  1. The so-called Save Our Springs group is insufferable and increasingly irrelevant. This project is a long way downstream and will remediate and improve an old industrial plant to a better use given the changes that have happened in East Austin. Groups sue Austin officials over plan to redevelop dairy plant site https://www.kut.org/austin/2024-02-26/groups-sue-austin-officials-over-plan-to-redevelop-dairy-plant-site
  2. Speaking of The Pier -- a reunion show of the Armadillo World HQ house band -- Too Smooth.
  3. As long as there are Anderson Trojans around, I suspect that Wally's will be around. https://www.wallysaustin.com/
  4. I struggled with where to post this story, but Steel Shank it is! I'm a liver and onions guy, BTW. Demolition Pending for Northwest Austin's Former Luby's Cafeteria https://austin.towers.net/demolition-pending-for-northwest-austins-former-lubys-cafeteria/?pro=jude@towers.net
  5. I'm meh to neutral on City Hall. The Central Library is bad gubmint on steroids. I'm even more bothered by the Seaholm Power Plant. That could have been a terrific Austin cultural resource if it had been done correctly.
  6. Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi. Lots of talent at the pool during the day. Get a cabana. Tip your server. You'll do fine.
  7. You are on the right thread. Listen to these guys.
  8. That American flight is what attracted me. I'm getting tired of fighting through big airports if I don't absolutely have to.
  9. Subscribed. We were in SF for a family event in December. Cannot see us taking the time to go there again. But we took a couple of days after that to see Monterey, PG, and Carmel. So great. I think I'd go back there just to eat grilled octopus! Flying in directly to Monterey looks like the way to go.
  10. Mi Cocina now does an upcharge if you want borracho beans instead of refritos. What is the world coming to?
  11. One of my fraternity brothers is known for always ordering a #1 Dinner without even looking at the menu. It usually works out OK.
  12. I've been aware of several swinger couples amongst the folks I've worked with over the years. The closest that I've seen to ENM was an attractive 60ish woman that was married to a guy that no longer had the lumber. She told errybody that she had his permission to find some wood.
  13. I had a cousin who went down that path. His Momma was always glad when he was incarcerated. She could sleep well at night not worrying about him getting into more trouble! The family had to cut him loose financially regarding bail or lawyers after a couple of trips to Huntsville.
  14. Hilo is a bit gritty, but I think in a good way. Not so shiny and touristy, and decidedly more Asian than the Kona side of the island. My wife drug me kicking and screaming to the botanical garden. I ended up really enjoying it.
  15. It's a little more complicated than that. Maybe I value my privacy too much, but having to publicly file all of the detailed schedules about your finances and possessions would make any kind of BK filing an absolute last resort for me.
  16. I don't know all the details, but the guy is two years from a paid off house, has a good job, has $90K in high interest debt -- allegedly from helping out family members in an emergency. Bankruptcy is just about the last thing to even think about. SMH.
  17. I like them too, but I doubt that Earl has much to do with it anymore. J Bar B Foods out of Waelder and Weimar crank out Earl Campbell and Cajun Hollar products, and lots of other private label sausages for places like HEB and Wal Mart. https://www.jbfoods.com/brands
  18. That or a HELOC. Much lower interest rates either way.
  19. It sounds like the destination is not the presenting issue. Good luck.
  20. The Costco stores in Hawaii also have great local fish -- some fresh, some frozen. We've done the condo route on Big Island, Maui, and Kuai and have always hit the local Costco on arrival for most all of our provisions like that (read: wine) and then do the local farmer's markets daily for fresh produce -- we enjoy cooking, especially on vacation!
  21. Pretty good synopsis about the Art story here: Austin Tells Public Safety Advocates To Hold Its Beer By Rehiring Former Police Chief Art Acevedo https://thehayride.com/2024/01/austin-tells-public-safety-advocates-to-hold-its-beer-by-rehiring-former-police-chief-art-acevedo/ The only thing that this piece overlooked was Art's TV camera appearances and dissembling after the Houston "drug house" police shootings that weren't actually at a "drug house."
  22. Cool. I misspoke. We didn't go past the visitors center.
