  1. Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head, obviously. Both are pretty cool. The remaining artillery batteries on Diamond Head give some perspective on what serving in WWII must have been like.
  2. One of the neatest things we did the last time in Oahu was to take a ride to their Chinatown mid-day. All of the fruit, veggie, and meat markets were very interesting. (I had my portrait taken with a whole pig!) Lots of fun restaurants where all that we could do was to point at the pictures on the menus. That would be a fun time for your kids.
  3. Loco Moco is the nuts. Spam Musubi from the convenience stores is a great thing to bring along on a road excursion.
  4. Happy hours at Dukes in Waikiki are a must. Live music, great drinks, and the very best calamari that you will ever eat.
  5. That Holiday Inn has been a blight forever, but I guess that it is still a cash machine for somebody.
  6. Yuck. Get well soon, Princess.
  7. That music is from Carl Orff's classic "Carmina Burana." The movement is "O Fortuna" Crazy conspiracy theory. Then I realized that it was you, Nicole! Carry on!
  8. More folks around Rainey Street to keep Nicole busy! 700 River Apartment Tower Celebrates Topping Out in the Rainey Street District https://austin.towers.net/700-river-apartment-tower-celebrates-topping-out-in-the-rainey-street-district/?pro=jude@towers.net
  9. David was a great guy. Got to know him some through Aquafest over the years. Many mutual friends who all thought the world of him. RIP.
  10. Every time I read this thread I am reminded of the importance of staying away from dealerships for non-warranty work. Those dealership all serve the most expensive "free" cups of coffee that you'll ever drink.
  11. That's a damn shame! Thanks for posting.
  12. I've been wondering about that, as well. The impact videos demonstrated that they had no lack of fuel. The ATC recordings indicated that English was not the pilot's first language. My guess is after he overran the runway the first time, he made the famous "impossible turn" and lost lift and control.
  13. I switched all of our cars to TollTag several years ago and could not be more pleased. Efficient and no fuck ups.
  14. Got it. This old hasn't been to one of those fast food places in 20+ years. If I'm desperate, I'll grab sushi at an HEB. Otherwise, I go sit at a restaurant bar and eat real food along with cocktails.
  15. Are you guys all poors? It sounds like it if your are bitching about prices at (checks notes) Wendy's?
  16. This aggression will not stand. Car crashes into North Austin pho restaurant https://www.kvue.com/article/news/local/pho-van-austin-crash/269-7b8f0749-cfbd-4750-87e7-da1a8f0ea163

  18. The so-called Save Our Springs group is insufferable and increasingly irrelevant. This project is a long way downstream and will remediate and improve an old industrial plant to a better use given the changes that have happened in East Austin. Groups sue Austin officials over plan to redevelop dairy plant site https://www.kut.org/austin/2024-02-26/groups-sue-austin-officials-over-plan-to-redevelop-dairy-plant-site
  19. Speaking of The Pier -- a reunion show of the Armadillo World HQ house band -- Too Smooth.
  20. As long as there are Anderson Trojans around, I suspect that Wally's will be around. https://www.wallysaustin.com/
  21. I struggled with where to post this story, but Steel Shank it is! I'm a liver and onions guy, BTW. Demolition Pending for Northwest Austin's Former Luby's Cafeteria https://austin.towers.net/demolition-pending-for-northwest-austins-former-lubys-cafeteria/?pro=jude@towers.net
  22. I'm meh to neutral on City Hall. The Central Library is bad gubmint on steroids. I'm even more bothered by the Seaholm Power Plant. That could have been a terrific Austin cultural resource if it had been done correctly.
  23. Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi. Lots of talent at the pool during the day. Get a cabana. Tip your server. You'll do fine.
