Made an impromptu Saturday night trip to 7 Grand this weekend and splurged on a pour of Widow Jane 10-year..... Had to look it up this morning after bc the bartender suggested it, and it was top-shelf, but my immediate thought was that it's smooth but I couldn't taste shit but a fuckton of wood/barrel. It's very well rated online, so maybe I'm not a man of culture and taste like I thought. Should've stuck to Weller 12 or maybe Eagle Rare for the pour. Also had a cigar going, so maybe that killed any lighter flavors that might've come through.
I think my expectations changed a lot after watching the final trailer (posted upthread). Watch that again and tell me it's sending you more than like 50% "horror" vibes. Compare that trailer to say... "A Quiet Place" or an "Insidious" movie, or hell, there's another Halloween movie that was in the trailers before Nope yesterday. If Horror is on a spectrum, this movie wasn't exactly marketed as straight horror.
Pereira and Coroso looked like exactly what we needed tonight. The difference between feeling the press and inviting it to make a quick move away from it, and the decision to try to slow down the press by holding the ball and trying to out-muscle them (Felipe/Ring). Felipe was such a bad choice for this matchup. And Tarbell..... man....
It's not horror, maybe a bit of a thriller. There's definitely a lot of suspense and drama, and it's an allegory. I liked it, thoroughly. Loved the sets, it has a western vibe, the acting is great, the pacing was good (I was into it from minute 1 and never really let up throughout the "wtf is going on" moments). I don't need my stories to be super linear, so if you prefer movies/stories like that, this won't be for you. Solid B+, mayyybe pushing an A- in my book, I had fun watching it. I do enjoy watching Daniel Kaluuya and Steven Yeun on screen though.
Is Colby still in recovery or is he shopping a fight? He's another guy I feel like UFC gives a pass. His last 5 wins, dating back 5 years, are a bunch of guys from the old guard, Maia, Dos Anjos, Lawler, Masvidal, Woodley. It's a whole new world in the Top 10 and yet some dudes kinda wiggle their way through the traffic.
Hate that they're feeding him to Khamzat. He didn't even want it.
After Khamzat vs Burns I'll at least be a bit excited about Khamzat being willing to stand and trade. He seemed to make a point about that against Gilbert, but I don't think Nate can handle that kinda ruggedness. Obvs if it gets to the ground Nate will get bullied.
I thought the first trailer gave me so little to work with, and it was overplayed to hell. This one feels like it gave me wayyy too much. But at least I have a better idea of what's coming. Still in.
Not surprised that people, in this very thread, have walked out of this movie.... but not everyone likes to feel uncomfortable for a bit before figuring out what's going on.
Went to see it a 2nd time before it leaves theaters, and it definitely still felt like it will be right up there during Oscar season, and every bit deserved. As far as best movies of the year goes, not sure how I'd vote if I had to between this and Top Gun.
Yup. Not expecting this team to overachieve like we did last year (compared to Vegas' thoughts on us). But if Keldon and Devin can improve a bit more, they could be worth watching to me. In valiant losing efforts.
Absolutely he has. But so has Finally, all he's literally done is hung in this league. Is Wolff, at his young age, up to making a difference in a game this intense? I hope so.
Is that the 2nd goal this month Cascante has given up bc a cross got through his legs? And then the one last game where he got manhandled by that dynamo. He's not Gabrielsen, that's for damn sure. Fml.
I watched every playoff series of his as a kid, and well into becoming a young man. And because of his greatness and ability to rise to the occasion, I knew immediately that guys like LaMarcus or Demar Derozan weren't nearly on his level. He would be locked in, and playing his ass off when it mattered most. If he wasn't shooting well, he'd be playing his ass off defensively..... nobody really has been able to replicate that since. Maybe Kawhi, but Kawhi had the examples all around him during that Spurs last championship season.
Arrived to the bar 20 minutes late and missed the beginning of the ass kicking! If Ethan Finlay, the guy that's most replaceable out on the wings or in attack in general, keeps raising the floor of this offense, we're going to be really good come playoffs. If someone, either Corozo or another signing, can outproduce him we'll really be rolling. Because he's starting to come along himself.
Interesting you said that.... Maybe I missed it..... But they had no problem explaining Jane Thor, because they just didn't. I couldn't tell you how or why she became Thor. Because Thor asked Mjolnir to protect her? I'm not sure, she just.... Was.
I gave it a not-so-solid B. It was alright. Funny in spots, but kinda hokey overall, and the kids started training after they fought for Thor, but we're battle-tested warriors on the spot? Good thing the God Killer had a bunch of kid-sized demons for them to battle against. Around that scene it really started to feel like a 9am cartoon (or a cereal commercial). Maybe that's what he wanted.
