  1. Cowboys are at 81% to beat the Giants tonight. Bad omen, that. JG better come through, or the calls for a sacking will really be loud.
  2. They were in the midst of that 4-game road swing, and were playing Chelsea that day. When we left London, lots of Chelsea blue to be seen. When we got to Anfield, the game was about to start in the Anfield club (don’t remember the name), but the wife wanted to get back to town. The following Saturday, we were back in London. While the wife shopped at Harrod’s, I passed a pub that advertised it, about 5 minutes from our hotel, ‘The Barley Mow.’ I watched the thriller vs ShefU there, with a couple of LFC fans. Fun stuff, but yeah, I gotta go back someday.
  3. Totally unrelated to anything in here, but there’s really no where else to post it, and I wanted to share this with some folks who love Liverpool F.C. My wife & I were in England last month for two weeks. We took the train from Euston Sta. to Liverpool. We had only been in Liverpool about 1 hour, before taking the city bus to Anfield. Got there in about 15 minutes from the station near Albert Docks, but due to the lateness of the day, we were unable to make a tour. We paid to go through the Anfield Museum (I think £15 each). Lots of memorabilia there, and the Gerrard exhibit was amazing. Of course, my wife took a pic of yours truly, standing in front of all six Big Ears. Afterwards, I got to walk completely around Anfield, thinking of the greats who had played there, and the crowds who witnessed football the way it’s meant to be played. it was an amazing trip to truly one of the greatest venues in the world. I hope to go back one day, sit in the Kop, and sing YNWA with the Anfield choir.
  4. But this time he said winning on the road is hard. I wish somebody had said, “but you’re paid $5 mil a year to figure out how to do that.” herman is really a pusillanimous little man.
  5. TCU still plays solid defense. I generally pick the better defensive team. However, Sam is a really special QB with two playmaking wideouts. No turnovers or personal fouls, & don’t handle punts, & we should win this.
  6. I’m not so worried about offense, but I do believe fatterson knocks us back a step or two . As will K-state. Defensively, we rank #71 vs the run, and that’s our best defensive ranking. #126 allowing pass yds, #119 in total defense, #93 in scoring defense, etc. When we solve the D, I will start worrying how to make the offense more effective.
  7. I’m sure Kansas gets to 20, but they are not the goons, LSU or even okie state. Not even close. Texas’ offense alone should be enough to win this. No hand-wringing or griping about this one, they haven’t even started and there’s this, “omigish, it’s Les Miles” nonsense. Horns are winning this.
  8. Ok, I posted defensive numbers earlier, maybe we will feel better with offense: Total offense: Texas, #35 (454.7 ypg), KU, #103 (354.5); Rush Offense: Texas, #70 (163); KU, #74 (158.7); Pass Offense: Texas, #21 (291.7), Kansas, #100 (195.8); Scoring Offense: Texas, #13 (39.3 ppg), Kansas, #103 tie (22.8). And, Texas is tied for #8 in turnover margin (+1.17/game). We even have an edge in net punting. As long as we don’t try and return punts, this one’s in the W column.
  9. Here’s KU defense: Rush Defense: #122 (220.8 ypg); Pass Defense: #67 (223.7); Total Defense: tie #104 (444.5); Scoring Defense: #86 (29.7). The only reason the pass D is so high, is they are so easy to run against. Texas’ Offense has a big day, Thompson gets to play! The bad news: Our pass defense & Total Defense is even lower than theirs (yes, I know we played three top-10 offenses). Prediction: Texas, 44; KU, 23.
  10. What is our best win so far this year- Okie St, or WV? Both have been exposed as fairly bad teams this year. We face a couple of teams better than them the rest of the season (ISU, Baylor). Back to Herman, In his presser, Tom said , “we didn’t play well, we have to figure out why.” We’ve mentioned the obvious- poor pass protection; poor tackling; dropped passes. Thats a start. But, Herman appeared humbled. He knows he got beat by a superior team, both coaching & on-field performance. This is his biggest test, and I think he knows it. It’s still early enough in his coaching career, he’s still learning and perhaps he can salvage this season by getting this team to Big 12 championship game.
  11. Yes, I know we can “throw stats out the window” in this game. However, for the sake of discussion, a few relevant stats: Total Offense, Okla., #1 (643.8 ypg); #3 in rush offense; #5 in pass; #2, scoring offense. Texas, #19 (483.6), #11, scoring offense. Total Defense, Okla., #46 (346.4 ypg); #64 run defense; #25, scoring defense. Texas, #104; #126 pass defense; #68 scoring defense (26.6 ppg). Turnover Margin, Texas, #10 (+1.00/game); Okla., #43 (+.4/game); Net Punting, Okla., #19 (41.9); Texas, #71 (37.89); Penalty Yds/Game: Texas, #83 (60.2); Okla., #129, next-to-last (90.4). Factoring in teams already played accounts for much of the above. Texas’ two biggest advantages, creating turnovers & an edge in penalties. Okla. can kill drives more frequently, or extend opponents drives. Let’s hope that holds up. We are still last in the country in punt returns.
  12. Yeah, I whiffed badly on predicting GB outcome. Therefore, I’m not saying a word about game vs NYJ.
  13. I think this is true in all of our lifetimes; the Cowboys are two years older than me, and I believe our record vs them is the worst of any team in the NFC.
  14. Cowboys will win. Zeke won’t have two poor games in a row. O-line won’t have two poor games in a row. Cowboys will win.
  15. Ed Simonini... I think anybody my age or older has heard of him. Great player.
  16. Just a few stats to mull over (yes, I know we’ve played two, top-10 offenses. Just raw numbers): Total Offense: Texas, #19 (497.8 ypg); WV, #118 (326); Scoring Offense: Texas, #13 (41.8 ppg), WV, #94 (25); Total Defense: Texas, #102 (436.5), WV, #56 (374); Scoring Defense: both tied at #62, (25.5 ppg). Turnover Margin: Texas, #34 (+.5), WV, #50 (+.25); Net Punting: Texas, #102 (35.75), WV, #79 (37.36); Punt Returns: Texas, #130, dead last (-.63), WV, #59, (8.8). Texas didn’t lose to Okie State & fumbled 2 punts away. If we lose this game, it will be on total breakdown in ST play, penalties, & turnovers. It could happen. We need to stay humble.
  17. Glad we have so much depth in the secondary. We’re pretty beat up
  18. I also wish we played Rice every year. Kick out baylor
  19. Herman evaded that whole issue in his presser. Which isn’t surprising. What is surprising, why reporters didn’t ask about blitzes, particularly on 3rd & 17.
  20. Cowboys, I’m feeling it, 10-6, & win first playoff game. Cant say that every year.
