  1. Semi-auto ARs currently available to the public are very effective in doing what they are designed to do. That's the mode the average Joe uses engaged when deployed I would guess 90%+ of the time. Full auto has a myriad of disadvantages Hollywood does not illustrate. I enjoy popping off rounds with my AR and my embarrassingly bad groupings. But we have a serious gun violence problem, and I don't blame someone who looks to do something about it. I blame the 2nd Amendment ignorant fucksticks who couldn't be bothered to enact common sense measures to curtail the mass murders. You know, like every other first world country.
  2. I've read some about how folks are dealing with Trumpkin relatives, and I can relate, as I have a lot. I have been quiet overall with them. But I am starting to feel like I am taking the easy way out by not calling them out. I don't mind becoming a family pariah but I also don't want to inadvertently hinder getting that babydick out of office. I would like to hear successful strategies. More than anything I am working to make sure people vote. Everybody grab somebody.
  3. On the subject of the Hispanic vote I completely believe it is over 15% for Trump. It is probably closer to 25%. I was incredulous to this idea 3+ years ago but I get it now. The single issue Catholic anti-abortion vote is a lot of it of course. But a good deal can be explained by a simple analogy: Upon passing the bar, new lawyers overwhelming agree there are too many lawyers. This is not unique to Hispanic immigrants, documented or not, even several generations in. A few nights ago I had a CNN show on in the background and new Syrian immigrants, now citizens, very much supported Trump. They felt they have persevered and their hard work had paid off. This is undoubtedly true. They viewed Trump and Republicans as the face of the American dream and those that have not achieved are undesirable, and competition is not welcome.
  4. 78749. Sweet Summer rain.
  5. Immigrants! That's how they do, you know. Just drive around listening to raps and shooting all the jobs.
  6. Jacked up Ram in a nearby cul-de-sac that I walk past with the dogs had a Trump 2020 bumper sticker. In addition to a dozen innocuous ones. The Trump one is gone as of a few weeks ago. I'm hoping he had a change of heart. Hope is a dangerous thing.
  7. Honestly appreciate the input like this. Helps me navigate how I am where I am.
  8. That's pretty cool, though they wouldn't be able to carry off a coconut.
  9. I hear you and it's not defensible. It's a ridiculous illogical position but if an old is dug in that deep you have little chance of changing their mind. In the end it's church leadership and Fox News, in no particular order.
  10. Her point was just that a powerful non-believer was chosen by God to be the vehicle of his will so that justified voting for him. You've probably heard that I won the Bible Bowl in fifth grade but I admit the beer and bong resin have clouded my comprehension now.
  11. Thanks. I fully embrace it. I was raised in a conservative "Christian" home and while I do respect and admire a lot of Jesus' ministry I wholly reject organized religion today.
  12. I was disheartened last Father's day weekend as the immediate family AIRBNB'd a "ranch" in the hill country. It was three days spent almost entirely outside in the sun, in the overly-chlorinated pool and in separate beds for everyone. 8 kids romping around in the pool, chasing lizards and just generally having a good time. Everyone there was "over" Covid, but at least there was no interaction with anyone outside the family group. My Boomer father and my Aunt were there, who I know to be good people of character and "Christian". It was so disappointing to observe the mental gymnastics used to still support Trump. For my father (Doctor) it has to do with ACA negatively affecting his income and the abortion issue. My Aunt has had just the right BS targeted at her: Isaiah 45. She contends that theses verses are interpreted as how God can use a bad man (Persian king Cyrus) to do his will. I can see that interpretation. Then she said it was a miracle Trump came along as the 45th president, which I of course reject. There is no arguing with these people so I don't try. I leaned Republican many years ago. There is no path that I can foresee for the GOP to ever win back my vote. I also feel guilty about voting pub a couple decades ago; I was wrong and I admit that. This man is a clear criminal and traitor. This weekend let's just try to communicate with those who will listen in a non-combative way, as well as listen to them. If each one of us just help change the mind of someone on the fence (admittedly not many) or get a Democrat to be sure to vote. That's where we win to change our course - the well-informed voter who is disillusioned and may just sit at home. Don't let them.
  13. I was GOP up until it came time to vote for the second term of GWB. I'm pretty ashamed of having been duped by their myths for a long time. It would take a lot for me to ever consider voting red again. -Climate change is real -We have a health system crisis -Our policing needs reform -Gun violence is out of control -The tax system is going in the wrong direction and furthering the class divide -Education needs to be overhauled -Etc Not only has the GOP willfully ignored self-evident issues, they seem to be determined to go in the wrong direction. Somehow it also astonished me how easily R leaders bent the knee and looked the other way WRT to Trump's behavior. Shameful. You bring up a good point on local vs. national elections. I will definitely be more involved and better informed starting at the local level going forward. Signed, -MIddle-age middle-class gun-owning truck-driving white male Texan
  14. This is you mentally composed? Tell the My Little Ponies we said High.
  15. Probably not. My (I finally get to say this!) "source" says they are a third-party of ex-green berets looking to cash in on a bounty. One of the guys is from Austin and a Texas DL is shown in one of the clips.
  16. Four year old Porsche? Humblebrag falls flat.
  17. SIAP If you want a walk-through of what this thing is: https://www.youtube.com/embed/4J0d59dd-qM . It's long and the beginning will turn anybody off. Be patient. Most of the regulars might know all this but it struck me as pretty, pretty good. As much as a I despise aggie they may know a thing or two about animal transmissions.
  18. I would like to fight this guy.
