  1. I have seen maybe 15 minutes over two games of Kornet and damn I like the guy already. I had no idea he was so athletic and can actually move laterally. Seems like a few years since we've had a 5 that can move laterally. Harper looks great. I can't believe we still have Sochan and Fox still to unleash. This season is going to be fun. Just watching today was fun. Castle and Kornet and Wemby looked like beasts on Defense.
  2. Yep. You're describing that "athletic" thing that the youtube film guy was talking about earlier in the thread. It's interesting that you say he's "beaten" by physics, when there's guys that are (basically) Stroh's size all over the NFL. Their genetics and/or baseline athleticism "beats" physics right back. NFL O linemen are routinely 6'5 - 6'7, but, very few of them are unable to squat down and play/move from that squat position. If he can't do it, it's not necessarily something that can be learned at this age, imo. It is much easier to move a 6'0, 250 lb high school defensive tackle than a 6'3 - 300 lb *athletic* defensive lineman that has the strength and quickness to avoid his hands and rip through a shoulder. Being able to move your feet, while holding strength in the legs, is absolutely crucial. I'm not sure all the potential in the world is there. He's like a baseball player with 2/5 tools. He has *some* potential, but not sure it's enough. He needs flexibility (is the body able to squat down and stay there?), and athleticism (can he do so quickly and powerfully?). Being big is a baseline. I'd gladly take a 6'3" guard if he could stop the man in front of him.
  3. I put a few bucks from my UUUU profits into WWR yesterday right before close. 24 hrs later it's up 50%. Is it almost stonking?
  4. Same with Rich Reddick in COE. I was a part of his grad program a decade ago. He's great, but feel like the teeth of that program have been filed down since he left. I'm not sure how much influence they'll have on anything in this committee.
  5. Just got back. 10/10. For 3 hours it never let up. Leo was great, Benicio was great, the daughter was great. The ending song coming after her grandmother said she comes from a long line of revolutionaries earlier in the movie was pretty cool. Nice tight knot on the "American Girl" being born of a distinctly Black experience. Leo was hilarious throughout. That scene before the dance was great. Him falling/failing to keep up with the carnales was also great.
  6. Maybe, but it's not hopeless. Compared to any other unit on the team, O line is also able to benefit from a puzzle piece or two. There's lots of cross training at IOL, and if a guy can play LT, usually he can switch over the RT easily. Getting a solid extra piece may mean a big difference in getting your 5 best guys on the OL and letting them develop now that you've assembled the puzzle. It's also much easier to deal with deficiencies like "this guy is a net positive in the running game, but struggles with pass blocking technique" vs. "this guy is 18 years old and just got manhandled by a 22 year old, 325 lb. monster". One of those can be mitigated easier than the other.
  7. Taaffe is surrounded by 1-year mercenaries and all-SEC guys who we had to "restructure contracts" to keep. And others who were all-SEC preseason but have more game-killing penalties than game-tilting big plays, 5 games into the season. Barron did a lot for this program. Before him, Whittington did a lot for this program. I really like Moore and hoped he'd be that guy this year, but it just doesn't seem like he's quite the player Whittington was. Not sure where else to look for the fire. And this was being said during the Ohio State game. This isn't a new revelation. Seeing Arch sitting on the sidelines, only down 7, talking to nobody, nobody hyping him up.... It's worrying. This is basic competitor shit. If you're down by 7 and felt like you should be at least tied, you're on the sideline trying to pull out some fire from your teammates........ Or you're just waiting for it to be over.
  8. It always seemed like the offense was the most likely to be a problem, but damn if I'm not completely deflated by our shit defensive performance. Our DT transfers looked like ACC players. Our All American linebackers get zero pressure. I don't know if Burke is still on the team. Guilbeau is always chasing down somebody who just burned him. Nobody to replace Mukuba 5 weeks into the season.
  9. Probably learning stupid TikTok dances with arch like they used to with Quinn
  10. I'm kinda with you, but also.... Quinn had 3 NFL-ready receivers to throw to and an NFL TE. Arch has a poor man's Helm (the next tackle Endries breaks will be the first) and a bunch of JAGs at receiver. Even Wingo is clearly a third of the route runner any of Worthy, Mitchell or Golden were.
  11. One of my early football memories is attending the Thanksgiving game where Creed performed at halftime. In the middle of their heyday and peak of their stardom. It's used as a meme now, and you can find the clips all over the internet for a cool little chuckle, but at 12-13 years old I fucking hated it. I had their CD on loop, so to hear the same mix and realize that they were half-assing a syncing I got pissed. I think that was when I found out that not all performances are live. It would certainly fit the bill of White America demanding artists that haven't had a hit in over two decades though. Back to the good ol' days or whatever.
  12. I'm mostly with you on this, but I don't agree that the cause is so linear. Around the same time, and probably in the decade before, our own state government started to drastically cut funding for our state institutions, which caused them to try and find that money elsewhere (tuition). The state government decided along the way that higher education is no longer worth nearly as much of our state funding, and from there, dominoes started to fall. Everything you described also could be called "privatization". They handed over yet another public service to private control in order to line someone's pockets. Capitalism has been gut-deep in higher ed for a bit longer than 2003. I can probably give some leeway to the argument that university budgets have also inflated over the years, especially in construction & building upgrades and staff.... but there's definitely an argument to be had about it. I don't think slashing budgets offsets how fucked the rest of the balance has become. That's one of those things where I think it becomes a recruiting issue. You better keep up with the joneses if you want to continue to be called a "great" school and public ivy or whatever. But...... that was also a few UT presidents ago and before a regime took over.
