  1. Checked the past boxscores. Louisiana hit .368 for the LLWS. Congrats to Louisiana. Should note the Louisiana (Eastbank, same area) softball team lost in the championship game of the softball LLWS in Portland. Quite a youth sports program they have in NOLA. ,
  2. Tackling is atrocious. Any question about physical practices ?
  3. Astute observation. Cursory check of the rosters shows only the Louisiana and Hawaii teams do not have a parent on the coaching staff. Not that is the be-all/end-all, but...
  4. One of Gus' first recruits - key in getting things started. LUBBOCK, Texas – Former Texas Baseball standout Dave Chalk will be inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in November in Baton Rouge, La., the hall announced Thursday. This year's class will be inducted as a part of the College Baseball Night of Champions celebration Nov. 1-2 in Baton Rouge, La. Chalk was a three-time All-American and four-time All-Southwest Conference performer at Texas from 1969-72. Chalk posted a career batting average of .362, a school record at the time, and hit a career-best .405 in 1971. He led the Longhorns to four Southwest Conference championships and three College World Series appearances, being named to the All-CWS team in 1972. Following his stellar career at Texas, Chalk spent nine years in Major League Baseball with the California Angels, Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals. Chalk was a two-time All-Star and played in the 1980 World Series with the Royals. Chalk was inducted into the Texas Hall of Honor in 1983 and the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002. https://texassports.com/news/2019/8/22/chalk-named-to-national-college-baseball-hall-of-fame.aspx
  5. Not a good eval by the staff. Recruited from juco (WKU) for infield depth, had to sit out 2018 due to transfer rules. Apparently did not have talent for much playing time in 2019. His athletic career lost 2 years. Hopefully, he will find a spot with a Cali team, his home. Best of luck to him.

  7. Seems they were playing too tight, especially the pitchers. With due respect to their coach for an outstanding season, he does not seem the type that getting a team to relax is his forte. But congrats to Louisiana for repping the SW Region in the USA Finals.
  8. Solid advice from the Skipper. My overall cholesterol was under 200 but prescribed lipitor due to LDL being 110 (goal is to be -100). No issues with Lipitor. With a reading of 291 would be best to see a cardiologist for an evaluation. I am sure you have been told, let diet and exercise become friends.
  9. Let Huston give the pregame speech.

  11. Stephen Ross, savvy media writer at BC, opines. Charter Communications and Disney have put together a distribution deal that gives the ACC Network a nice cushion to start with — and could cause ripples of change when realignment come back around mid-decade. The Deal means that when the ACC net signs on next week it will be on Charter ( Spectrum), DirecTV, Verizon Fios, Google Fiber, TVision, Optimum and Suddenlink. Over 40% of Charter’s footprint overlaps with ACC markets. That leaves Comcast and AT&T U-verse as the biggest cable hold outs. Just as important -- if not moreso -- the network will also be available on such streaming services as YouTube TV, Hulu Live TV and PlayStation Vue, The deal also calls for the distribution of Disney-owned streaming outlets Disney+, ESPN+ and HULU. That means the potential of offering the streaming of live sports event or sports networks through your cable box. Disney is looking to have 90 million Disney+ subscribers by 2024 - or just about the time of the next round of realignment. To get to that number Disney is going to have to build more distribution partnerships in the near future. As for how it effects the next round of media negotiations — if you think the ACC is not a viable option for Texas in the future think again. If nothing else they are excellent leverage for the administration in upcoming talks. https://www.barkingcarnival.com/2019/8/14/20806118/disney-gets-acc-network-on-spectrum
  12. No excuse for ucw, but... (excerpts) When Texas Longhorns freshman wide receiver Joshua Moore stretched his arms in the end zone for a 27-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger early in the third quarter against the USC Trojans to extend a two-point lead, he was focused on the football, but still carrying a scar that he says will never heal. That’s because his older brother, Quintin, committed suicide more than five years ago. The 6’1, 170-pounder can’t visit the cemetery before games like he did at Yoakum, but scoring a touchdown in his third collegiate game was surely a suitable substitute for Moore “I go to bed thinking about him,” Joshua said. “I wake up thinking about him. What can I do to make him proud of me? I approach every single day as he’s still here. At the end of the day, I shake his hand and he tells me, ‘Good job. Moore still wears a necklace with a silver letter “Q” on it that he never takes off. During the spring, he was already thinking about honoring his brother on the football field at Texas. https://www.burntorangenation.com/2018/9/17/17871870/joshua-moore-texas-longhorns-touchdown-late-brother-dedication-suicide
  13. As Twice states, parting out may be best option especially for the new wheels and tires. But do research, don't give it away. Wranglers are popular and hold their value very well.

