  1. Phew. Was starting to get worried for a bit.
  2. Decent chance we just ended the Twins' playoff dreams. Pity. 81-45. 36 games left. Amazing to think that 26-10 would tie us with the 2019 Juggernaut Squad. Which, looking at our September schedule, seems fairly reasonable to expect.
  3. I think a more "fair" idea is capping the interest rate on student loan balances. I can't really say I've seen a good reason that federally-backed student loans need to be upwards of 7.5%. There are people are paying $500+ every month and not making a dent in their principal.
  4. Per the spacecity guys, the thing labeled "1" here is reasonably likely to develop into a TD or TS in the GOM late next week. Definitely some question marks regarding Labor Day weekend weather for folks in TX and LA.
  5. RBOB wholesale gasoline futures down to $2.78 this morning (lowest since 2/25). Implies a nationwide average of around $3.59 for regular unleaded later this Fall (currently $3.88). Probably $3.19 or so in Texas (currently $3.43). GasBuddy is already showing some stations on the outskirts of Houston at $3.00 or less. https://www.gasbuddy.com/gasprices/texas/houston
  6. 79-45. Best record we've ever posted through 124 games, even 2019.
  7. Bullpen hates closing out non-save situations.
  8. Took my dogs on a long walk starting around 9:00 this morning. Something I wouldn't even consider for most of the last 3 months. Was only in the mid-80's and there was a nice coastal breeze blowing from the Southeast. I didn't really get sweaty until a good 30 minutes in. Right now it's 94 in Houston, and according to the 15-day forecast, that's the highest temp, by a good 5-6 degrees, that we're expected to experience all the way through Labor Day.
  9. Should be able to take at least 2/3 against the Twins this week. JV vs. TBD and Framber vs. Bundy (4.6 ERA) to start, followed by Garcia vs. Archer (4.02 ERA).
  10. If this weekend was supposed to be a World Series Preview, I don't like what I'm seeing, at all.
  11. I honestly think Dusty is just being an indignant old shit at this point. "Y'all wanna criticize my lineups, I've got the best record in the AL, fuck you, I'll bat who I want wherever the hell I want."
  12. The more I read it sounds like Alvarez had a panic attack/mental episode on Friday night. He was feeling short of breath and then in the 5th inning, following a foul ball, he said he felt God has sent him a sign to leave the field and get checked out.
  13. 4th straight day with significant showers in Houston. 3.5 inches in the past 96 hours. 40% or better rain chances through Labor Day weekend according to the 15-day forecast. We may actually make up the 8 inch rainfall deficit we accumulated over June and July.
  14. I just enjoy the people that wanna compare it to 2020 prices. Those Halcyon days of early Covid we all remember so fondly.
  15. This genius is the main spokesperson for the RNC. Some quality replies in the thread (including the attached).
  16. They announced they were looking at opening up a Houston location, possibly in the Heights. Permit applications filed with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts indicate that Terry Black’s has plans to open a Houston location at 1329 Shepherd Drive. When reached for comment on Wednesday by Eater, co-owner Mark Black said that the restaurant is indeed exploring property options in Houston, but no deal has been signed just yet. In addition to the Shepherd Drive location, Black says that his team has also looked at spaces in the Heights and EaDo. The fact that they've bought up most of a block in the Heights is a significant update, IMO. Sorry for making you read two sentences and look at a picture.
  17. Lumber is down to $525, which is approaching a 52-week low (though still around 25% higher that pre-covid average in '18 and '19.
  18. Interesting nugget I picked up from HAIF today. An LLC owned by Terry Black has spent the last year buying up a good chunk of the block between 13th and 14th off Shepherd. Say hello to (most likely) the Houston location of Terry Black's BBQ.
  19. 77018 got a pretty good soaking yesterday evening and another round this morning. Rain gauge about a mile to NW says 2.56, the one a mile to NE says 1.4. I'll split the difference and call it about 2 inches since 5:30 yesterday.
  20. Lol, Bregman's WAR went up a half point in 24 hours. From 2.9 to 3.4.
  21. Little late for that. That was hard to watch.
  22. Harrison's bumping 53-57 up there. Ump calling almost anything that reaches the catcher's glove a strike.
