  1. I’ll confirm the above. My in-laws had a place in Hamilton and on the drive up, Storms used to be our go-to spot until we tried Brad’s. Also, IMO the Storms in Hamilton is better than Lampasas location.
  2. It’s been a few years since I stopped but the Dinner Bell in Muleshoe was tip-top old school diner/cafe. Great hamburger steak with lots of onions. These places always remind me of spots my grandparents would know about and love on road trips. Unfortunately, they are fewer and farther between now, and most the quality sucks. I may have to stop by Dinner Bell on my return trip from New Mexico this spring.
  3. 1. Bone-in Cowboy Ribeye from Star Canyon in Dallas back in the 90s. I swear that dish had a halo hovering over it when brought to the table. 2. Damn near every dish at La Choza in Santa Fe. 3. Sweet corn from Chino’s Farms in Rancho Santa Fe, CA.
  4. For hiking in Arkansas, check out one of Tim Ernst guide books: http://timernst.com/Products/AHT.html I’m originally from Tulsa and wish I could offer some advice with regard to restaurants but too many years away to offer any accurate recommendations. Utica Square area neighborhood and Philbrook Museum are really nice that time of year as all the dogwoods and redbuds should be in full bloom. Philbrook is an incredible place. Pawhuska isn’t much to write home about but surrounding area is really nice. The Nature Conservancy’s tallgrass prairie preserve is near there and Ted Turner’s ranch is close by. They both have large buffalo herds and it’s a good place to drink firewater and yell “Tatonka!”
  5. One of these days, when I’m rich and famous (or at least until kids are out of college), I’m going to buy one of Leucadia Custom Knives wares:
  6. Definitely ski. They've had good snow this year. You'll have a good two years. Take up fly fishing as there are dozens of great small streams within a two hour drive of Santa Fe.
  7. I’ll bet OU’s entire defensive staff will be there with crisp resumes in hand.
  8. Man, Jerry Ball was a beast! Whenever I hear some coach say 'so and so' defensive lineman is too short to play here, I think of the same dumbass who would pass a Jerry Ball. Dude was like 5'10" and the most dominant defensive lineman in college football when he played.
  9. Split your week between Oaxaca and Huatulco. You’ll love both. Also, there are quite a few Italian expats in Huatulco, so do not miss the Italian restaurants in La Crucecita.
  10. Dammit! Santa Fe Bite is closing: http://www.sfreporter.com/news/2018/09/19/santa-fe-bite-to-close-october-26/ The best cheeseburger in the free world.
  11. That’s awesome! I’d be up for a trip even with the rain. Damn sure looks like a good spot to escape the Texas heat in the middle of August.
  12. I vote for a pan pizza thread. My first try a while back was decent with a side of meh. The above looks fantastic.
  13. Boots Burger in Rockwall used to be badass. I haven't had one in years though. About as old-school as it gets.
  14. Just saw this article. Totally figures... This quote from the article is total bullshit too from a talent perspective: “Normally when you replace a legend, someone like Barry who had accomplished so much, you take over a program that’s in very good shape,” said Gibbs in 1994. “In our case, we took over a program with extremely high expectations but which was basically a hellhole." When Gibbs took over, OU had Mike Gaddis, Joe Bowden, Glyn Milburn, Jason Belser, Reggie Barnes, Ricky Brady, who all played extensively in the NFL, along with about ten other guys who were in the NFL for at least a few years. Along with that, OU had both offensive and defensive lines filled with All Big 8 players. He had NCAA sanctions for his first two years with no TV or bowl games, but talent in the program was extremely high. Gibbs was as dull as a board and didn't give two shits about any of his players. On top of that, he had all of Barry Switzer's coaching staff intact before running most of those guys off. I've never seen a coach throw more people under the bus in an effort to save his own reputation.
  15. 20th and 25th Street in Del Mar are great spots to hit the beach. 25th has lifeguard tower with bathrooms. Crash and Gil hit all the high points. Only thing else I’ll add is running up to Leucadia to Fish 101...freshest fish in town as the owners know damn near all the boat captains. They’ve been killing the blue fin tuna lately and with warm waters, mahi are showing up locally. Oh...and go buy a bunch of T-shirts, hats, and stuff from my buddy J.P. at Surfy Surfy. Good dude. PS - Stone Delicious IPA on tap is aptly named.
  16. Saw this today and thought of this thread: https://instagram.com/p/BmOG2Wjn5Il/
  17. As one of your resident Sooners, I thought I'd chime in. Wichita Mountains area is a good hiking spot with terrain that is similar to Enchanted Rock in places. Lots of granite boulders, canyons, and wildlife. As mentioned above, the Charon's Garden is the most popular hike, along with Elk Mountain. I found this resource that mentions trails I've never heard of but look nice: https://www.hikingproject.com/directory/8013028/wichita-mountains-wildlife-refuge If you're camping, Great Plains State Park is nice: https://www.travelok.com/state-parks/3201 If hotel, I'd suggest Quartz Mountain or a hotel in Altus. Altus is a nice little town with an Air Force base. Lawton is indeed a shithole. Avoid. Restaurants - Meers is a must do. Several good restaurants in Altus and Snyder, OK, although it's been many years since I was in the area. Ouachita Mountains and Winding Stair Mountains is completely different area, more akin to Arkansas or Eastern US mountains and forests. I'd avoid hiking their in Fall due to hunting season but some incredibly winter time/spring time hikes. Take a packable flyrod, as every stream is loaded with smallmouth bass and sunfish.
  18. This. The backward facing seat areas were the pole position party areas on every flight. The fun people always sat in those sections. The good old days...
  19. Article about Frisco Shop’s closing: https://austin.eater.com/2018/7/27/17619180/frisco-shop-austin-restaurant-history-closed-night-hawk
  20. Dammit! New Austin sucks donkey nuts. Frisco’s Friday night fried shrimp is easily the best I’ve ever had:
  21. Ron’s had a location near my high school in T-town. I’ve put my stents on layaway due to burgers like this in my past. On another note, burgers at The Mont in Norman are truly spectacular. Their queso gives Bob Dip a run for their money too.
  22. Yeah. Not worth it. Now Valle Guadalupe and Ensenada is another story.
