  2. Should have clarified, for those that do not have ESPN+. OU 2/Mizzou 1, 4th inn, , Uverse 1751 FSNOK. Juarez has gained alot of weight.
  3. The finish of game one will not be streamed live or air on a TV network. Live stats will be available to follow at LSUStats.com. https://lsusports.net/news/2021/3/5/softballs-friday-game-with-texas-halted-due-to-rain.aspx. DH to follow will be on SEC+. Q&A about SEC+. Perhaps someone can find/post a stream to simplify. @shadow_operative2.0 @Machinator🙂 https://www.secsports.com/article/23926730/about-sec-network+
  4. Too early to tell. Texas St normally a competitive game. UH took 3/4 from aggy corpus, 2 were 1 run games. SCarolina picked 4th in SEC East behind Florida, Vandy, Tenn (strong division). All teams seem to be playing at least 2 midweek games meaning pitching will be stretched. Texas St and UH games are scheduled for ESPN+. ESPN+ has alot of college baseball games this year. Worth the $5.99 per month. https://www.espn.com/espnplus/schedule/_/type/upcoming/channel/ESPN_PLUS/startDate/20210303
  5. Good call Pato ! Pierce agrees. After the game, Pierce blamed himself for the bullpen's implosion. Pierce said that instead of playing the matchups, he should have immediately gone to Witt. "We've got to make a better choice right there," Pierce said. "It's probably my fault for putting them in that situation." A week ago against Arkansas, Stevens was again solid before running into trouble in the sixth inning. Ahead of this season, none of Stevens' 33 appearances at Texas had lasted more than 2.1 innings. "I don't think it's a concern yet, I truly don't," Pierce said of his starter's sixth-inning shortcomings. "Again, we get to know that maybe his tops is 85, 90 pitches and he can still eat up a lot of innings because he's such a good strike thrower. That's information as well." https://www.hookem.com/story/sports/baseball/2021/02/27/baseball-bullpen-decisions-cost-texas-series-finale-against-byu/6854832002/ Witt has nothing else to prove. Hope he is not overused. Also, no need to DH, too valuable as a pitcher. Seems to be the ideal closer. Besides outstanding "stuff", has that J Brent Cox/Huston Street attitude. Wenzel can handle mid relief.
  6. Only 4 games, very early, but you can see the void left by Elish. Thus far team does not seem to be playing with the intensity and focus that Elish brought to the whole team. Her enthusiasm, focus, and drive to be the best will be missed by the entire team. Results in errors and other mistakes. As they say, a superstar (Elish) makes everyone better. Jefferson, Rhodes, Burke, and Iakopo are stars in their own right, but like many they just don't have that "let's go" leadership personality. That said, Covid protocol affected the team. They are really just getting to know each other.
  7. True. 3 SF, 2 SH, and 5 errors by BYU helps the cause. "It is not about hits, it is about runs".... Augie 🙂
  8. Did Huston opt out as a volunteer asst this year due to Covid ? Not listed on roster. I may have missed the news. Saw Tulo talking to Kennedy before an AB last night. Bio says he works with hitters and infielders.
  9. Pierce's quotes below. jmo, but Pierce seems to favor power hitting, thus the long swings he mentions below. And this is why he moved in the fences at DFF. He seems to recruit for power. May be successful until you face quality pitching. Then adjustments need to be made like shortening the swing to make contact. That was the concerning thing, after 18K's on Sat, the trend continued without adjustments. Note that we were last in the B12 in hitting for '17 (.252) and '19 (.250) and 6th in '18 (.271). We were 8th (.256) last year. https://big12sports.com/news/2008/7/16/1513506.aspx tl:dr: They may be trying to hit a home run every at bat. "Hitting and scoring kind of comes and goes, but approach has to be better," Texas coach David Pierce said. "I think we have some length in our swing that's probably caused by some tension and I think we have faced really good, quality pitching out of the gate. You combine those three things together and it's kind of a nightmare for us right now." https://www.hookem.com/story/sports/baseball/2021/02/21/baseball-strikeouts-issue-texas-arkansas-bests-its-old-foe/4536956001/ "I got a lot of information from this tournament," Texas coach David Pierce said. "I think that's good for us." "Did we play well? No. Was Arlington an incredible field and kicked our butts? Yes," Pierce said. "We just look at it like that. We're not going to feel sorry for ourselves and I can't wait until we play again." https://www.hookem.com/story/sports/baseball/2021/02/22/baseball-beaten-ole-miss-texas-off-worst-start-since-2006/4549308001/

    Appreciate your updates !
