  1. Ted Cruz postulating at the PC right now. What a fucking tool.
  2. That IS weird. I agree with that.
  3. Actor Mark Ruffalo blasts Rogan for being late to call mass deportations insane https://www.mediaite.com/media/news/a-little-late-mark-ruffalo-torches-joe-rogan-over-outrage-at-insane-ice-deportations/
  4. I don't think it's weird per se. I hate to paint with a very large brush but think about the demographics. There aren't any poor kids going to Mystic or Waldemar or any of the other summer camps that have waiting lists, interviews and acceptance ceremonies (Mystic has all of those, I believe). FF to when these kids have kids of their own. Their daughters MUST go to Mystic, which is still revered by these mothers who are in their 20's, 30's or 40's. You probably have a better chance if you're somewhat active in the camp's recruitment activities, etc, just like in many other organizations. Sounds like there's room for 750 or so campers per session. Anyway, many of these women do not work (again, broad brush) as they're full-time raising children (with or without help). This is something for them to do to stay active or engaged with other similar demographic peers and so on. I don't think any of that is particularly weird. As mentioned earlier, my best friend from HS (may he RIP) met his future wife while working in the camp kitchen several summers. She was a former camper and was at time the equestrian instructor. They had four girls and every year, even before the girls were even old enough to attend would go up to Mystic and visit. I think they even stayed there some of the time when camp wasn't in session. The couple who own the camp and perished on Friday morning were revered by just about anyone who ever had reason to cross paths with Camp Mystic.
  5. It’s more akin to another group you belong to — a fraternity or sorority or a student body on a much smaller basis. There are people who have their “camp friends” in addition to their traditional friends back home and at school. When I got to UT, there were people who knew each other from Camp Longhorn or whatever and had never seen each other or spoken outside of camp. We didn’t have ways to readily stay in touch with each other once you left camp back in the 80’s.
  6. Hilarious might be a stretch. https://amp.knowyourmeme.com/editorials/guides/what-is-the-worst-person-you-know-just-made-a-great-point-meme-the-viral-reaction-image-explained
  7. The story of how this guy got “famous” is hilarious.
  8. Pretty sure I’d be a-ok with an IP ban of Rex Kramer/Dr Beeper/King George.
  9. I had a discussion with my wife last night. The confusion of watch vs warning is confusing enough. Let’s use something like the DEFCON system from WarGames. 5 is no big deal. 1 is get the fuck out, we’re all gonna die. Something like that. Americans are stupid. Make it easier.
  10. So refrigerator trucks/mobile morgues for the bodies
  11. Sounds like La Junta could’ve been really bad too save for the efforts of some bad ass counselors.
  12. Nice D, Ream
  13. These are the grandkids of the couple I mentioned yesterday. The grandparents were dental patients of my FIL. The father went to ESD with my wife. Sounds like the parents were five houses down in the flooding and the father jumped in a kayak or some other small boat to try and get to his parents’ house but wasn’t able to fight the current.
  14. Watching that fuckstick take a hard turn into oncoming MAGA traffic is equal parts hilarious and pathetic.
  15. All of the private camps have some sort of loose “Christian” hook. Longhorn makes all the kids go up to a mountain bluff every Sunday for some kind of service. My kids went to Ozark in Arkansas for a number of years. It’s a “Christian” camp too. I’m sure the religious angle helps with marketing and maybe even for tax exemptions, etc. But I’m a cynical bastard these days.
  16. Just got a text from another source ‘confirming’ this news.
  17. Somebody on the other thread posted that they’re hearing they found the missing girls and counselor from the Bubble Inn cabin dead.
  18. Well, appears we have two threads now. WSJ reports 67 dead now. We still have 11 missing campers and one counselor from Mystic.
  19. WSJ says death toll up to 67. Eleven Mystic campers and one counselor still missing.
  20. I was thinking this yesterday after we heard that the body of our friends’ daughter was found. The Fourth of July will forever be a day of sadness for them. Silly, I guess, but it’s what I was thinking.
  21. Texas flooded. People died. MAGA’s reaction was predictably fucked up https://open.substack.com/pub/jefftiedrich/p/texas-flooded-people-died-magas-reaction?r=3agz2m&utm_medium=ios
  22. That whole company is amazing. Full stop.
