  1. According to KXAN or something, Austin Public Health has a number to call to report a positive home test. Yeah, you call because apparently this is 1982 or something. Being the good citizen I am, I called to report my son's positive. But they actually don't have that listed as one of the options on the recorded menu, and then whichever button you push, you're just on hold forever and ever. Good work getting good data, everyone.
  2. So many of these I remember. Haven't read from the start, but Togos? South end of campus Guadalupe, they never carded. We went from either not being carded/having fake IDs in the early 90s, to having fake ID's being a terrorism offense 10 years later.... jeez. Same with El Chino's ... we were endlessly fascinated with the half Mexican/half Chinese menu, and even more so with the endless booze supply for the underage. Glad I experienced it and kind of glad that sort of thing has changed for my offspring (do as I say, not as I do if you want to survive). Polar Bear Ashburn's ..... always a stoner hangout. As a 3rd grader in Plano, our teacher took a small group of us there for lunch(?) as a reward or something. I think she was just picking something up...very cool teacher, looked a bit like a young Ann Wilson and had a FILTHY car with Kiss cassettes everywhere. Can you imagine going anywhere in a teacher's car now without express parental permission? By the way, this was probably about 1980 or'81, and the cool teacher's name was Phyllis. To help you understand how old we are.
  3. The milkman was blonde
  4. Because, voting should feel like punishment! (If you live in a city and/or in a certain demographic)
  5. Why should they have to, though, when there are other secure ways to vote?
  6. I tend to agree with your take and with your analogy, but please don't chuck rocks at or near armadillos any more .... that's just mean.
  7. Abbott's prayers are filled with pleas to let the plebes freeze next winter, not this winter. Just one more election cycle, oh Lord. Too CR?
  8. It is very obviously coincidental and not at all purposeful that we get Confederate Heroes' Day in the same week as MLK Day. Very smooth, Texas.
  9. KF94's for the win. A hell of a lot easier to wear all day long than 95's.
  10. Maybe they should re-zone then, because my kid's middle school was built for a capacity of 5-600 back in '55, and now has more than 1200 students.
  11. Wasn't he knee deep in some Ukraine shit? Wasn't he "Congressman 1?" Funny how nothing ever came from that.
  12. Do former US Presidents commonly endorse candidates for office in foreign countries?
  13. It makes me wonder if he know that 6-year-olds can't vote.
  14. Didn't Randy Moss quit in the middle of a game once?
  15. What horrific deeds did she do in her previous life for this karma -- to be tethered to this chode, have THREE kids under 5 with him (with the necessary sexual acts that probably occurred more than three times), and have cancer at her age? Fuck. She must have been a lesser demon.
  16. One of the worst both-sides I've seen
  17. No way a SCOTUS with any half-assed awareness of preserving its legitimacy would seize on Thompson's comment as any basis for its ruling. No way in hell. Therein lies the rub. How hacky will they get? There are certainly many things I never thought I'd see without any consequences resulting, so.....
  18. Yes, it's a "confession and avoidance" defense. The defendant admits to the elements of murder but asserts the legal justification of self-defense.
  19. Well the Boomers took all that and decided they earned it all on their own and fuck everyone else. It's literally the premise underlying MAGA ('cause everything was great back then) and fuck everyone who can't replicate their incredible un-earned privilege under the current circumstances that the Republicans have wrought since the 70s/80s.
  20. For one thing, a much bigger impact is the astronomical rise in college tuition/lessened state funding for state universities so that a BA is more out of reach for most without crushing student debt.
  21. So you are in favor of access to abortion, I take it.
  22. I guess the lack of upward mobility over the last several decades is just because people are lazy now, when they weren't before when we had policies that allowed for post-WW2 prosperity.
  23. "The father of three shouldn't have kids unless he can afford them. It's immoral to expect others to pay for the care of offspring you chose to have." Why do males always disappear from the equation? Singles mothers who are the ones actually taking care of these kids < single dads who may or may not have anything to do with offspring. Your bias is obvious. And I bet you're "pro-life" too because the women (only the women) chose to open their legs so it's on them. What a sickeningly narrow world view. Cue Sack: "I don't like deadbeat dads hurr durr"
