  1. Per LHN sched, replay of press conf today at 4PM, 1030PM, and 830AM Wed. Not yet on YouTube, TexasSports.
  2. Can't find a listing at this time. Previously, Rice games were streamed on Owl Vision, normally would have to pay. We have a poster here with the Owl Vision user name or similar, perhaps he will see thread and opine. Here you go, my friend. Rice is picked 5th in Conference USA. Not yet the luster of the great Augie/Wayne battles. Jose Cruz (Astros) son is their SS. Two teams searching for consistency. 5. Rice (26-33, 14-16) Rice’s first season under coach Matt Bragga looked a lot like the program’s last under Wayne Graham, right down to having the same number of wins - 26. The Owls are still clearly several steps back from where they were at their peak, but there’s enough impressive talent in place this season that you might start to see the rebuild under Bragga taking shape . On offense, Cruz is a fantastic centerpiece to begin with, junior catcher Justin Collins (.260/.387/.425) is a star in his own right and seniors in second baseman Cade Edwards (.308/.360/.498), third baseman Braden Comeaux (.299/.388/.421) and right fielder Bradley Gneiting (.295/.366/.378) give the lineup length. Add in junior college transfers in first baseman Austin Bulman, left fielder Daniel Hernandez and DH Brayden Combs, who began his career at Kentucky, all of whom have great offensive track records, and you have the makings of the best Rice offense in quite some time. The Owls’ pitching staff is long on talent, but short on experience. Hard-throwing senior righthander Roel Garcia has been in the program going on four years, but due to missing all of last season with injury, he hasn’t yet had a chance to prove himself in the rotation full-time. The fact that he was still drafted in the 27th round at the end of last season speaks to his talent level, however. Saturday starter Alex DeLeon transferred in from junior college power McLennan (Texas) JC after two productive seasons there. Sophomore righthander Dalton Wood (4.23, 27.2 IP) will round out the rotation after pitching in relief a season ago. One pitcher to watch in the bullpen is junior college transfer righthander Jack Conlon, who has taken a circuitous route to get to Rice. An unsigned fourth-round pick in 2017, Conlon began his career at Texas A&M and then stopped over at San Jacinto (Texas) JC last season before arriving in Houston. His talent is impressive and could help him become a huge weapon for the Owls if he can stay healthy and put it all together . Expectations should not be that Rice will return to its status as a national power in 2020, but if things click, a postseason appearance is certainly on the table. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2020-conference-usa-college-baseball-preview/
  3. Good observation. Texas coach Mike White said junior catcher Taylor Ellsworth, who was one of three Longhorns who didn’t play on Sunday, is day-to-day with a knee injury. https://www.hookem.com/2020/02/09/no-6-texas-closes-successful-first-weekend-another-run-ruled-rout/ (Slack and London Marder, Freshman catcher, were the other two who did not play)
  4. Super ! Singleton was interviewed during the Wichita St game. Spoke of his approach to hitting instruction emphasizing individual approach and utilizing analytical software like Rapsodo and Blast. A very, very sharp individual - props to MW for the hire, hope he can keep him. TwiceHorn at times refers to the analytical software in the baseball forum. Augie and Connie apparently did not embrace its use or did not have latest tech. Though the competition was less than stellar, as bschoolprof indicates you can see the aggressiveness at the plate and the swing mechanics. Attack the ball ! Thoughts (take with grain of salt) - Defense looked great. 3 errors in 6 games Parker(2) Slack(1). Perhaps reason for Janae starting at SS today. Slack did look better going to her left, Parker has the talent, but it may be a confidence factor. Tedder played 2B today, played 2B in travel ball per Spencer interview. - Ellsworth only caught game 1, did not even PH for the rest of the series. Had 2 PB in game 1, not experienced with Elish. Perhaps injury or doghouse ? Ellsworth is a very quiet person, perhaps MW wants more vocal person at catcher. After only limited view of Sullivan, I think Ellsworth has the better arm but since her previous injury maybe not the bat. - Really hope Iakopo continues to catch Elish. Too much chemistry between the two to negate. (Cat/Megan, Blaire/Amy) - Day is really good everywhere. Seems to be in front for 3rd starter after more game experience. - Disappointed that Grace Green did not do well. (5 walks) - Kailee Cuoco, Volunteer Asst, was not in the dugout ? Still on roster. - Great start to the season, bright future.
  5. Normally, you will be questioned by the attorneys during the empanelling process concerning your knowledge of the case.
  6. https://www.traviscountytx.gov/district-clerk/jury-duty/faq If Travis Cty, check the above. If different county, google. You have eliminated yourself by doing research if you are selected for that particular case. (if you are not joking about the research)
  7. Any idea of his salary ? Luv Cameron and I hope he makes wise decisions on his future.
  8. Did anyone see the Colo St/A&M CC game this AM ? Colo St won 1-0. Our game with Colo St at 2PM Sat may be the only challenge, These games look like Fall softball. Unfortunately, the future home tournaments (Texas Invitational and Longhorn Invitational) may be the same.
