  1. there was a woman recently who had to be airlifted out of Texas due to SB8 and docs' unwillingness to risk doing a lifesaving procedure, google if you feel like it, but there was news coverage.

  4. Hmm, I actually thought his contracts class was tough, and good. Anyone remember "blinkum"? How about another grade humblebrag...I took the contracts mid-term fully, stinking drunk... got a B. Swore off doing that kind of thing after that though. UT law talk not going away...
  5. Lino also had a charming habit of referring to "the blacks."
  6. Yeah. "By every indication" my ass, Mitch. Wake me up when the right stops making shit up out of whole cloth. Amazing the lies their rubes will accept at face value.
  7. Are you asking me? I don't run in rural Texas MAGA circles, so no if this is a question
  8. I have to admit I really like "no step on snek" What the f is the one above it though?

  13. Well what would you WANT the leading cause of kids' deaths to be? Cancer??! Furk you buddy
  14. ^^^ yep, and it's crazy to contemplate. Similarly, a friend of mine said teachers would slap her parents when they were kids in school, for speaking Spanish. The shame was ingrained and so her parents never taught her Spanish. I wonder if any of the Hispanics voting R internalized that kind of self-loathing when they rail against new immigrants. Progress is good.
  15. Oh my god... can I take back my negs, I am so, so sorry, I didn't realize
  16. Wait, what about tyranny of the majority? I thought you right-wingers were all about individual rights and freedom ... but now you're all for passing laws about speech?
  17. He's the Don Huffines of shitty ballad singers
  18. Kids have families. This fact happens to come up at school. It doesn't have to even be about marriage. And marriage doesn't equal "sex." As some well know. So no one should be mentioning their parents I guess, since some kids have same-sex parents? Or are just the kids in an LGBT family not ok for the teacher to engage with t on these topics that casually come up all the time? Public schools are for everyone. Every kid. Every family. Every student should feel safe and welcome. Private school or home is the place to indoctrinate kids otherwise. My son has two moms. Ever since he's been of school age, I have never wanted him to feel shamed, singled out, stigmatized, less than, or othered due to that fact. Imagine that.
  19. Fucking over good teachers is more than a happy byproduct of the Republican anti-gay agenda. Their ultimate goal of course, as stated by the Texas Public Policy Foundation, is to defund/deligitimize public schools. There are still quite a lot of conservatives who don't directly agree because they have no recourse to educating their young'uns apart from public schools, but they are happily being used as pawns toward this end in the whole "parental rights" movement.
  20. Once again. If a kid talks about their mom and dad, no one will think twice. Do you think otherwise? But if a kid mentions their mom and other mom and any questions or comments arise, you're square in the target zone of this law. It's about setting heteronormative people as the default, the "normal" ones, for whom talking about their family is acceptable, and sending the message that anyone not within the norm creates a "sexuality" discussion that can't be had. It's purposely vague and purposely insidious.
  21. they are intentionally conflating "sex"/gender/orientation with teaching sexuality. The fact of a person's identity doesn't include specific sexual information but they rely on the rubes to be unable to think that logically.
