  1. Officials are just so bad in most games these days. Nearly every downfield pass play could be PI...so they evidently flip coins to see which ones get called.
  2. The Astros scored in double digits in 7 of those 25 games, or 28%. They scored double digits in 11 of our other 121 games, or 9%. Call me crazy, but I think I'm in favor of a lineup that figures to score more runs. Especially against a very good offensive opponent.
  3. Wasn't Strider the guy who said he didn't like fans cheering for him? The Philly fans seem very supportive of his pitching tonight.
  4. I'm still shocked the Astros have made it this far again. Amazing run for a team gasping for air against bad teams a few weeks ago. Of course, the Rangers also have overcome a lot, especially with their pitching injuries. Some great head-to-heads are shaping up. Garcia vs. Alvarez? The advantage I'd give to Houston, though not by much. Seager vs. Tucker? Right now Corey's hitting better than Kyle. Altuve vs. Semien? Bregman vs. Jung? Garver vs. Abreu? Brantley vs. Carter? All tough calls. A bunch of guys on each side can rip it during any given AB, so it just depends on who's feeling it and gets a mistake to hit in a key situation. I haven't checked the defensive stats, but Jung and Seager vs. Bregman and Peña is a great matchup. On the right side I must give the edge to Texas. Each team is good in the OF, with Tucker being the most celebrated defender. Catcher is a runaway win for Heim over Maldonado, whether behind the plate or to the side of it (unless maybe "intangibles" really are a huge deal, in which case it tightens up.) The real key will be which team gets better pitching. Eovaldi, Dunning and Montgomery are tough starters. Who really knows about Max's availability? Verlander and Javier have been on a roll, but Valdez remains a wild card. In the end the bullpens might be the difference, and there the Astros have an edge. In part that's because of their ability to coax needed middle innings out of Urquidy, Brown, Maton and maybe France. Abreu and Neris are great setup guys, while Pressly is the obvious pick to close. Add it all up, and I see the series result as Houston in 7. An epic battle is coming.
  5. Bruce Dern is such a valuable utility guy for LA. Let's see if he can somehow go against the grain of Dodger choking here.
  6. Another clean bottom half of the inning would be most gruntling. No walks, por favor.
  7. I'd prefer a clean inning here. Send word to the dugout.
  8. I'd like a few more runs. And by a few I mean 9.
  9. When your fans go nuts over a K by Maldy, you know they're desperate for good news.
  10. Tucker looks lost. Of course, nearly anyone would batting after 44, but still. Guy needs to wake up soon.
  11. As great an AB as Maldy can have that ends in a K.
  12. Who stole Urquidy's uniform that inning?
  13. Except for the fact his clockwise swing will generate an anticyclone strong enough to reverse the wind and push any area storm systems into Ontario.
  14. Ball probably won't travel as far in the cooler air. So I see Yordan's HRs topping out at roughly 430 feet.
  15. The way we looked for long stretches of the season after a dominant title run in 2022, I feel like we're now playing with house money. Let's put the Twins up for adoption and see what happens against Little Brother.
  16. The Astros are our team, regardless of who's on the field. We all just want the highest probability of winning. We can quibble over lineups and moves, as we always have and always will. That's at the core of fandom. But the goal always is to shower in champagne. Someone has to win it, so that might as well be Houston...again.
