  1. What a bunch of hogwash! I assume that the /sarc tag was left off.
  2. ISWYDT!
  3. Note that Kurt Bowels shares the byline on this new piece. He's got to have had a role in the timing and leaking of the Pierce firing story.
  4. Mills looks like he'd be intimidating on the basepaths.
  5. Pretty sure that story came out right after the Big 12 tournament ended.
  6. My theory on the timing of the announcement of Pierce's firing is related to Kurt Bowels. He wasn't gonna hold back on writing about the story, like others did, because he wanted to get a bunch of clicks at his new employer, the Houston Chronicle with an "exclusive" story. Texas was forced to get ahead of Bowel's story and move up their timing of the announcement about Pierce.
  7. Very odd. It never got above around 10,000 ft. or 200 mph. Flight plan was 40,000 ft. and 600 mph.
  8. No disrespect to your wife @Armybrat, but this Taylor Duck needed to go away a very long time ago.
  9. WNBA is real -- just like wrestling!
  10. That reminds me that I need a set of those! Thanks!
  11. I'm not a Surly lawdog, but there are circumstances where owners can move to establish a receivership over a property to resolve those kinds of issues.
  12. This is a big issue all over Texas. Ranches turning into Ranchettes that are too small to effectively manage. In my personal situation, we have some generational timberland in East Texas that will get split up as the actuarial tables tell their tales. There has been some resistance to actually moving properties to some sort of trust or family LLC-such vehicle, but, so far, we have managed to all mutually engage the same forestry consultant under a single contract. Way better to go to market with more acreage whether you are harvesting or re-planting.
  13. My wife always warned my son about about marrying a rich/privileged girl, as he'd never be able to do enough to keep her happy. He took that to heart. They eloped and got married in front of a judge. We had a party for them at a brewery a couple of months later and had Matt's El Rancho cater it. Maybe $2,500-$3,000 out of pocket. 8 years and 2 grandkids later, they are still married. A great investment!
  14. Martini talk on the Cheese Enchilada thread not going away.
  15. I have a small acreage place and just use the biggest gasoline powered Husqvarna garden tractor for grass cutting and a self powered Swisher tow-behind for brush. I am beating the shit out of them and probably need to upgrade. My biggest issue holding me back is making the switch to diesel. How to you guys deal with diesel? Did you go ahead and get a storage tank big enough to be able to get a company to make deliveries? Or do you just schlep it around in the back of your pickup truck? Thanks.
  16. Definitely an acquired taste, but good for him! RIP.
  17. Those TV ads were from the early 1960s. Villa Capri's restaurant was considered to be a really big deal back then. Christie's, Norman Eaton's Polynesian Room, Nighthawk. The Barn, and private places like Headliners and Austin Club were the height of the Austin fine dining scene back then. The restaurant world in Austin changed in a big way after liquor by the drink become legal.
  18. @Lidig8r I think he mostly does civil stuff, but bet that he knows somebody that could fit the bill.
  19. Pretty sure that it always included the hotel component. https://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth1227546/
  20. Yes. I never understood that U.R. Cooks place. If I'm gonna be getting stinked up grilling steaks, I'm gonna be doing it out on my deck and drinking my own whiskey.
  21. Not a fan. If I'm paying over a $100 per couple, before wine is figured in, they damn well better be doing the cooking for me!
  22. I grew up in a hyper-protestant world. Now have attended a conservative Anglican church for 25+ years. I appreciate the liturgy and and am glad that we have bumper rails against whatever Brother Bob decides that he wants to emphasize (Generally it's all Romans, all the time, in my prior experience!) YMMV, but this has worked well for me, plus I don't have to put up with the hippie music that my RC friends try to tolerate.
