  1. UUUU and NOVN giving me life after a slow ~10 days (and snopocalypse). What the hell is up with NK though? Back under $30.
  2. Good win with a couple guys still missing and a new lineup with LaMarcus coming off the bench.
  3. In the first half I thought to myself he's the only big we have that actually has an idea of how to play with his back to the basket. He's just slow at doing it, and Tech is now swarming him when he gets it in the post. Brown and Kai are worse on the block. No idea of how to play with their back to the basket, their only move is to try to face up asap and attempt to blow by the defender. Big men with multiple skills are at a premium in 2021 basketball. We got a bunch with limited skills.
  4. Jones losing McClung on that 3 is boneheaded. McClung pushed and we had 2 on 2, Jones guarded nobody in the corner and gave up the open 3.
  5. When all 3 guards play shitty, we suck, and when all 3 are playing well, we kick ass. Interdasting.
  6. Cumbia did it for me. No lessons, just youtube and losing the fear of looking stupid. COVID has really ruined that spigot though. Also been laid after a night at the White Horse, pretending to know how to dance country/honky-tonk while really just recycling the same cumbia spins.
  7. You and me both. I jumped in blind to be an idiot last week and ride the reddit wave on AMC/GME, and since I had RH installed I just got outta that nonsense and put a few hundred bucks into UUUU and NK (and a few more into NOVN). Don't have much to "gamble" but I can spare a bit now as I learn some more in this new world of stonks. There's not really any other place I'd trust internet strangers more than Surly. The first week was anxiety-riddled, but now that I've settled on those three I feel comfortable and just going to let it sit finally. Not a gambler at all, so I think the long-plays are better for me. Just wish RH had AMYZF. Edit: The point of this post was basically thanks for the advice, Surly Stonk overlords.
  8. Have a few shoeboxes myself, and another few handfuls in the hard plastic protectors that are my "good" cards. I was a 90s kid and collected a bunch with friends until they got bored of it around high school. Spent a few years on internet message boards doing the mail thing, then college came and Austin was cooler than cards. So many years and retail packs and really the only ones I really care about these days are my 8-12 Tim Duncan rookies. I bought another off eBay for $30 a couple months ago (thanks stimmy!) to satisfy that itch of opening a pack I get every couple years. But yeah it's so different now, I want to get a box because I never had the money to get a good box as a kid, but the 40 different variations of Prisms now are a complete turnoff. I do regret a few I traded away, Kobe rc, Peyton Manning rc, Randy Moss rc, etc., but the Timmy's were always untouchable.
  9. Fully expecting an L tonight, because we play like shit on the back end of B2B, but the upcoming schedule looks prime for a run. Looks like the next 8 games are all against sub .500 teams (and the Pacers, who are right at). This team hasn't exactly been taking care of business against shitty teams last year and this year though, so who knows, could go 4-4 during this stretch.
  10. It was a great choice. Whoever is making decisions for him is making good ones. He gets to say he fought a "professional". Technically. I guess. Hope Askren can take him to deeper waters and punish his ass with those stupid punches he throws though.
  11. Interesting reactions. I generally like The Weeknd, been a fan of his since about 2012 when he dropped his mixtapes without revealing his identity. Surprisingly, I agree that his charisma is about as high now as it was then (with literally no identity) But his music hits some notes that there aren't much of in today's music. He can do the R&B thing, heavy on the synth-beats and loops (which I'd assume catches some EDM crowd), and then recently added unashamed pop music to his repertoire to catch the youngs. It's probably better than he doesn't have much charisma/personality though, he's literally made a career singing about cocaine, partying, strippers, cheating on girlfriends, and doing cocaine at parties with the strippers that he's cheating on his girlfriends with. The performance was ok. I can't stand the medleys though, one verse from each song that I can't imagine would make anybody a fan. You can hardly get a vibe from any of them. Otherwise I've seen reactions that he needed a stage, that the stage-less design was cool since he used the field, and now that he didn't use enough of the field. Can't please everyone.
  12. Fuck, man. Ferreira lives/trains out of the RGV, was hoping for this win for him. They both showed out though. Both can do a bit of everything well, but I'm not sure they're the polished strikers that can compete against the Top 5 guys. Dariush vs. Hooker would set my pee pee on fire.
  13. Ain't got but a few hundred in an online savings account (a few bucks a week), but it seems like this would be the way to go instead of the .40% interest route. I'm in, later Barclays.
  14. Both DJM and Keldon are shooting 25% from 3 in the last 10 games. Everyone seemingly started off hot the first month of the season, no we're seeing some regression to the mean. They gotta wind up in the high 30s for this team to have a shot on offense.
  15. This team can be so fun to watch, they just don't bring it every night. Bad Patty, old LaMarcus, ho-hum DeMar. The young guys bring it, even if they're not quite ready to be getting tons of looks every game, they play hard. Anyways, tonight is fun. Let's keep fighting.
  16. Because we don't have enough money for other people to touch ourselves at night.
  17. Nothing against you bc obvs I don't know you, but I can't stand this type of talk from Conor fans. What era of Conor are we referring to when people say stuff like "when Conor is hungry" or "in the zone"? When he was beating up 145 pounders? Bc since then he's only beaten Eddie Alvarez (not in ufc anymore), and an old as shit Cowboy Cerrone. I guess we count the split decision against Diaz in the 2nd fight. He's not the big shot guy he thinks he is at 155, and it's a shame Dana let him get here without having to fight Oliveira, Gaethje, or even Poirier until last night. He beat Cowboy and then showed up at the top again. It's BS.
  18. That counter seemed like it was coming since about the first 30 seconds. Every time Ponzinibbio tried to commit to a punch, Li was throwing a hard counter, and fast. Looked like he had wayyyy better timing in there, and it paid off.
  19. For the past 30 minutes I've been able to hear a chopper circling the Capitol from my front porch on the East side. They are indeed not fucking around. According to twitter there's not much more than a handful of armed clowns out there now though? Still is weird to hear the chopper and know why it's been circling. Could also be media though, who knows.
  20. Tested positive after the new year, got it probably right around New Year's eve in the valley. Ending my quarantine, per CDC guidelines today. Felt first symptoms last Tuesday, Wednesday/Thursday I had a real light fever for a couple hours a day (to where I was warm, but constantly questioning whether I was just making shit up), a couple random body aches where I don't have normal problems (my hip hurt in an area I've never felt before, for one day), but on day 3 until now (day 11) it's basically been like the ending of a cold. Just getting rid of congestion. Ran a couple miles twice this week, feel great. Lucky, went to visit my family in the valley and 3 of them got it too. I was the only addition to the household for the holiday, but luckily I didn't bring it, we got it there. Nobody got really sick, luckily. A few people have asked me if I've gotten a negative test, but I'm going with the CDC on this. 10 days from first symptoms, as long as you've improved and haven't had a fever. The test doesn't measure if you're contagious, it just looks for traces of the virus (active or inactive), so those aren't "false" negatives, they're just not telling you if you're contagious. /rant.

