  1. This is going to be very interesting-the BATFE approach. Asking for a friend: so, if you already own an AR-15 pistol with a brace, do you have to now get it registered as an SBR? $200 more for $35 brace? Months of waiting? Where does the pistol reside while waiting for your stamp? Isn’t there a special engraving done on SBR’s? Any grandfathering? Using an EO to create this hassle is really disheartening.
  2. Blair’s Western Wear in Marble Falls carries Anderson Bean, nice drive out there
  3. Pretty good stuff, but I could introduce you to a gaggle of (older) genuine cowboys that never wear a straw hat-NEVER. Those are for farmers. I wear straw, starting probably tomorrow, but I’m no cowboy. Our family bootmaker, now deceased, (at least 12 pair), once told me that you should try on boots with a fresh pair of socks like you intend to wear; if the heel slip is there, it’s bullshit-the bootmaker wants you to fit the boot to your feet with sweat shrinkage. They should fit perfectly from first wearing. Hats? Take a look at thefedoralounge.com. If you want a nice hat, go custom and forget the overpriced crappy Stetson/Resistol lids. There’s much, much nicer out there for less money.
  4. So now we’re off on school cafeterias? The stories I could tell........I’d have cut some fat lunch lady for a bowl of chili! Horrific, dry, tasteless “hamburgers” once a week. Made the salty bland canned vegetable look pretty good.
  5. Interesting. My current bottle of Bombay Sapphire and its backup both say 47%, not 40. Citadelle and G’Vine both make a pleasant, easy sipping martini (or Gibson, my preference) with flavor without oiliness. My first experience with gin was warm Gordon’s right out of the bottle. Do not recommend.
  6. Of course i would-not since Friday night, though. Bombay Sapphire with a cocktail onion my preference, but Tanqueray will certainly do- check out Richard Nixon’s lauded martini recipe, he was a martini guy.
  7. Except the Blue Book values are typically out of date before it goes to the printer. Sold items on Gunbroker are a better gauge, especially nowadays. Went to the gun show in Kerrville on Saturday, and prices are up roughly 100% since a year ago. Junker Winchester Mod 12 with cut 19” barrel for $500, anyone? How about a 3rd Generation Glock 26 for $795 and no dealing? New world out there, but it seemed like a lot more looking than buying, perhaps more action in the parking lot......
  8. Hogfish B&G and El Siboney on Stock Island. Try the hogfish (duh!) and empanadas, respectively.
  9. Bullshit comments like that are exactly why I don’t go to steakhouses; I’ve given up on trying to teach wait people and line cooks their job. If you want medium rare or Pittsburgh blue, eat it that way; I want MEDIUM WELL, goddamit-and I’m buying mine!
  10. Dream Catcher Charters out of Key West—Island Jen can set you up, great boats and equipment.
  11. This! Chipseal must be pretty cheap, and it’s everywhere-loud and rough. Some TxDot aggy needs a baseball bat upside the head........
  12. Happy birthday! Mine, too-but I think I have bunch of Panhandle years on you- Those intro press conferences are interesting, hope we don’t have to parse another one for many years, Sark impressed me, too. Hell, I was all in on Strong and Herman both, so I obviously know nothing. All this defensive alignment talk is making my head hurt...............
  13. Rule of thumb: starter gun safe should be bigger than your current refrigerator.
  14. Money laundering. Don’t even ask.
  15. “Nicest gas station in Brownwood?” Does that mean no one was making meth in the back floorboard of their F150 while filling up? Yes, I’M local, and yes, I’ve seen this........
  16. Is that what you call a rhetorical question? Forget it, OC92-it’s Louisiana.
  17. Half-assed naoch, whisky, and regret
  18. Can I buy just one bite instead of a whole sandwich? Intriguing yet disgusting.
  19. My mouth is literally agape, but since both sauces are in my essential food groups, I may give it a try.............
  20. Closed on Sunday and Monday. I’ll report back..........
  21. I can be there in about an hour and a half-first i gotta see if they’re open on a Sunday........
  22. Bachman P&G-I bought a gun there, once. Once. Ray’s was (is?) an interesting place-first trip in there, 1978, I spent an hour talking with Ray and bought an oddball shotgun; he didn’t suffer fools gladly. Later manager was a real tall guy with shaved head and safari wardrobe-he was hard to deal with. Of course, in that business you get plenty of know-it-alls and weirdos coming through the door.
  23. Cassoulet, of all things, at a literal hole in the wall restaurant 3 or 4 blocks from the Musee d’Orsay, on my first trip to Paris. Peasant food, but it showed clearly what the French attitude toward perfection in cooking could produce-especially since I grew up on post-WWII convenience foods and chewy ranch beef
