  1. Note the way Jaycee is holding up her left arm getting ready for the future. 🙂 Very happy for Cat and her Family.
  2. Sry to hear. Many local teams probably bought all the tickets. If you haven't, may want to call SHSU ticket office to see if they are arranging for temporary extra bleacher seats or if lawn chair seating is available.
  3. RIP, Jeff. Luv ya ! Jeff Ontiveros, who set home run records at Texas and still holds the mark for games played in a Longhorns uniform, died this week, the school acknowledged Saturday. A tweet from the Texas baseball program said: "We are saddened to hear of the passing of Jeff Ontiveros, ’02 national champion and the Longhorns’ all-time leader in games played. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones." The Twitter account belonging to the baseball team at Round Rock High School, where Ontiveros won a state championship in 1997, said he died Friday morning. No cause of death has been announced. Ontiveros, 43, played at Texas from 1999 to 2002. The first baseman is still the Longhorns' all-time leader in games played (260), starts (253), at-bats (922) and total bases (510). He also left Texas as the Longhorns' home run king, though his 55 career homers were surpassed by Kyle Russell's 57. The 20 home runs he hit in 2002 were bested by Ivan Melendez (32 in 2022), Russell (28 in 2007) and Kody Clemens (24 in 2018). While Melendez was resetting the school standard last season, Ontiveros told the American-Statesman: "Kid's a phenomenal player. It's fun to watch him compete at that kind of level." On his final play in a UT uniform, Ontiveros scooped up a grounder hit by a South Carolina batter and stepped on first base to secure the 2002 College World Series title. "Jeff was someone I grew up idolizing as a high school standout, then a college leader, then a teammate who provided all of us with his blend of absolute toughness and beautiful love for the game," former UT teammate Huston Street tweeted Saturday. "He is a Longhorn Legend, Champion, and made all those around him better." After he left Texas, Ontiveros played for a few years in Boston's farm system. https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/baseball/2023/03/04/former-texas-baseball-slugger-jeff-ontiveros-passes-away/69971648007/

  7. Hope they are successful in drawing support. Begins June 15. No mention of where they will play. Excerpts: Austin has a new professional sports team in town: The Texas Smoke, the fourth franchise team in Women’s Professional Fastpitch (WPF) softball. The team is owned by professional athletes and couple Brandon Phillips and Jade Cargill. Phillips previously played in Major League Baseball and currently plays for the Lexington Legends. Cargill is the current and longest-reigning All Elite Wrestling champion. The team will be coached by Tori Tyson, who is the current softball head coach at Howard University and previously an assistant coach for the Chicago Bandits, another professional fastpitch softball team. The Texas Smoke’s roster includes Janae Jefferson, AnaMarie Bruni, Ciara Bryan, Jordan Dail, Marta Gasparotto, Morgan Howe, Alyssa Rivera, Samantha Show and Shelbi Sunseri. 8. Did you post in the baseball forum, or are you referring to the softball game @ Huntsville on the 14th ? Seems many are having to go StubHub.
  9. Sinton's Blake Mitchell, highly rated HS prospect. '23 grad, committed to LSU if he doesn't go pro. Current ('22) photo of Adrian Alaniz. Staying in shape. Will be 39 on 12 March. 10. Blake Mitchell Catcher, Sinton Mitchell is a do-it-all player and the epitome of a high school star. On the mound, he's been up to 97 with a promising slider. Some think he's got a home on the mound. But his actions behind the plate have many believing he's a prototype backstop of the future. Mitchell, a left-handed hitting thumper, has significant raw power and feel for driving the baseball without selling out for the juice. He can get pull-happy, but has shown a willingness to use the left-center field gap. Behind the plate, Mitchell has plus arm strength with upper-tier athleticism for the position. His receiving skills are impressive considering his age. Mitchell has some similarities to Tyler Soderstrom from 2020 with more pure ability behind the plate at this same stage https://www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2022/1/15/2023-mlb-draft-prospects-38awn
  10. Quotes: "At the end of the day, you walk two guys and had to groove a pitch and that's the bottom line," UT coach David Pierce said. "So we didn't make them earn the three runs in the ninth." So, it is too early to start asking if Johnson could contend for a spot in UT's weekend rotation? "No, it's not too early to say that," Pierce said. "It's electric. It's real stuff. That's Friday night stuff for anybody in the country. I think for him it's just repeatability and being able to just feel more and more comfort." Down by three runs, Texas was retired in order in the ninth inning. Facing LSU hurlers Thatcher Hurd, Nate Ackenhausen and Christian Little, a trio that Pierce said could be "very potentially a big league staff," Texas mustered four hits on Tuesday. https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/baseball/2023/02/28/lsu-bests-texas-in-ninth-inning-of-tight-baseball-game/69956279007/
  11. I just think there is a learning curve for both Pierce and Woody. I am sure your points are correct.
  12. Championship level baseball - Hurd (their starter) had a 1.06 era with 48K's in 34 innings last year at UCLA - Ackenhausen (reliever) had an era of under 2 while at juco (E. Okla). Don't care what level, era under 2.00... - LSU was hitting .328 before this game (though weaker teams) but limited to 4 hits - Hope Pierce develops full confidence in Woody and gives him control of staff tl;dr: Relax
  13. I thought Atwood played well at 1B in Clearwater, since it has been mostly Day. She is tall, had good footwork, and probably an edge on Day with athleticism. I agree with @bschoolprof on her performance thus far at catcher. Seems to be not concentrating resulting in balls passing that can be blocked. Position stability is not a staple with Mike White, doubt it will ever be. Offense first or so it seems. But he is overall successful. But even in the outfield, would help with players playing same position even though they may rotate. I really hope MW is working with Day in the circle. When we get to a tournament setting, always good to have a 5th pitcher if nothing more than to "eat" some innings.

