  2. Great info found by @Fud (pretty damn accurate) From Daniel Jeremiah annual Q&A conference call with industry reporters "Ewers... there's a few guys that are on my list to go back after the combine and go back to '23 tape because.. I know he wasnt' healthy this year but he didn't take the step I was hoping he'd take.. he is still young at 21, hes' got quick feet quick release.. he just got into a lot of bad habits, I didn't think he played with any convinction, not trusting what he's seeing, just really sloppy with his feet, and everything kind of got away from him.. the team had tremendous success and he obviously made some big time throws in the playoffs, but.. overall not the step forward I was hoping for him"

  14. Nebraska sets staff salaries heading into Matt Rhule's third season What's notable about Rhule's staff is not the salaries, but its size. Zach Barnett Feb 13, 2025 Nebraska got over the hump in Matt Rhule's second season, improving from five wins to seven and returning to a bowl game for the first time since 2016. Now the Huskers are bracing for Third Year Matt Rhule: a phenomenon that saw Temple jump from six wins to 10, and Baylor grow from seven wins to 11. Ahead of what's surely a breakthrough season on the horizon -- there's no way Nebraska football can break its fan base's hearts* -- we know how much the Cornhuskers will pay Rhule's staff in 2025. Tight ends coach Marcus Satterfield, demoted from offensive coordinator midseason in 2024, will be the highest paid coach on the staff at $1.4 million, followed by offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and his $1.2 million salary. New defensive coordinator John Butler, promoted after one season as Big Red's secondary coach, checks in at third place with a $1 million salary. Butler takes over for Tony White, who earned $1.6 million in 2024. White is now Florida State's defensive coordinator. Addison Williams is now coaching the secondary, replacing Butler, at a $625,000 salary. Butler made $700,000 to coach Nebraska's secondary in 2024. New defensive line coach Terry Bradden will make $400,000, and identical figure to what Terrance Knighton made to coach that group last season. Knighton joined White at Florida State. Phil Simpson, who returned to Nebraska after a year as an analyst at Florida State, will make $350,000 in 2025. New wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts will earn $400,000, a sharp increase from the $114,000 Garret McGuire made coaching the position in 2024. McGuire is now Texas Tech's running backs coach. Rhule's own salary grows by $1 million as part of the 8-year, $74 million deal he signed upon taking the job. He'll make $1 million more in 2026, then get a $1.5 million bump in 2027 on his way to an eventual $12.5 million salary in 2030. Most notable about Rhule's staff is not the salaries, but its size. With two "walk-around" coordinators, a stand-alone special teams coordinator and an associate head coach, Nebraska has 14 coaches that either serve as coordinators or position coaches. Via Husker Online, here is the salary information for Nebraska's 2025 coaching staff, all numbers rounded to the nearest thousand. * Via ESPN's David Hale: Nebraska is 20-48 in 1-score games since 2014, which is 11 more losses than the next-closest FBS program (Iowa State, 37). That includes a 2-5 mark in 2024

Miami swiping key assistant away from in-state rival Florida secondary coach is expected to take a similar role at Miami, per a report. Zach Barnett Feb 13, 2025 Florida secondary coach Will Harris is expected to join Miami's staff, according to a report Thursday from CBS Sports. Harris, 36, spent one season at Florida after coming aboard from the LA Chargers. He spent 2022 as the defensive coordinator at Georgia Southern, and 2018-21 coaching defensive backs at Washington. Washington's 2021 secondary was among the best in the nation, leading the nation in yards and touchdown passes allowed while ranking third in passing efficiency. The former USC defensive back got his start in 2013 as the secondary coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State. He's also tutored secondaries at Humboldt State, Dixie State and San Jose State. He'll join a re-made defensive staff that saw the nation's No. 1 total, per play and scoring offense undone by a defense that could not get off the field. The Hurricanes allowed 25.3 points per game on the season, but 42 apiece in season-ending losses to Syracuse and Iowa State. The former knocked Miami out of the College Football Playoff. Minnesota's Corey Heatherman was hired last month as Miami's new defensive coordinator, and now Mario Cristobal has another key piece as he looks to bring Miami back to the nationally elite.