    Midland

Holy shit, had a hunch about these dudes moving from Cali to Dripping Springs and calling themselves "Midland" (obviously I originally thought they might be from that area). This thread really delivered. Didn't know who to discuss this with. Just found them a couple months ago. Anyway, like a few of their songs, they're definitely catchy, but some of their lines and sounds just kinda make me laugh. I love "drinkin problems" as a song, but can't get over how shitty of a song it is at the same time. The over-the-top twangs and WOWWW-WOWWWWWWWWWWs, the lazy as hell lyrical repeats, but it's so damn catchy and sounds just like something I might have two-stepped slowly to in the 80s. But I guess that's what it's designed to do right? Even a few of the melodies and lyrics sound like they were snippets lifted directly off other country songs I've heard before. Not sure if I'll continue listening to them. I'm a bit of a music hipster and hate the thought of unoriginal shit, whatever. I grew up on about as much late 80s/early 90s George Strait, Clint Black, Mark Chesnutt as my Tejano dad would play me, but don't really claim to be a country fan at all these days. I try to give it a go once in a while. Not sure I'll stick with these dudes.

    Deftones

Checking in a bit late, but checking in. I didn't join the bandwagon until maybe 5 years ago, only around then did I start getting into deeper rock anyway. Listen to White Pony fairly often, especially while working out. Don't mind the new albums (Ohms), it sounds so much like a continuation of their style, so yeah I agree they are consistent. Interesting that they invited Chvrches to their Dia de los Deftones show (tour?), they don't seem like a natural pairing. I saw them both at a SXSW concert in 2018 I think. It was a show put on by Spin magazine, and Deftones "opened" for Chvrches (as much as anybody really "opens" for anybody at SXSW), I left after a couple of Chvrches songs. Anyway, that show solidified me as a fan. Yeah Chino doesn't sound as great as he does on the albums, but I was genuinely impressed with the energy and his singing at Stubb's. Good show. Rocked hard.
  23. Reminds me of a good tweet a couple months ago, wish I could find it. A bunch of the RGV adults were commenting on that kid from Edinburg that ran over the Ref. "He ruined his team's chance to compete for a State Title!". Some valley girl: "Calm down. He ruined his team's chance to dye their hair blonde and lose 77-6 in the 3rd round to a team from north of San Antonio".
  24. Juuuust thinking about this. Father's family is from Kingsville so I grew up going to as many Javelina games as Longhorns...... and that program hasn't been a major player (DII obvs) since the early 2000s it seems. This definitely can't help.