  13. Everything is a fucking shakedown to him. "Better access" to funding. Kiss the ring and daddy will let you set on his lap and give you a few dollars. Fucking disgusting. What a joke of an educational system we're going to have. International reputation for academic excellence? Ehhh, if God King says it's ok to teach, we'll teach it enthusiastically, otherwise, what is "knowledge" anyways. Smart people don't like him, so smart is actually dumb and education is gay.
  14. Son of a bitch. Played like ourselves for too long. Always reactive, no real creativity. Just hope Bukari or Uzuni gets behind the defense And can outrun them. And the amount of fucking passing between the back line ...
  15. Maybe Florida isn't a sleeping giant that is just waiting for us to give them a little bit of hope to unlock the 5-star, Top 15 talent that they have all over the field but couldn't unlock themselves without the generous help of By Gawd UT. Maybe we play a bit conservative, Arch throws for one and runs for one, has a solid, if unspectacular game, and the defense strangles their ass and makes them execute play after play as they try to slog their way to 3 points each drive. I trust Taaffe in center field if they want to go deep. I trust Pete K will be just fine taking away the deep ball and insisting they try to nickel and dime their way down the field. It's kinda what our Defense excels at. 20-13 Texas. Leave Florida with a win and prepare for a better matchup with a healthier WR and RB room ready to unleash some wrinkles.
  16. I think this is my realistic answer. But my ceiling as a fan is up to 55. If Vic gets hurt for any significant amount of time, then yeah 40ish is more likely. This team has so much more talent than the past 2 years.
  17. Speaking of Moody Center sucking shit, I'll be there in a few hours again to see Alabama Shakes. Always wanted to see them live, I'm going to bet that Brittany Howard has less problems projecting through the microphone than Leon.
  18. I thought the mix was a bit off in general, some of the songs were missing the great bass lines that kinda make the songs, especially the ones from his 2nd album and the Khruangbin songs. Unless the band just didn't want to touch that. It didn't sound great to me either, so maybe your hearing is fine. I'm right there with you on Charley. That's what bothers me about him, and I'm trying to come around, but having so much family in the RGV and hearing him call himself the San Benito kid when he lived there until he was 9 makes me roll my eyes. His family moved north to Dallas and I'm 1000% sure ain't never been back, a tale as valley as any, but he seems to hang on to any persona he can grasp. None the less.... the music is alright sometimes and I did like his live show.
  19. Got a chance to see the Leon Bridges/Charley Crockett tour last night. Loved Leon's set. I'm a big fan of the funk/soul that he does, and he played plenty of the danceable upbeat songs I was hoping for. Pretty much every non "Beyond" and "River" hit that I hoped to hear was played, including the jams from his Khruangbin collabs. Great set. Charley is very slowly growing on me, but I still haven't played a full album from him yet, just still haven't gotten all the way into his vibe. Pretty decent performer though.
  20. Been in both UUUU and IBRX long enough to remember the morning that IBRX hit $40+. UUUU is my biggest position, thanks to this thread/Harrison (albeit at less than a fraction of the shares as others here). I just pulled out my initial investment and pondering how long to watch this ride. While also accepting that nuclear energy is a much more safe long-term bet than pharmaceuticals. But seeing IBRX hit $44 and hold it long enough to see it now at $2.65 will do a lot to a man. I think I might lasso in the rest of my UUUU profits in the low 20s.
  21. I am actually looking forward to the Vandy game at home. A month away from home, against a possibly Top 25 SEC team? I think we'll be plenty lit. Pavia is a CFB household name now, I trust our fans to know what we're up against that game. If Vandy goes 0-3 before us, it could hurt the expectations of the game, but it would also tell us a lot about who they really are. So be it, in that case.
  22. That's wtf I'm sayin!!! Uzuni and Bukari tried their best to eff up all our chances in the last 10 minutes, but youth prevails. Fodrey put one in Uzuni's lap and stole the win! Let's go!
  23. A lot of this stuff is reminding me of the supposed meme-ish messages left by the Uvalde shooter. IIRC there was a lot of slang used in that attack too. If we're using "blackpilled" I guess that's the name for it.
  24. I don't know where tf to grasp hope from. This shit is coming together here pretty soon when whatever plan they have in place to make sure Trump gets his 3rd term (and then 4th and then 5th bc he will never die) culminates. Pretty sure Kirk is fitting nicely into his plans, whether it was foreseen by them or not, they are taking advantage. I log in to twitter and Musk has his personal propaganda machine just openly stating that Kirk was killed by "leftists" like it's fact. The media can't push back because they bought the media decades ago, and they're already gathered all the corporations like the infinity stones. There isn't a leader with a sack in the Democratic party to fight within the confines of whatever is left of the political system. There's fucking nothing. Since the moment he died they've bene out spouting lies in front of every camera that will record them, and who tf is left to push back? Little internet holes that cater to the types of people net-savvy enough to read Surly? I was counting on Arch to give me some great distractions this year. So much for that shit. And apparently the only person that will outlive Trump is Jerry Jones. Could this be any more fucked?
  25. I'm coming around more and more to the idea that the kid doesn't have that fire upstairs. I wanted to give him time to prove it, especially after his time last year running against A&M and UTSA. He got up from those runs with a fire, and showed me he wanted to compete. But now I see him like Ewers used to be, on the sidelines on the bench hiding from the pressure trying to catch his breath. I've heard nothing from reports that he's the leader of the team, or owns this team. And seen nothing from him that would make me think he's steering anything on this offense. That's most worrisome to me. If it is indeed lacking upstairs, it's over. Can he find a fire? Can he find some gumption?
