  1. Hey, don’t be shitting on WTSU! (You have no idea what they were paying Duane Thomas and Mercury Morris back in the good ol’ days) oh, and fuck a&m. Also, Amarillo has 2 good restaurants and a good pizza place now, so there’s that
  2. And 100% of those coupons don’t work for us olds on Medicare Part D. Also, the rise of high tech/recombinant drugs makes many choices simply astronomically expensive (may not really apply to your specialty.)
  3. Forget Underwood’s-yes, I live in the area. The Turtle in downtown Brownwood is easily the best restaurant in town, eclectic, Mediterranean, Italian, who knows what’s next? Don’t miss Perini’s.
  4. Satisfaction-only the best R&R song ever Sympathy for the Devil-the song our parents were warning us about; also, see the Godard movie Honky Tonk Women-Stones raunch at its best
  5. Probably the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in person in my life was behind the counter in the DQ in Buffalo. I actually stopped within 6 feet of the counter and did a 360 looking for the cameras-nope. Early evening shift, but it was 30 years ago. About 18, nearly 6 foot tall, and pure Miss America quality. Good luck with your miserable commutes.
  6. From the top of the Hill Country-FIGHT!
  7. I’ve often said that Arkansas would be the first place to test a massive neutron bomb-destroy all the arkies, and the rest of the state would be a wonderful park.
  8. Ah, the good ole days! My first airline adventure was Amarillo to El Paso on Braniff, then El Paso to Mexico City on Aeromexico in 1970. Next to me was an experienced business traveler who evidently noticed I was a little nervous. He very kindly spent 3 or 4 minutes explaining what was procedure and that I really had nothing to worry about. Then when we wheeled to the runway to run up the engines, he pulled a rosary from his pocket and started fingering the beads and murmuring-I nearly pissed my pants! both planes reeked of stale cigarette smoke; OTOH, those cute stewardesses kept bringing the free screwdrivers to me on both flights. I made it, but it’s better now, even with all the hassles.
  9. Third Aster film I’ve seen; I think any film should have some root in “realism”. Of some sort. Aster is now on my list of “don’t bother.” Tastes vary.
  10. Somebody sure missed something. This movie was a sort of Hollywood liberal revisionist fever dream-and I’m a capital “L” liberal myself. I worked the Covid pandemic in a small Texas town (as a health care provider), and this was nowhere near reality. “Suspension of disbelief” doesn’t even come close. I’ve watched several thousand movies (and still watch a couple hundred per year); this one goes directly to the trash heap. Can you tell I didn’t care for it? You want a revisionist western? Go watch “The Wild Bunch” or “Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia” or even “The Searchers.” OTOH, it’s hard to believe that a filmmaker could make TorC NM look even more miserable than it is, but this guy came pretty close!
  11. Apocalypse Now- any edition Animal House-I was at the 40 Acres when it came out, and I laughed so hard my wife got embarrassed and moved across the theater. I think I knew all those characters.
  12. Somebody has to say it-Pampa. Long drive, though.
  13. Saw “Eddington” Monday afternoon. A complete and total waste of 2 1/2 hours. I would have left at the 20 minute mark, but glanced at my wife (no pics) and thought she was engrossed-turns out she was asleep. I can’t even describe what a bad film this was, and I’ve seen “Billy the Kid Meets Dracula.” Wow. Like a product of a sophomore in film school.
  14. That’s a beauty! Making my hands itch to just try it out. Congrats
  15. “My Girl” by The Temptations. James Jamerson’s bass line is exquisite. No. I don’t play bass
