  1. Precip amounts for this weekend seem to be on the rise for Austin. Seeing 3.11" in NW Austin for Saturday.
  2. So should all negotiated contract be able to simply be voided at your pleasure, or just this one in particular.
  3. So you’re good with just simply reneging on the deal that was negotiated and codified decades ago, before the dams were first built, and just fucking over all of the families that were\are doing nothing more than what was promised them? Just simply cut them off and offer no reimbursement or payment for their generations of work? Seriously, if you don’t like the deal that was previously made, renegotiate it and make sure everyone is compensated appropriately. It’s no different than any other contract. You can’t just decide “fuck ‘em” and stop the deal.
  4. Yeah…those folks that were there making a living and promised water long before you decided to go wakeboarding on lake Travis. If you want to take away what they were promised and afforded to them, you should pay them out on the lost wages of their livelihood and I am sure they will gladly retire.
  5. There is already a downstream project in the works. They fucked up the design and thought it was complete 18 moths ago but realized it leaked so they had to basically start over. I think they believe it will be ready within the year now, but even once it is complete it will still need to be filled. It is a 90k acre foot reservoir that is designed to collect excess rain that flows out of Austin or below Austin. It is basically held in reserve to be used to provide water to the rice farmers downstream and holding back more upstream for use in Austin. it wouldn’t do much good now obviously because the current drought is so long that it would have been depleted, but it will be good in the future.
  6. He's had ten months to take the city and has failed, but was planning to have it completely taken in the next 5 days if he would have just received ammo? Riiiiggghhhtttt.... If I am Shogiu. I would send a pile of ammo so large that he couldn't deny it. Then on May 10th publicly ask why he failed at taking the city he promised to take.
  7. Texas Monthly weighs in: https://www.texasmonthly.com/news-politics/sorry-true-crime-fans-but-theres-no-serial-killer-in-austin/
  8. To slacks credit, the truth actually is somewhere between the two sides presented here and all around social media. It just happens to be similar to the way the number two is somewhere between one and one thousand.
  9. I used to base my concern over storms on @phdhorn warnings. Now I just wait to see if Yoemans has his jacket off and sleeves rolled.
  10. 6-7 years ago down on South Congress for the Lone Star Round Up Hot Rod Show, hail blew in around 9:30 PM and all of those guys and perfectly restored cars were scrambling like hell.
  11. Reminder: if you don't have enough garage space, throw a paddleboard or kayak or bags of mulch on top of your ride to keep it from getting pelted.
  12. Yes. I believe they are called Sidewinders. Now I see that dahobbs beat me to the punch.
  13. Apparently Fox7 is going to to a piece on this story during tonight's 9:00 PM broadcast.
  14. Texas Declared Independence on March 2, but Sam Houston won Independence on April 21. Hope that siesta was good, Santa Anna.
  15. That is a terribly written and research London Daily Mail piece. Don't read too much into it.
  16. The facts of this particular case were always dubious, and it is very likely that Jimmy Fennel actually murdered Stacey Stites. However, the more you read up on Rodney Reed himself, the more you realize he is still a huge piece of shit that should be in prison regardless of the facts of the Stites case.
  17. I don't know how far from Rainey St "Lady Bird Lake" is because I do not know what that is. I know that TOWN LAKE is the body of water that is a few hundred yards from Rainey that flows down to Longhorn dam.
  18. Oh man. We went to this place damn near every day. Either at the bar or in the cigar room. I have way too many stories to tell about customers and staff. My buddy took a few of the bartenders on a trip to Vegas. One weekday afternoon at like 2ish, we were there and the two brothers (can't remember the name off the top of my head) that owned all of the car dealerships in Round Rock had just sold all of them to Penske Automotive for a pretty substantial sum of money. They were drinking Macallan 50 year old scotch, which at the time was $450 a drink. So for each round, one of them pulled out their wallet and counted out ten $100 bills and slid it over to the cute girl working the bar. I think they had four rounds before they left. Was there another day, it was a Friday at lunch time. The whole banquet room was set up with full lunch; silverware, plates, napkins iced tea, etc. They brought in this huge group of Dell employees on the premise of a team lunch. Once they were all seated they fired everyone in the room and gave them appointment times of when they could go back to the office and pick up their shit. Talk about a look of shock on their faces as they walked out. We knew it was going to happen because the staff told us that it was weird that they paid to have the whole room set up for food but they weren't buying any food and only needed the room for less than an hour. So many characters in that place in the mid afternoons/early evening. Bob the crazy middle eastern dude that owned convenience stores. John the old Cowboy that got rich selling makeup in his younger days. A whole slew of young startup tech dudes. OK...that was my last derail post. Back to recruiting.
  19. This hits close to home because I actually served John Mackovic a glass of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay at the same Georgetown restaurant mentioned above.
  20. I worked at a place in Georgetown 20+ years ago and "KJ" was the absolute best seller on the menu for the Sun City crowd and the up and coming Georgetown yuppies. One day we were out of KJ and some 35-40ish year old Karen asked my buddy who was waiting on her if he had any Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. He said , "No ma'am we don't" Her response was an indignant "Do you even know what KENDALL JACKSON is?" He said, "Yes ma'am. It's an overpriced, mediocre California chardonnay. We normally have it just for ladies like you, but today we are just out of stock". She called the manager over and demanded a new waiter and that he be fired. She got a new waiter but he wasn't fired.
  21. I am shocked that some of them have actually made the connection about Jimbo towing the line in recruiting in order to protect his huge buyout.
  22. I believe they are primarily meant to stop Russian citizens trying to flee in order to avoid conscription and destruction of their economy/country.
