    USMNT 2023

Someone who knows way more about soccer than me said it was less about moving away from GB’s system and much more about putting people in the right position. The 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 aren’t that different and technically we were probably something more like 4-2-1-2-1. But it’s all fluid. The key is having the right people on the wings and in the center. Pulisic is a legend for us already, but plays best on the left. Weah needs to start. Gio should never come off the field when healthy and it’s a close game. Gregg could never figure it out because he didn’t know how to manage egos. And setting aside Gio’s tantrum, which is on him and he needs to learn from it, it has become apparent that GB was just plain wrong deciding Gio should come off the bench in November. So GB outsmarting himself tactically led to a crisis we didn’t need to have. Going forward, breaking up MMA is going to take some experienced ego management that I am not sure he has the stomach/intuition to handle correctly. We shall see.

Prior three posts all explain why this hire was indefensible 6 months in. You want to do it in February after Reyna stuff cooled down? Id bedisappointed but can live with it. Rehiring him now now is just dumb. Yeah some players are backing him but they were clearly ok moving on as well, or there would have been more of a groundswell immediately after the Reyna fiasco. We are stuck with, now, though. Maybe Gregg grows from this and he doesn’t get in the way over the next cycle. Beat Canada.
  4. Loch Henry didn’t seem like. Slack Mirror but I liked it. Joan is Awful was classic Black Mirror. Awesome. Did not like Beyond the Sea. I don’t like most of the humorless episodes.

This. If Gio isn’t in the middle behind our 9 we are limiting this team. The only excuse, and it’s still a bad one because it’s still on the coach, is if the rest of the team hates Gio It’s been said multiple times, but seeing Weah and Balogun on right in a two man game with Pulisic free on left and Gio running the show is the best version of this team. By far. I get that it was just one game against a shitty Mexico team but it still wasn’t Grenada and it should have been 5-0. Put Adams back there destroying shit like he did for Leeds, with McKennie, Aaronson, and De La Torre (who I really like) off the bench in MF and we are super deep. If Pepe can become dangerous as well and not follow the Altidore path as most of our strikers seem to do and wow In next 3 years one or two of that ideal starting 11 will fall out of form/be hurt enough to not be playable. But then there are guys like Tillman and the guys on the under 20 team that will play themselves into spots. It’s fucking exciting, but the first time I see Gio on bench or in the right or left I’m going to know we’ve learned nothing.

I love McKennie and what he has meant but presuming Balogun is the real deal our best lineup is: Balogun Pulisic Reyna Weah Adams Musah Jedi Richards Robinson Dest Turner I will be flexible on back line if others have preferences and I really hope Scally becomes a force.

Unfortunately I think it’s fake news. One of the reporters in Mexico ran with that tweet and was flamed for reporting false info. Too bad. Imagine if TA was out there.

Starting tonight, we play our biggest rival in the final. Let’s move past El Tri. Canada is better than them now.

I pulled up ESPN here in Mexico and hit translate. It was awesome…. Some highlights: “Mexican ineffectiveness is a suicidal invitation for the adversary. And the United States wastes the 23rd. Christian Pulisic in the box, taking out his lapdog Edson Álvarez, but on the final shot, he sends it over.” “At 90 seconds into the second half, Mexico is violated again. Jesús Gallardo only sees Tim Weah's catalytic converter, who goes deep, after a play orchestrated from his field. Pulisic appears again in the center, with guards that are more distracted, coarser, more goofy and slow in head and foot. 2-0.” ”Mexico remained in the same line of shipwreck. The players tried to do individual feats, but without being trained for it. The United States felt more comfortable than ever in history against a Mexican team, to the point that they even seemed to feel sorry for them.”

That’s tongue and cheek partly because I love that gif. But I have no confidence Greg isn’t going to outsmart himself. Pepi isn’t a fan either. It’s such a tone deaf move by the Federation.

So hopefully Ferreira never gets meaningful USMNT time again tho, right?

Would be funny if Mexico can’t play in 2026 World Cup.

Putting Aaronson out there is likely to draw another red. He’s one to annoy the fuck out of someone.

So I guess USSF just doesn’t give a shit. Hire the guy back that has a toxic relationship with the most talented player in our history. Seems right. I mean, talk about not reading the room. Hopefully more people follow Deuce’s lead. It won’t change anything but more likely to get him fired pre-World Cup when he runs his Austin FC system.

Watching in Cabo. We should play Mexico here. Same effect as playing them in the Rose Bowl because it’s 80% Americans.
  21. I’ll be completely honest here. In some ways, this is better. It’s implicit admission and makes him look like a coward. I am probably in the minority on that but we could start paying attention to the important things again if he were to hightail it. Sure the press would spend their 5 minutes here and there nightly on it. But it essentially ends him as a politician here.
  22. Ok. But that second team QB is going to get us a winning record and a good bowl game even with a defense coached by peak Manny _iaz with assistance from Aggie era Torbush. And the alternative is getting intentionally Marshalled into a Mountain, so I’ll take it Analogy gone too far I guess….
  23. Fuck that. Biden has been as effective as possible give the insane asylum in the House. And any Dem or moderate that thinks different is a fucking concern troll.
  24. The problem is that even if the other 4 or 5 candidates take away 1/2 of Trump’s current baseline with GOP, they are still splitting it and Trump still wins a plurality. They are playing a game of chicken with the hope that DJT has to drop out and the one that quasi supports him the longest sweeps up his base. It’s a fucking tontine for his voters.
  25. So I realize the interview gets shut down immediately, but would love to see someone say... "Senator Graham, I need time to set up this next question so I am going to mute your mic. You said X, Y, and Z about Trump in 2015 and 2016. You did not like the man at the time and thought he'd be bad for the country. There areample public and private statements to that fact. At some point, your public support of Trump took a 180 such that you are proliferating what we all, including you, know are lies.... or for the sake of decorum, we'll call them the Republican view of things. All of that leads me to ask, Senator Graham, what do Trump and his allies have on you that would create such a dynamic shift, and why does it include pictures of moles on your ass?" Then let the body language experts take it from there. They are usually right.