  11. Zubia was an All State 3B in high school. Pierce seems to value offense over defense, jmo. Meaning there may be someone on the roster (Petrinsky, Geib) who may be slightly better defensively, but Pierce values Zubia's power. I know Zubia has worked very hard on the transition to 1B, lost weight, and am sure he works with Tulo to improve. Team effort, infielders need to make good throws, 1B needs to cover for them. When Kacy was in a hitting slump, Augie left him in the lineup "because he makes the team better." tl;dr: Let's give Zubia a coupla' more games before we erect the cross to crucify him. 🙂
  12. Arlington update and AAS interview with Zubia (excerpts). https://twitter.com/KendallRogers/status/1362438069400580103 (can't get to embed) How ready is this team to get back on the field? I think that this team is probably the most prepared team that I've been on since I've been here. This team is full of maturity, it's full of dedication, it's just full of hard work. I think that's also a credit to our coaching staff and our staff in general. We've done a really good job with the COVID-19 world that we're living in right now. I think it's a really focused, a really driven and a really motivated team to win. I'm very excited to see what shows out (in the season opener). How is balancing your master's program for marketing with baseball? I get my master's in marketing from McCombs so it's the best of both worlds for me. You get to play at the highest level in sports and you get some of the best academics in the country so you can't beat that. Of the new guys on the team or the young guys who had smaller roles last season, who is going to take that next step? One of the guys that really sticks out to me is (second-year catcher) Silas Ardoin. The kid's work ethic is unmatched. He's always looking at ways to get better and he's always asking the older guys questions. He's always asking DJ about how to get better. He's always hanging out with DJ on what he does catching-wise and then he's always asking guys what they're looking for hitting-wise. He's taken a step in a very mature direction this year. It's gonna be really exciting to see him get to play a lot this year. Then another guy, I mean he's an incoming guy, is Mike (Antico). Mike's a whole new player. I'm really glad we got him and no one else did because he's gonna be really, really helpful to our team this year. I think that he is someone that can really wreak havoc on a lot of teams this year. What are this team's strengths? We're going to be able to score in multiple ways on offense. I think that's one of the biggest things for us, is that we have speed, we've always had speed, but we have power this year, we have guys who can handle the bat really well... Our pitching is gonna be really good, too. We've got a lot of guys that can come out of pen. We've got a lot of guys who can start,,, https://www.hookem.com/story/sports/baseball/2021/02/18/texas-longhorns-baseball-zach-zubia-readies-2021-season/6794217002/
  13. Hopefully, the heat will be working at Globe Life and teams will not have travel issues this weekend. Have been scanning other team's forums. A TCU fan posted heat was on for a WS game last year and the temp inside was in the mid/high 50's. As I scan other forums, you guys are not excited enough. 🙂 The ballpark will also provide a comfortable space in the winter months as well, as heat is provided through six boilers that combine to generate the heating system's hot water. "In the winter the boilers heat up water and generate hot water throughout the building," Johnson added. https://www.mlb.com/rangers/ballpark/globe-life-field/news/a-big-chill-to-fill#:~:text=The ballpark will also provide, the building%2C" Johnson added. Arlington: Fri 36/25 sunny Sat 45/40 sunny Sun 60/34 p/c https://weather.com/weather/weekend/l/c1f9df9733de9d6c96883936de01ca988e6217ae78a329b5ec2e6416ed904abf
  14. If you need a softball fix, Kansas vs LSU tonight, 7PM, SECN. As of now game is on, temp forecast 40 degrees at gametime. As many know, Kansas head coach is Jennifer McFalls (former Texas asst coach) and Kaitlyn Slack (former Texas player) is a grad asst. Kansas dropped a DH to McNeese yesterday 9-8, 6-5. Most of the B12 games have been cancelled (schedule below). Very, very unfortunate the Texas Classic had to be cancelled. What an outstanding lineup of teams (Ala, Az, Colo St, SHSU). MsSt, Ole Miss, UH, UConn, and Lamar are scheduled in town 26-28 Feb but what a bummer not to see Ala, Az, Colo St, and Sam. https://big12sports.com/calendar.aspx?path=softball