Well he should know, or is just trying to motivate this year's team. I do know he lost Claunch (catcher) Ore St transfer and Dylan Rock (OF, UTSA transfer) two very experienced players who were key last year. I did a cursory lineup review and seemed the outfield was different. Check the below site if you prefer a stream vs radio. Also has radio links. https://therealstreamhub.site/forumdisplay.php?fid=16

Watched the last 3 innings on a stream. Portland played relaxed and with alot of energy. West Coast team. Very early, but aggy lost alot from last year. Entire outfield including Dylan Rock, our nemesis, catcher (Claunch) and I think their shortstop, maybe others. They still haven't solved their bullpen issues, but again very early.
  16. Vote to move on from Kash, but one hopefully final thought. Most likely other reasons than playing time for his departure which have to be left for speculation. As mentioned, he left the team early. Wanted an early start at Summer ball at Santa Barabara (SB) where he hit .320 with 9 HRs in 32 games. No matter how dismal he looked here, you could tell it was there. There were 4 players from Tech on the SB roster, no idea if that influenced his decision to select Tech as his transfer destination. He did not announce till late June. May be wrong (as often the case) but I am a Jared Thomas fan. Think he can be a good one. Needs reps, strength, and weight. Hesitate to mention, but Aaron Nixon walked one and K'd the side in his first appearance for Miss St (VMI). Like Kash, we need to move on. 😊☺️☺️
  17. Disappointed in no West Coast trips since Mary Nutter and UCLA in '20 (iirc). Are Mary Nutter, Judi Garman, Puerto Vallarta invitation only, rotational, or can teams invite themselves ? Perhaps we will start a series with former asst coach Megan Bartlett and Ariz St. They are 8-2 primarily against weaker competition. She has a good staff in Jimmy Kolaitis and Jeremy Manley (former NZ pitcher like Mike White).
  18. Pierce's quotes. We'll see. Baseball is alot about confidence and repetition. Note that the Tuesday game will start at 5PM. "Going to test our toughness, our grit," Pierce said. "(We'll) gather the information and go from there." Pierce said he didn't make those defensive changes Sunday because of the Saturday setback. "I'm not even upset with the (four) guys I replaced in the infield," said Pierce, who added that he had never swapped out all four starters in the infield before. "I just still feel like that we're not cut and dry in some positions," Pierce said. "And, you know, the young guys had a hard time of it today. Very obvious, there's no doubt. That tells us a lot, but it also should fire up the guys that had to sit today. "You hate to give up a game because of it, but at the same time, you're looking at a bigger picture from this weekend. We've got to get their attention and get their attention to our details." "The (second) inning shouldn't have happened, we all understand that. The one thing I'll say is it's a tough thing trying to get seven outs," Pierce said. "But probably his worst pitch was an up-and-out slider on the grand slam." https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/baseball/2023/02/19/vanderbilt-keeps-texas-longhorns-winless-in-2023-baseball-season/69920732007/
  19. The optimist in me (and twilight zone thinking) wonders if Pierce prioritized experience for the staff vs the win. If solely going for the win, seems he likely would have left Shaw in longer and sent Stuart out for the 9th vs Walbridge with very limited appearances. As TwiceHorn mentions above, this tournament is not concrete to the end result.
  20. I hope you are correct and he is wrong. Quote: Everything is the same as last year with Flosports. UGH... Replays should be available by fireovid upon request. There's a minuscule chance we might get a "link w" stream, but I'm not hopeful. There's a better chance for some rando youtube stream, but not by much. Radio is going to be our friend with most of Flo tourneys I'm afraid. But we'll see!

  22. Have a friend who is “in the know” and says chances are very slim for FloSports illegal stream.
  23. Welcome to the jungle (forum) ! Hurley's issue at USC was walks which Pierce detests. iirc, he walked in a run in the Alumni game and had 2-3 walks. Not really uncommon for a 6'8" pitcher who needs to master his delivery. Bullpen has a "goldmine" of talent. Just needs development. We are countin' on you Woody ! (realize development is said every year)
  24. Nice comments. So everyone has to sit in the outfield bleachers if you don't have a season ticket ? Can't believe they sold all season tickets. Did not attend, but most positive thing I saw on TV was Gutierrez getting 7 ground outs on 13 batters faced. Keep the ball in the ballpark. Personal opinion (which struggles to hit .200) but I think Simpson's challenge is mental. She has the pitch repertoire, just needs to concentrate and relax. I think she may be intimidated by MW. Omaha may be a good test this weekend. They are 5-0 with wins over Iowa St and Northern Iowa (good program), 32-14 last year.
  25. Embarassing game on so many levels. 6 more ranked teams at this point. Morgan is an excellent pitcher, but not an overpowering strikeout pitcher, nor or the others. Defense needs to step up.