  15. Mentioned the below in previous post. Very sad ! The manager is correct - very evident when watching game. Barrington (Rhode Island) Little League, the New England Region's representative in the Little League World Series, is accused of stealing signs to help get to the pinnacle of the sport in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Pat Dutton, the manager of the team from Goffstown, New Hampshire, which lost to Barrington in Saturday's region final, made the accusation after the game in Bristol, Connecticut. "You can see [runners on second base] leaning in, looking in and they're doing hand gestures to their kid [at the plate] indicating what kind of pitch it is and where it's located," Dutton told the New Hampshire Union Leader. "You can do that in big league ball, but in Little League it's unsportsmanlike, it's dishonorable and it's disgusting. "They did it the whole tournament and got away with it, and now that's what's representing New England in the Little League World Series. It's just a bad look." Little League International issued a statement Wednesday saying it had "full confidence" in the umpires and tournament officials at the New England Region and that it "considers this issue closed." Barrington Little League issued a statement to Boston.com on Tuesday, calling the allegations "unfortunate" while denying any sort of wrongdoing. "We hold our coaches, players and teams to the highest standards," the Barrington statement said, "and do not coach or condone unsportsmanlike behavior of any kind." Dutton told the Union Leader that he suspected the Barrington team of stealing signs during Goffstown's 2-1 win on Thursday and alerted the umpire, just as he did during Saturday's game. Dutton said warnings were issued to Barrington's manager and a player on the next pitch after Saturday's complaint. "That's something these kids don't learn on their own. That's something that they're taught," Dutton told the newspaper. "They're coached to do that. Obviously the team condones it, they coach it, and, personally, that's something that I'm completely against. Little League is supposedly against it, but you wouldn't know it this week." While it is a frowned-upon practice and one of baseball's unwritten rules at higher levels, it is prohibited at the Little League level, with players and coaches being subject to ejection from the game. "It is under the judgement of the umpire to decide if unsportsmanlike behavior, including stealing or relaying signs, has taken place," the statement by Little League International said. "If so, the penalty is ejection and a one-game suspension for those involved." Little League International said it has stressed "the importance of adherence to all rules and regulations" to all teams at the Little League World Series in Williamsport. Barrington opens the Little League World Series against the Southeast Region champs from South Riding, Virginia, on Thursday (ESPN, 3 p.m. ET). https://www.espn.com/llws/story/_/id/27385397/manager-accuses-llws-team-stealing-signs