  15. Happy 90th Birthday, Coach ! Luv ya !
  16. AAS interview with Kaitlyn Washington (lengthy, excerpts below). Losing Miranda and the Covid dilemma will test the team's spirit and mentality, especially early. Hopefully, the pitching staff will inspire confidence and team leaders like Kaitlyn will excel and motivate. As @perfectchaos007 mentions weather above, 70%a chance of rain Thurs, high in the 40's all weekend, 10-13mph North wind. What was your reaction to Miranda's decision to opt out of this season? I definitely felt a lot of emotions given that me and Miranda have definitely gotten closer with her being here. I didn't have any doubts in the team when she was leaving. I was going to support her through her decision and everything. But as the team goes, I still have faith in this team. I don't think we'll be hurt too much by it. I think we have people that are going to be able to step up and (take advantage of the) opportunities. We have a lot of veterans on the team as well that have been here. I was a little shocked and hurt, but I always want to support her. What is your confidence level in the pitchers that this team still does have? I'm very confident in our pitching staff for sure. We've been scrimmaging over the past couple weeks and they've been looking really strong. Shea (O'Leary) brings a lot to the table, she did awesome from previous years. Ryleigh (White's) going to be a really good new face for us, she has some good stuff. So does Molly (Jacobsen) as well, we've played against her in the past and now we have her. But yeah, I think they're gonna be fine. We're gonna use them as a staff and they're going to do good this year. What are some of the team's strengths? Some strengths are definitely on the offensive side. We had a really good start of the season last year. I feel like we built upon that a lot just this fall and this spring so far. Definitely our offense is a strength. Our team chemistry, we're trying to build that up as well and I think it's come along pretty well so far. Still building on that, it's just hard with all this COVID, we can't really hang out outside of softball and trying to know everybody. We've definitely come a long way with the team chemistry as well. Who is a younger player who's going to take that next step this season? Alyssa Popelka. She has really come out of her shell. Her slapping, her hitting has been looking really good. Her outfield work has been great. She's the fastest girl on the team. She's been working really hard just this fall season and this spring season. So definitely Pop is someone to be on the lookout for. https://www.hookem.com/story/sports/softball/2021/02/09/texas-softball-kaitlyn-washington-returns-ut-season/4445626001/
  17. Not to derail the thread and excitement as we start the season, but thought the below may be of interest. Followed the stream of the trial this week. Concrete Cowboy was clearly responsible. Altercation started when Connor Capel (son of former UT pitcher Mike) and his girlfriend approached the crowded bar to retrieve her lost phone. Bouncers thought they were cutting in line and altercation ensued when without provocation bouncers began using chokeholds on Connor and and later Kacy. Further injuries occurred. (see photos in article). Randy Sorrels is your guy if you encounter a similar problem in Houston. (excerpts) The Minor League sons of two former Major League pitchers Friday won $3.24 million in their lawsuit over a 2019 assault at an upscale Washington Avenue bar. Kacy Clemens and Conner Capel, the sons of former Astros Roger Clemens and Mike Capel, were cleared of wrongdoing and the Concrete Cowboy was found liable in a Jan. 1, 2019 altercation involving the bar staff that left both men bloody and injured. Kent Adams, attorney for the bar owner and the bar’s parent company, said opposing counsel was an outstanding trial lawyer who did a great job on the Harris County case. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Astros-sons-bar-fight-Houston-lawsuit-win-15930595.php
  18. Take bobaso's advice, especially with the presence of blood and not healing.

  22. Thought this may be of interest to the history buffs from the one and only Craig Way. Top 10 of all time. No better source than Craig Way, the state’s preeminent high school expert. He did his usual spectacular job of calling the two 6A state football championships. I asked him where the Chaps rank all-time in his personal list of the top classification champions. Way picked 2019 Galena Park North Shore as his “most complete team ever” with its back-to-back state championship, followed in order by the 2015 Katy team that had “perhaps the best high school football defense ever in 6A," this year’s Westlake team with its “incredible defense and explosive and maturing offense," followed by 2016 Lake Travis and its “best offense of the highest classification” and Kyler Murray’s final 2014 Allen squad that three-peated. His next five are Cedric Benson’s three-peating Rebels of Midland Lee in 2000, 2006 Southlake Carroll for Todd Dodge’s fourth title in five seasons, Jessie Armstead and Dallas Carter’s 1988 team, Jerod Douglas and the 1993 Converse Judson team, and a tie between the 1991 Odessa Permian club that beat Priest Holmes’ San Antonio Marshall and the “great goshamighty, Joe Friday” John Tyler club in 1994 that had the “greatest finish ever in a playoff game." https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/2021/01/19/kirk-bohls-chaps-among-best-high-school-state-football-champions-ever/4221144001/
  23. Drive failure, power failure ? Always considering one for backup for reasons as you state. Chromebooks do have USB ports, right ?
  24. Don't disagree, but Klubnik also injured. Great game ! Congrats to @TreatyOak and the 'Chap Nation. Westlake had a quarterback who completed all but two of his 20 passes Saturday even though Todd Dodge said the junior didn’t throw a pass all week because of a banged-up shoulder, courtesy of a rugged game against two-time defending state champion Galena Park North Shore the week before. https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/2021/01/17/high-school-football-westlake-lays-claim-most-complete-team/4196050001/
