Yeah how is this team in first place by 2.5 games on Aug. 26?  So weird, but I'll take it.  I'm scared to death of that 4-game series at Wrigley at the end of September.

The Cubs play like .800 baseball at home and we've sucked ass there ever since the Cubs resurgence.  We need to put as much breathing room as possible in between us and them before that series.  I feel like just splitting that series would be a huge win.

Yes, that series will be huge, but this weekend was huge in hindsight.  And, we get the Cubs for 3 games at home after those 4 games at Wrigley.

I'm not exactly jacked up about the team this year because even if they make the playoffs, the Dodgers will push their stools in, but anything can happen.

Notre Dame (can accept), Michigan (ok maybe), Ohio State (lolok), and Oregon (wtf?) were the four helmets ahead.

    Michigan is a no-brainer.

Notre Dame's helmet is only iconic because Notre Dame's program is iconic.

Ohio State?  It's silver with a red and white stripe.  I guess the dozens of buckeye stickers they hand out like candy help?

Oregon . . . come the fuck on.

I'd probably put Clemson and Georgia on that list, although UGA basically lifted it from the Green Bay Packers.  (Contrary to legend, Grambling's version came later.)

I might even consider UCLA, given how unique it is.  Or USC (California version).

Now, if you really want to get twisted on this, here's a Bleacher Report ranking that DOESN'T INCLUDE TEXAS IN THE TOP 25:

  3. I try to avoid powdered chiles in my chili these days.  They don't blend well.  But, he could probably bloom some cayenne in olive oil and get that to mix in pretty well.

Agreed on serranos -- they're the most "flavor free" of the common hot chile peppers (jalapeno, serrano, habanero) in my book.  He could float a serrano or two in his batch.

  4. I'm not sure how you get heat without some kind of added flavor.  I'd split the pot near the end and maybe blend up a small can of chipotles en adobo to add to your batch.  At least then you're adding more "chili" flavor.

To me, most hot sauces have too much of a vinegar component for chili.  I'd love to hear recommendations for any that don't.

Basic macro economics states in times of economic boom you raise taxes and raise interest rates.

One school of macroeconomics states this.  Unfortunately, the supply side fools are running the show, and they disagree.

Jesus man, calm down...People can hate Trump and people in Patagonias in August at the same time.  In fact, I'm betting I'm in the majority here, maybe the plurality.  Or at least in that meaty part of the vendiagram overlay.

Well, I would have never noticed what she was wearing if someone hadn't pointed it out, so maybe I'm not the one who needs to dial it back.

  7. I've seen "It Might Get Loud" a half dozen times.  I own it.

There are times when Jimmy Page plugs in and I just can't imagine how someone could play with that much sound.  I just don't get it.  His style is simply massive.  He's a little sloppy, but for fuck's sake, his groove is just perfect with Bonham and Jones.

On the flip side, I don't think the HS talent show trio is that bad.  I mean, they're kids.  At least they gave it a shot.  I'm pretty sure my HS band sounded worse.  (That said, our drummer kicked total ass, and had a full ride to Eastman.)

  8. Never been in a penguin exhibit?  They're fucking freezing.  I imagine she knew it and brought the jacket along for that very reason.

But hey, let's focus on her choice of fashion and whatever effects it might have on plastic in the oceans when the right is in favor of obliterating the environment, destroying the economy, and killing or deporting everyone with a skin color darker than, well, white.

    tl;dr  fuck the right

There’s always plenty the week of. I’d wait.

Wait for the Sunday ticket too?  $105 seems pretty low-risk.  (I can't believe I'm even considering $105 for a lineup like that, but I'm not a teenager.  I seriously think the only 2 artists I'd care to see are Kacey Musgraves and Lizzo.)

  10. So my daughter, who had previously decided not to go, was asked by some friends to go on Sat/Sun Weekend 1.  Sunday is available for $105.  Saturday is sold out.  3-days are sold out.

What's my strategy here?  I'm thinking jump on the Sunday ticket ($105) through ACL and then try to finesse a Saturday ticket later, since right now those are $220 through resale.  (Weekend 1 resale is $445, so that seems a non-starter since she can't go Friday.)

  11. The masochist in me wants to see him pull this off.  Apple?  Out.  Everyone working with Foxconn and Delta and God knows how many millions of small Chinese factories?  Out.  No ties with China.

Do it, you fat feckless fuck!.  Our economy will be in the shitter within a week.  (By "shitter" I mean "worse than the Great Depression, not some minor 30% stock market swoon".)

  12. Yeah, Todd Sucherman is a monster.  I don't understand drummers -- half of them can't tie their shoes but they can get all 4 limbs working completely independently with about a half a brain controlling it all.  (No offense, drummers, I'm trying to be complimentary here.  That video and lick are insane.)

  13. Just watched a rerun of Tommy Shaw with Cleveland's Contemporary Youth Orchestra, and while he mostly played acoustic guitar and mandolin, he brought out a couple of gorgeous Les Pauls -- one blonde with almost no burst, whereas the other appeared to be a tea burst with a whammy bar:

Side note:  the guy is a phenomenal musician.  Say what you will about Styx, but those songs are more complex than one might think, and heavily grounded in English folk progressions.  His voice is still absolutely superb at age 63 (when taped), and he's obviously a smokin' rock guitarist.  It's a thoroughly enjoyable concert.(AXSTV, 340 on DirecTV).  The youth orchestra absolutely kicks ass, in particular a young guy in the concertmaster position (violin).
