Skinner is a Jekyll and Hyde goalie. He's capable of playing incredibly in net and he can also look like the EBUG at other times. I think that's why the Oilers have not moved on completely yet.
There are three goals that went in and probably two of the three shouldn't. He never saw Miro's goal. But it was a lazy wrister from just inside the blue line with traffic in front. Three different Oilers failed to block it with their body. Skinner said he was looking to the left of the screener to which I say, "Why?" The puck was on the outside. The shot is going to come from the outside. Again, that was just as much on the Oilers defenders not blocking the shot with their body. Granlund's goal was a laser. Nothing to see here. Blame the careless Edmonton penalty. Duchene's goal was just awful. Skinner got completely turned upside down in the scrum and it left a wide-open net for Duchene, who flubbed the first shot into Roope's back. That should've been it. Skinner should've recovered at that point and not given Duchene a second chance. That was a bad goal. Finally, the Steel-to-Seguin goal was started with a great play by Steel but I would hope the goalie for a Stanley Cup contender will make a stop like that at a crucial moment. Not saying it was a bad goal but I don't think it was an impossible stop like trying to stop Granlund's tally.
The bottom line is Edmonton has a real problem on their hands if Skinner can't play better. We don't know Pickard's status. And, honestly, who the fuck is Calvin Pickard? He's a 33-year-old career journeyman/backup goalie.