  9. Excellent points all. May I add that it was reported that Perrin heavily relied on the input of Don Reese, fellow BMD, on the Pierce hire. I would hope that he also received input from former players and others but do not think that was the case. Tim Corbin, Vanderbilt, reportedly was interested but had just lost a player to an accidental drowning and could not leave under those circumstances. Having an interim AD, following a legend, and inheriting needed upgrades may have affected others like Kevin O'Sullivan (Florida) and Pat Casey (Oregon St). But the significant mistake by Perrin, imo, was not informally screening for viable candidates prior to releasing Augie. Augie had only 1 year left on his contract and it was known in March/April a change was needed. Hopefully, CDC keeps in mind future coaches for vacant positions. He did well on the Track hire, Coach Floreal.
  10. Brewster was making 400K prior to the raise. Well travelled coach. Just a month or so ago Brewster entertained a job offer from Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M and instead got a raise from North Carolina to stay. https://keepingitheel.com/2020/02/06/unc-football-tim-brewster-leaves-tar-heels-florida-job/
  11. Others may have more talent, skill, power, etc, but luv the way Lauren Burke plays the game. Not too high, not too low, steady.
  12. Any idea why he is leaving Mack ?
  13. I had Sec 3 tickets and dropped them mainly because of Patterson - now have regrets. Keep them one more year and sell the ones you don't want to attend. See how that works. "Bama comes to town in 2022.
  14. That is a concern when you change catchers. Ellsworth not accustomed to game time action with Elish. May be also affecting Elish. Iakopo has caught Elish for most, if not all, of her career if not mistaken. @bschool prof -- do you recall who caught the most during the Fall ? Was Ellsworth still recovering from injury. I know Sullivan caught some, correct ?
  15. Tantric and I have almost identical numbers - good except LDL is over 100. As discussed, the factors that require concern of LDL over 100 are age, cardiovascular health, family history, etc. LDL level from 100-129 is acceptable for people with no family history of CAD or health concerns. I debated with my physician before accepting his advice to take a statin (Lipitor). Each case differs, but my recommendation is to heed your physician's advice. We are not getting any younger, and watching these Longhorns the past few years does not help. 😊
  16. Excerpt from a lengthy article. Fans should notice a few changes around McCombs Field when Texas opens its softball season on Thursday. The installation of a new 24-by-42 feet wide videoboard has been completed. The ongoing construction of the program’s player development facility will cause some chaos and confusion, and because of the construction, the Longhorns will use the first-base dugout and share a bullpen this season. On the field, star pitcher Miranda Elish will wear a mask after a “freak accident” cut short her junior season. There are five new freshmen on the roster, a new hitting coach and UCLA transfer Colleen Sullivan, who plays catcher and first base. Former catcher Mary Iakopo, who caught every pitch last season, will start at third base when Texas opens against Wichita State on Thursday in the Texas Classic. https://www.hookem.com/story/texas-opens-its-2020-softball-season-with-a-no-6-ranking-and-a-world-series-goal/
  17. LHN schedule states Texas Press Conf today at 1:30. Anyone heard different ?
  18. Need Stehly to be solid this year. May start at 3B to begin the season, played SS at OCC, hit .374, but does not appear to have the HR power Pierce covets. Texas junior infielder Murphy Stehly will honor his former coach by wearing the No. 14 throughout the 2020 baseball season. That number belonged to John Altobelli, the longtime head coach at Orange Coast College. Altobelli and NBA legend Kobe Bryant were two of the nine people killed in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26. Altobelli coached Stehly over the past two seasons. He was also teammates with Texas coach David Pierce at the University of Houston. At Texas, the No. 14 had been assigned to freshman pitcher Will Swope. At a team meeting on Tuesday, Swope handed off the jersey to Stehly. Swope will instead wear the No. 10 that was originally given to Stehly. https://www.hookem.com/2020/02/04/texas-murphy-stehly-to-wear-no-14-as-a-tribute-to-former-coach-john-altobelli/ AS A SOPHOMORE (ORANGE COAST COLLEGE) Orange Coast College's leading hitter as a sophomore in 2019, batting .374 with 41 RBI and 34 runs scored…led the Pirates with 17 doubles and 11 stolen bases…helped lead Orange Coast to the 2019 California Community College Baseball State Championship. AS A FRESHMAN (ORANGE COAST COLLEGE) Batted .328 in 39 games played during freshman season…hit nine doubles, three triples and two homers…stole a team-high 16 bases as a freshman. https://texassports.com/sports/baseball/roster/murphy-stehly/9326
  19. Twice is correct based on my experience, especially the genes. Age, family history, etc are factors. Similar circumstances, good exercise program, overall good diet but LDL was 110, goal is -100. Asked doctor if I could try diet and he said, "Sure, but difficult and likely will not reduce LDL." Also, family history and age were factors. Take .20mg Lipitor, works great, no side effects.
