  1. Hopefully a return to something closer to center than Trump’s version of conservatism, to rational, thoughtful, and dignified leadership, and to have an administration focused on including the concerns of all Americans and not just the card-carrying party line voters. And for my teenage daughter, a remarkable young woman of color, for her to have representation in the level of executive power.
  2. Man, I would have loved to have seen Kuss just turn it loose on the Angliru. I wonder how close he is to being a truly special and dominant climber. My guess is that he is already pretty high on that list and team plans and tactics are the things keeping him from really putting on a show. Every time I watch a race with the Angliru it further fortifies my resolve to visit that beast in person. The next time I go to Spain it is a mandatory stop. What an unrelenting monster of a climb. Interesting ITT tomorrow with an uphill finish. After that last time trial at the Tour, I expecting Roglic to light this thing up. I don’t think putting more than 13 seconds into Carapaz is out of the question. Pretty damn compelling race so far.
  3. The Big Wheel ice cream sandwich from 7-11 in the 80s. Couldn’t find a photo of the package. Two chocolate covered oatmeal cookies with vanilla ice cream. We used to crush those things in the north Texas summers.
  4. Damn, Primoz! Today was supposed to be for the sprinters. Dude has no chill this week. Guess he must feel pretty good to make an effort like that today going into some difficult days in the mountains.
  5. Donated and forwarded the message to likeminded friends, family, and colleagues. Thanks for getting the message out!
  6. No kidding. The way Roglic savagely dropped Carapaz in the last km, then doubled the gap in the last 200m is a sign that he ain’t playing around. Even though he played the good sport when losing the Tour in such humiliating fashion, you have to wonder if he realized his mistake in not attacking Pogacar more often to put time into him and is making an effort to be more aggressive.
  7. Sucks it’s only 5 episodes. There’s at least a couple more hours of interesting stories to tell after the return of Rogan.
  8. I think it was a pretty thorough account of that time. I was curious to see if Binder was going to round up and interview all of the people who were either Team Mencia or the ones afraid to NOT be Team Mencia. It’s pretty clear that what Rogan did was overdue and he obviously ended up on “the right side of history” so to speak, but that happened way before Rogan had anywhere near the cache in that scene that he had these days. When Redban’s video got out there, before “going viral” was this everyday thing, it was one of the biggest and most public call outs of a joke thief we had seen. The impact was greater because Rogan didn’t do it behind Mencia’s back, he confronted him in front a paying crowd and other comics. I was pretty “meh” on Rogan’s standup at the time, but appreciated that he had the nerve to bring to light this issue with Mencia that other comics were pissed about, but didn’t want to rock the boat with Mitzi and lose spots. It’s also cool to see that the known joke thieves are largely irrelevant these days, and that The Comedy Store scene rebounded and is flourishing, at least when there’s not a pandemic.
  9. Speaking of Rogan, Episode 4 just dropped and it’s called “Joe Rogan Returns.” Interested to see how much spin is put on this telling of that situation.
  10. For anyone following today, pretty exciting finish to an otherwise boring Giro with an ITT win deciding the race a la the Tour. In La Vuelta, a disastrous day for TJV. Roglic falls from rojo to off the podium, and their other GC hope Kuss loses 10 minutes. This race just got much more interesting.
  11. That may be a contentious matter of opinion. Personally, I don’t think so, but Rogan, along with many others, certainly benefited from an improved climate change within The Comedy Store after he was allowed to return around 6 or 7 years ago. For anyone not familiar with that, Rogan had a falling out with his representation after calling out one of the Store’s biggest stars at the time, Carlos Mencia, as a habitual and unapologetic joke thief, the unforgivable sin of the stand up world. Rogan’s call out and confrontation with Mencia was supported by the working comics, but not by the the club manager, and he wouldn’t be welcome there until years later. On the other hand, I’m sure The Comedy Store has received a lot of positive exposure to more people because of all the different successful podcasts hosted by LA comics who work out of that club. That club has been iconic since way before the likes of Joe Rogan, but having a podcast with that reach surely doesn’t hurt. I don’t want to hijack the thread, but the thing that interests me about “the Rogan effect” is how or if his move to Austin will affect the comedy scene here. Like you mentioned, him and his buddies, as well as other LA comics/podcasters, talk up The Store with the fondness of it as their local gym. They talk about it being an inclusive environment with a tight not community that encourages and fosters comedians. I don’t see Rogan, and others, coming to Austin without some confidence of being able to create a comparable creative comedy scene that will attract more established and up and coming talent. It will be interesting to follow what happens with comedy in Austin.
  12. Really enjoying this show so far. Like others have mentioned, I’m a huge fan and consumer of stand up, and have always been fascinated by that scene and the inner workings of that world. There are a number of clubs around the country that could warrant and support this kind of documentary or docu-series. Even casual fans of comedy know The Comedy Store and The Comedy Cellar. Excluding this year of course, I always make sure I get a couple of trips to the Store when I’m in LA, and a night or two at the Cellar when I’m in Manhattan. The lineups and drop ins at those places on any given night (outside of open mics) has reached the point of well known and established killers one after the other. I love shows like Crashing, IDUH, and Marvelous Ms Maisel, but it’s really cool to have a no bullshit documentary series telling the story of one of the iconic comedy clubs from the point of view of comics for whom the Store was or still is their “gym” to develop and work out their sets. And for whoever doesn’t like the schtick of Pauly Shore or Nikki Glaser, they’re not doing their material in the show, just providing anecdotal testimony about the club and the scene. It’s definitely worth a watch if you’re a fan of comedy beyond just enjoying the finished product of the one hour special.
  13. Turtle mode engaged. Commence operation snatch defeat from jaws of victory
  14. Texas winning a 3rd quarter against a conference team and it feels like we’re losing
  15. La Vuelta: “Let’s let the GC guys get after it, and I don’t mean “get after it” with an ITT, but with a real climb on Stage 1”. Dumolin loses a minute to his teammate Roglic who wins the stage. Thibaut loses 10 minutes, Froome 11 minutes. Okay Vuelta, you have my attention.
  16. The Giro is hanging on by a thread. The ‘Rona is running rampant and JV packed it in. Cool to see Sagan win in old Sagan fashion. I was starting to wonder if that guy was ever gonna win another race.
  17. Only those who have actually been in the audience at a Bill Burr gig in the last few years will fully understand what a ridiculous and inaccurate take this is.
  18. Whatever keeps us from having to possibly endure a horrible cover version of a Jason Isbell masterpiece is fine with me.
  19. That open was horrible and terribly written. Burr’s monologue was funny, but if you’ve seen him perform in the last couple of years, that was largely reworked bits he’s been doing live for awhile. Let’s see where this goes.
  20. https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/paris-roubaix-cancelled-after-covid-19-cases-rise-in-northern-france/ That sucks. That’s always been one of my favorite races.
