog smells something fishy.
