  1. Have a 3-day trip to NOLA with several other couples coming up next weekend. Haven't been back since a bachelor party in 2020, literally the weekend before COVID ground everything to a halt. Been close to a decade since I've been for a "relaxing" weekend (vs. guys trip/bachelor party). Need to catch up on this thread for some dining ideas. We're doing a private group dinner at Calcasieu one night, but so far, that's pretty much the only meal that's been pre-planned.
  2. Fallen Order was great, and it sounds like Jedi Survior will be a very solid sequel. One thing I wished they'd updated, which it doesn't sounds like they did, is that I wish all the collectibles in the game actually had functional effects rather than just cosmetic. Like getting a certain poncho would provide increased defense or health or you could tweak your lightsaber configuration to get additional damage or elemental effects or something.
  3. Bout to be monsoon season in H Town. ~5 inches expected between Wednesday afternoon and Sunday morning.
  4. First game of the year where I had my group's season tickets. Glad to be back in the hallowed grounds of MMP, but that's about it for what I enjoyed today. Worst 5-9 batting order I've seen the Astros roll out in a long while. I know Dusty has his hands pretty tied with Altuve and Brantley out, but yeesh. Watching the rookies go up there and K looking with men on base gets old pretty quick. Throw in that they intend to give Yordan frequent days off and we're in for some very lopsided batting orders these first 50 games or so. It's actually pretty impressive that we're 2-2. CWS stranding the bases loaded a dozen times certainly helped. We have a total of 4 XBH thru 36 innings and have struck out 41 times. Luck remains elusive as well. Not getting any of those "weak shot down the line that barely stays fair and rolls into the corner for a stand-up double." Bregman's timing is totally fucked at the moment. Swinging ahead or behind of everything. Finally crushed a solid line drive today and of course it went 5 feet left of the fowl pole. Far from hitting the panic button yet. Need to get that first good solid ass-whooping in and get our mojo flowing.
  5. OPEC+ announces a surprise new round of production cuts through the end of the year. Led by Saudi (500K), Iraq (210K), Kuwait (150K), and UAE (145K). Several other countries cutting by 50K or so. Total cuts amount to about 1.15M barrels a day. IN addition, Russia is extending its current "temporary" 500k cut through the end of the year (not that I think they have much choice regardless). Almost every analyst I follow was expecting them to stay the course at tomorrow's meeting. Quite an unexpected outcome.
  6. SIAP, but Russia is coming up on an impressive milestone. Within a day or two, they'll have lost their 10,000th piece of equipment. Currently sitting at 9,942 destroyed/abandoned/captured as of the latest update from the Dutch OSINT group Oryx. https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/attack-on-europe-documenting-equipment.html
  7. Back to .500. Let's go above tomorrow and stay there for the next 159.
  8. WTI $75.55 (+8% on the week) Nat Gas $2.20 (+6% on the week) It's a start!
  9. Winning that game would have been quite funny. Totally outhit and outpitched. Even our pitchers that didn't give up runs were routinely playing with fire. After 10+ LOB, CHW was eventually going to find some grass with runners on. It's game 1/162 and we were facing a potential Cy Young winner, but man, 6-9 in our lineup is gonna be rough to watch for a while. Oh well. Flush this one and win the series.
  10. My boy (pink nosed lab/basenji mix with the elf ears) always hams it up for the daycare cameras with his friends. It's his favorite place on earth. Arguably the happiest, friendliest dog I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Dumb as a box of rocks though. I imagine those two qualities are strongly correlated.
  11. $74.25. Highest close since the SVB-fueled tantrum 20 days ago. Go ahead and have Porterhouse bookmark this post to blame me if prices recede tomorrow.
  12. Houston forecast for next 2 weeks is dreary as hell. Clouds and rain chances as far as the eye can see. Not a single sunny day on the 15-day.
  13. Fangraphs projections have Astros going 89-73. Tied with NYY for best record in AL, just behind ATL (93-69) and SDP (91-71) in the majors. Interestingly, they have a dead heat between LAA, TEX, and SEA for 2nd in the AL West. All projected at either 83-79 or 82-80. OAK projected to be the worst team in the AL at 68-94. 538 has us tied with ATL for 2nd best record in MLB at 93-69. Only LAD ahead of us at 94-68. They give us the best odds of any team at winning our division. I'm going with 94-68 and we win AL West by 8+. Hope to be as wrong as I was last year when I underbid by 14 (92-70 vs 106-56).
  14. Live prices plummeting lately. Buddy of mine had a big boil on Saturday. Our crawfish supplier originally quoted him $2.50/lb, only ended up charging $2/lb when he actually met him to deliver that morning. I just checked in with him to get a sack for a small boil this weekend. Now just charging a flat $50/sack for mediums. That comes out to about $1.50/lb.
  15. Keep a pistol in my bedside table in case of a break in at night. Don't wanna be fumbling with the gun safe in an emergency. Put it up whenever maid comes or children will be at my house. Other guns stay locked up until needed for skeet shoots/hunting trips. I only take the pistol with me in my truck on rare occasions (driving through the hood to the dump, popping into the corner store after dark). Never every carry on my person.
  16. Some new gameplay footage from Tears of the Kingdom out yesterday.
  17. SIAP, but some details were released today on Crane's plan to eventually open up a Ballpark Entertainment District near MMP. Likely going up across Texas, on the site where the BUS and Home Plate used to be. 2027 at the earliest. https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2023/03/24/houston-astros-downtown-entertainment-center.html
  18. Have some clients in the Haynesville. Some are definitely scaling back their rig schedules (from what they were planning 6 months ago), if not pausing entirely. Some are just drilling what DUC's they need to keep leases alive. They've been operating under low natty prices for years, so play it conservatively regardless.
  19. Very briefly got back to $71 today, but retreated back to a few pennies shy of $70 after Fed.
  20. You can always buy straight from the source: https://www.petermillar.com/mlb/american-league/houston-astros
  21. Good ol FOMC Day roller coaster. Markets bounced a bit right after the 25 bps announcement, dove when Powell started talking, recovered back to slightly positive towards the 2nd half of his speech, and then puked into the close afterwards.
  22. Wife got me a Peter Millar Astros pullover for Xmas. It's easily one of my favorite items of clothing. Wear it to work probably once a week. Only thing that sucks is its too warm to wear the vast majority of baseball season. Oh well.
