  1. "Good news, son, you're getting called up to the show" "Thanks, skip, this is a dream come true." "You'll be facing the Astros."
  2. IMO, someone that's "really curious" could probably be bothered to read the full reports. They broke down job gains by industry and include average hourly wage information. Leisure and Hospitality +70K Manufacturing +30K Business and Professional Services +89K Health Care +70K Local govt. +57K (primarily school hiring) Transportation and Warehousing +27K Financial Services +13K Information Services +13K Mining and Oil & Gas +7K Average Hourly Wage: Up $0.15 to $32.27
  3. I swear, if my house is dry when I get home....
  4. Shepherd Park Draught House had probably a 10 year run there. The location's fine with the right concept.
  5. There's some great content on FNC today reacting to today's much stronger than anticipated jobs report.
  6. Win no. 69 (cue the tired jokes). Let's go ahead and be the 3rd team to reach 70 tomorrow. Back up to 31 over .500, and on pace to finish the season 104-58. Frankly, and this is kinda weird to say, but out of the last 5 dominant regular seasons we've put together (I'm not counting 2020), this one has felt a bit boring. I dunno, maybe it's not having a murderer's row offense of all-stars, or maybe it's the lack of any real divisional competition and that steamrolling our way to an AL West title has just become a yearly expectation. Sure, we've had some dramatic wins and frustrating losses, but mostly we just tend to go out there, pitch really well and win about 9 games for every 13 we play (.645).
  7. All of the offense evenly split between Chas and Maldy, as everyone saw coming.
  8. August 4, 2022, shall henceforth be remembered as Chasday.
  9. JV ERA so low that each scoreless inning he throws only brings him down 0.01 or less.
  10. Plesac allowed 12 baserunners through 4.1. That's pretty terrible. Amazing it's not 9-0 or something.
  11. Just updated the lineup . Tucker out, Diaz in.
  12. Some updates on stuff I've mentioned previously. Crust Pizza opens the weekend after next on 8/20. Grand opening is next Tuesday, 8/9. Based on their most recent IG posts, I can't imagine it'll be more than 2 weeks or so until they're open. This place opened a week ago and I've seen some very positive reviews. Some more upscale options than your typical Vietnamese cafe.
  13. Rest of state not gonna see much drought relief, but daily high temperatures should at least drop from "melt your face" to "somewhat hotter than usual for this time of year" The real interesting heat stuff has now moved up to the High Plains. A lot of places in Nebraska, Montana, Dakotas gonna touch 100 several times over the next week.
  14. Long-range forecasts are making it look like Houston might actually be in a for a standard, uncomfortably muggy August as opposed to the horrendous May-July we just experienced. Today is the only day in the 15-day forecast with a temp above 95. Cloud cover and decent rain chances most days (~40%) should keep us decently below 100. From SpaceCityWeather:
  15. WTI settles a little below $91. Lowest price since late February. RBOB gasoline down to $2.91, also a 6-month low. Natty had a nice late rally though, back up to $8.30.
  16. Altuve not gonna get the shot at 5 hits, unless something goes horribly wrong.
  17. Urquidy 7 scoreless with 2 hits, 10 K and 0 BB. 72% strikes (70/97). I'll accept it.
  18. Tucker fooled everyone on that. Ball was hit so high and slow that Verdugo had time to climb the wall, turn around, realize he'd misjudged it, climb back down and make the catch on the track.
  19. Tucker with the bunt single. Whatever it takes.
  20. 1 run despite getting 11 men on base (9 hits, 2 BB). A second straight game where we get a quality start and flawless relief, can't score any further runs after an early lead, and a single batter on the other team beats us by 1 run. When it rains, it fucking pours.
  21. Heaviest rainfall in weeks the past 15 minutes in 77018. Some minor street flooding and had water pouring over the sides of my gutters. Already moved on.