  18. Sources: Notre Dame offers General Manager role to Detroit Lions's Mike Martin Notre Dame is seeking to hire Martin as G.M., Auburn's Kenyatta Watson in recruiting John Brice Feb 14, 2025 Notre Dame is close to filling its general manager role left vacant last month when Chad Bowden exited the Fighting Irish football program for the same role at USC. Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that the Irish and Marcus Freeman have offered their general manager role to the Detroit Lions's Mike Martin. In fact, Notre Dame hosted Martin and his wife, Cari, from Tuesday through early Thursday this week on the South Bend, Indiana, campus. A former Vanderbilt football player, Martin has some two decades' experience in the NFL. He's been Detroit's director of scouting advancement for the past four seasons. Prior to that, Martin worked for the NFL's Carolina Panthers as an area scout from 2018-20 and he logged 11 seasons with the Houston Texans, eventually climbing to the role of assistant director of college scouting. The Irish hosted Martin on campus, also housing him at the Morris Inn as they had done recently with Texas Tech's James Blanchard, who turned down the Irish's multi-year offer for their G.M. role. During his visit this week to Notre Dame, Martin met individually with Irish athletics director Pete Bevacqua, the school's top NIL official in Scott Connors, was scheduled for a three-hour meeting with Freeman and then joined Bevacqua, Freeman and select others inside Notre Dame Stadium's Schivarelli Lounge for dinner Wednesday night. Sources told FootballScoop that Martin was offered a multi-year deal worth more than $500,000 annually, plus bonus incentives. In addition to those individual meetings that were scheduled for Martin's time on the Notre Dame campus, he also was set to meet with the remaining members of Notre Dame's recruiting department: Carter Auman, Caleb Davis, Deland McCullough II and Becca Sites. Also, Martin was expected to meet with analytics guru Anthony Treash and Matt Jansen -- Notre Dame's director of scouting with whom Martin previously worked for the Houston Texans. Watson, among the most prominent recruiting and personnel figures in the Southeastern Conference footprint, also was scheduled to visit midweek with his wife but did not make the trip. However, several sources told FootballScoop that Watson has been offered the top recruiting position in the Notre Dame football program, a director of player personnel/director of recruiting-type of role. A final decision is expected in the coming days; sources with direct knowledge this week told FootballScoop that Auburn recently elevated the pay of Watson, who is the school's director of recruiting research and strategy, and was prepared to again fight to keep Watson. ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported that Notre Dame was working to finalize a deal with Martin.
  19. Georgia and Kirby Smart reportedly promoting former FBS defensive coordinator to on-field role Doug Samuels Feb 14, 2025 In a trend we're seeing across college football with the 10 on-field assistants now a thing of the past, a lot of programs are designating coaches for the nickel position. That's what Kirby Smart and Georgia are doing with former Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Andrew Thacker, per CBS Sports. Thacker landed on his feet in Athens last year as an analyst, and CBS Sports shares that he was a target for another top program this cycle, but Smarty and the Dawgs are holding onto him with the promotion. A former defensive coordinator with stops calling the plays at Georgia Tech under both Geoff Collins and Brent Key, Thacker also served as the defensive coordinator for a season at Temple with Collins. He brings experience working with both safeties and linebackers at the FBS level, previously working in the secondary at UCF and Southern Miss before moving to linebackers at Kennesaw State and Temple. This fall will mark Thacker's second season with Georgia, and his first in an official on-field role. Stay tuned
  20. Texas approves raise, extensions for Steve Sarkisian and two assistants Twenty-five wins in two seasons has netted two raises and extensions in two seasons. Zach Barnett 10 hours ago Steve Sarkisian agreed to an extension to remain at Texas amid interest from two NFL franchises last month, and on Saturday we got details of that extension. Sarkisian received a modest raise while having a year tacked on to the end of his deal, according to documents obtained from Inside Texas. The previous deal -- agreed to after Texas broke through with a Big 12 championship and a College Football Playoff berth, and after Nick Saban retired -- lasted through 2030 and would have paid him $10.4 million in 2025. Now, Sarkisian is under contract through 2031 and will earn $10.8 million this year. Where the previous deal called for $100,000 annual raises, Sarkisian will now make an additional $150 grand per year, topping him out at $12.3 million in 2031. Sarkisian, of course, will never see the end of his current contract. He'll either win his way to an entirely new contract or an NFL offer he can't refuse, or he won't and Texas will have a new head coach by the time 2031 rolls around. But the point of Saturday's news is a vow renewal: Sarkisian is happy with Texas, and Texas is happy with Sarkisian. After a 13-12 start, Texas is 25-5 overall, 16-3 in conference play, 1-1 in conference title games, and was the only program to make the CFP in 2023 and '24. Elsewhere, UT regents also approved a 1-year extension for assistant head coach, special teams coordinator and tight ends coach Jeff Banks. He will still earn his scheduled $1.2 million in 2025 and $1.25 million in '26, but is now set to earn $1.3 million in 2027. Texas also awarded a raise and extension to Johnny Nansen, hired in 2024 as co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach. Scheduled to make $925,000 in 2025, Nansen will now earn $1.1 million and is now on the hook to make $1.2 million in 2026. Banks and Nansen were the only assistants awarded raises and/or extensions on Saturday, but the UT regents are not done approving money to Sarkisian's staff this winter. Sarkisian hired Mark Orphey to coach cornerbacks following Blake Gideon's departure for the Georgia Tech defensive coordinator job; the running backs job is open following Tashard Choice taking the same job with the Detroit Lions; and the agents of Sark's remaining assistants are assuredly singing their client's praises following a season that saw the Longhorns win 13 games and send 14 players to the NFL combine.