  17. This summer, Texas sent a handful of its players to participate in various collegiate wood bat leagues across the country. The pitchers recorded some of UT’s biggest highlights over the past few months. Kolby Kubichek and Dawson Merryman were named all-stars in the Cape Cod League. Mason Bryant also threw in a showcase that was put on by the Northwoods League while Cole Quintanilla was invited to the California Collegiate League’s prospects game. Off the mound, Eric Kennedy emerged as one of the best hitters in the California Collegiate League. https://www.hookem.com/2019/08/12/summer-sessions-update-longhorns-playing-collegiate-wood-bat-leagues-3/ Summertime at Texas: Update 7 Summer Team League Statistics OF Eric Kennedy Santa Barbara California .355 (54-152), 22 RBI, 32 R, 24 SB, 2 CS INF Lance Ford Duluth Northwoods .240 (40-167), 19 RBI, 25 R, 8 2B OF Duke Ellis Cotuit/Brewster Cape Cod .218 (17-78), 17 R, 4 RBI INF Tanner Haney Victoria West Coast .271 (32-118), 14 RBI, 19 R, 6 2B RHP Kolby Kubichek Chatham Cape Cod 30.0 IP, 0.90 ERA, 34 K, 9 BB, 16 H RHP Ty Madden Chatham Cape Cod 27.0 IP, 3.33 ERA, 28 K, 14 BB, 24 H RHP Dawson Merryman Chatham Cape Cod 15.1 IP, 3.52 ERA, 15 K, 9 BB, 15 H, 4 saves LHP Thomas Burbank Gaithersburg Cal Ripken 35.0 IP, 5.14 ERA, 39 K, 10 BB, 35 H RHP Cole Quintanilla Santa Barbara California 19.1 IP, 6.98 ERA, 21 K, 10 BB, 23 H RHP Mason Bryant Duluth Northwoods 29.2 IP, 6.37 ERA, 44 K, 29 BB, 29 H RHP Owen Meaney Duluth Northwoods 29.0 IP, 5.89 ERA, 41 K, 32 BB, 24 H
  18. Woden HS is a 3A school in Nacogdoches County. Though from a small school, PG review and video look promising. (Taylor is the second pitcher to decommit from SHSU, the first was an excellent prospect from the Houston area. Not a good sign since they promoted the pitching coach to head coach) Reid Taylor has decided that he’ll wear burnt — not bright — orange in college. Taylor announced on Sunday that he has given the baseball team at Texas a verbal commitment. A 6-2 right-handed pitcher, Taylor currently attends Woden High in East Texas. Taylor had originally committed to Sam Houston State. https://www.hookem.com/2019/08/11/sam-houston-states-loss-is-texas-gain-as-ut-adds-a-pitcher-to-its-2020-recruiting-class/ Reid Taylor is a 2020 RHP/3B with a 6-2 205 lb. frame from Woden, TX who attends Woden. Strong and thick build, pretty mature physically. Crossfire delivery with an over the top arm slot, short stride out front, throws against himself but it works well for him and he repeats his mechanics and release point very well. Fastball topped out at 90 mph, creates plane and big running action on his fastball, works mostly to the arm side with his fastball. Hard downer curveball, can take off it a bit with bigger 11/5 shape at times. Change up mimics his fastball well. Tunnels all three pitches very well and can sequence them. Should have immediate success at the next level based on this outing, very polished and has deception and strike throwing ability. Good student, verbal commitment to Sam Houston State. https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Playerprofile.aspx?ID=488058

    USA Softball

US 3 Canada 1 US wins PanAm Gold. Defeated PR earlier 3-1. Monica Abbott pitched both games (14 inn). Unusual, possible player illness ? They have 4 other pitchers, one being Keilani Ricketts.

Canada 3 US 2 Cat took the loss, 3 runs, 6 hits in 3.1 innings. vs PR today, winner plays Canada for championship, also today.
  21. Watching the RI/NH game, RI runner on 2B was stealing the signs and pointing for the batter to the pitch location where catcher was sitting. NH coach called time and ump warned RI coach. Wow ! Anyone ever experienced similar ?
  22. You likely will have to pay the fine, but I would argue that the parking sign is too close to the stop sign. May be interferring with view of the stop sign as well as creating confusion and being misplaced.
  23. Louisiana (Eastbank) 6 Texas (Midland) 2 3-2 game until bottom of 5th when La scored 3. Well played game, no errors for either team. First trip for a Louisiana team since 2011, per wiki. Eastbank LL is from River Ridge, La, suburb of NO. Should note the Eastbank softball team also made it to the LLWS which began today in Portland, Or. Not sure how their leagues are composed in the NO Metro Area, but Eastbank may continue to be a prominent team
  24. 😊 Thx for the correction. Never in my wildest would have thought they would have 12PM start. Won't ruin it for others in case they also did not check schedule.