  20. 😊 Zubia Had a Charlie Strong moment "We call him Zach"

  22. Just a guess. (not necessarily batting order) Others welcome to opine. LF Kennedy CF Ellis 2B Ford 1B Zuniga DH Bertelson/Peter/Ardoin/Hodo (loss of Geib (season) and Duplantier (temp) hurts) C Petrinsky RF Todd SS Faltine 3B Stehly/Bertelson P Elder (Fri) Madden/Cobb (Sat) Sun (Cobb/Quintanilla/Kubichek) Closer (Fields/Diaz/Kubichek) LHP Burbank who had a great summer and freshmen need to contribute. (You guys go easy on my man Kamron at closer this year. 😊 Hoping Huston can give him confidence and slow his tempo. May be drafted fairly high. Family may want him to stay in school) Keep the following quote from Pierce in mind as we progess thru the season. Pierce said the Longhorns will get into their regular-season routine Tuesday. Ahead of the season-opening trip to Rice, Pierce said he wants to refine the team’s pitching, get the young players ready for chaotic situations and slow down the batters’ approach at the plate. “If we can accomplish those things, I think we can grow daily,” Pierce said. https://www.hookem.com/story/with-its-past-in-town-texas-looks-ahead-to-its-future-at-third-base/
  23. Last season, Texas was represented in the major leagues by a half-dozen of its former baseball players. Mark Payton was not among those Texas Exes in the majors. An outfielder, Payton instead hit .334 with 30 homers over 118 games with Oakland’s Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas. Since 2017, Payton has played in 260 Triple-A games in the farm systems belonging to Oakland and the New York Yankees. This spring, Payton has his best shot at making a major league roster. Payton was acquired by Cincinnati in the Rule 5 Draft in December. Due to where the 28-year-old Payton was selected, the Reds must keep him on their 26-man roster for the entire 2020 season or he will be offered back to Oakland. “We think, given his level of success on the Triple-A level, he’s ready to ultimately compete for that type of role on our big league club,” Rob Coughlin, the Reds’ pro scouting director, told the Cincinnati Enquirer. Payton was among the professionals who appeared at Texas’ alumni game on Saturday. He told reporters that while an extended stay in Triple-A had been frustrating, he was ready for this upcoming opportunity. The Reds currently have 10 outfielders on their 40-man roster. “They took a chance so I’ve got to go out and play good in spring training and earn the spot that they gave me on their roster,” Payton said. Payton was a three-time all-conference honoree at Texas who twice led the Longhorns to the College World Series. Payton reached base safely in 101 consecutive games between the 2013-14 seasons and that remains an NCAA record. He was taken by the Yankees in the seventh round of the 2014 MLB Draft. Catching on: Former Texas catcher Tres Barrera made his MLB debut during the 2019 season. And since he was a member of the Washington Nationals, Barrera will receive a World Series ring as a welcome gift. Barrera appeared in two late-season games for the Nationals. He wasn’t active for any of the team’s postseason contests. “I was extremely grateful for the organization for letting me be around in the playoffs,” Barrera said. “I wasn’t active, but I gained a lot of knowledge of what playoff baseball’s all about, what winning’s all about (from) a great group of veteran guys.” Barrera said he wants to be a contributor this upcoming season and added that last year’s postseason experience “sparked a little fire from within.” Barrera is joined on the Nationals’ 40-man roster by veteran catchers Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki. Raudy Read, who has 22 at-bats in his career, is also on the 40-man roster. Ex-UT pitchers typically don’t throw in the program’s alumni game, and Texas head coach David Pierce said that is unlikely to change anytime soon because of professional contracts. Former Texas ace Nolan Kingham, though, found a way onto the field on Saturday. A 12th-round pick by Atlanta in 2018, Kingham went 7-12 with a 3.52 ERA for three of the Braves’ affiliates last season. At UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Saturday, Kingham said he hopes to begin this year in Double-A. https://www.hookem.com/story/texas-alumni-game-notebook-ex-longhorns-mark-payton-tres-barrera-eye-mlb-roles/
  24. Email. Anyone familiar if the construction affects parking on the streets adjacent to McCombs ? Thanks ! This season we will debut our new videoboard and we're excited to share this with you. Outfield bleachers will be available later in the season for additional seating for high demand games. If you purchased a season parking pass, your pass is good for the surrounding surface lots, in addition to the East Campus Garage. Construction Changes and Updates Due to construction, dugouts for the teams have been switched. We anticipate this being the case only for this season. Gate 1 will be closed all season. The only entrance to the stadium this year will be along the first base ramp. Due to construction around the stadium, consider arriving earlier due to additional road congestion.
