  1. Are you pretending to be stupider than your screen name, or are you merely perverse?
  2. The last couple of weekends we've seen Meyer grinning and head-ducking when Texas and Austin were brought into the conversations. Last week when he was asked pointedly about Austin, his reply was "I'm thinking about it." I don't know how much more one needs, for the reality to sink in.
  3. Well, we do have some tight ends, supposably.
  4. It's not necessary to villify [SIC] a person. But it's Surly, so it's all in fun. And it's Herman, so it's even more fun to poke at the wounded guy who's spent the last four years making sure everyone knows he's the smartest guy in the room and his apparent "failures" are due to bad luck and sabotage from the stupid fans.
  5. The question seems to be whether Sam generally has been taking too long to stop looking for an open receiver and either run or throw the ball away, not what down it happens on. If you want to argue about the down, you need to go ahead and make a decent analysis and take all of the game variables into account. What period are we in? Are we ahead or behind? What's the field position? What formation are we in? What routes are the receivers running? Who are the receivers? Why aren't they open? Has Sam been told not to run or scramble at this point in the game? Is he in the tackle box or outside it? I have no doubt you can find many more salient points, so get right to it.

    RIP Hal Ketchum

This hurts. Loved his voice, loved his lyrics. Damn it.
  7. As opposed to fisting tails? You don't believe in Pope Urban, either?
  8. Ooooh... better make that a double check on it.
  9. Add historical knowledge to your list of shortcomings.
  10. Your attention span is lower than your grammar IQ. Or you're disturbingly adrift from reality. Or both.
  11. *on *to Unless you are channeling futureman?
  12. Unfortunately, we'll be driving home from CO on Friday. New truck has the Sirius full package, so maybe the audio will be on. Who is calling the game?
  13. I never cared much for McConaughey, until True Detective S1. Even Woody did a creditable job in that.
  14. Thanks! That's all it needs. Adjustable, gas stove burner heat. Great. The stuff they don't tell you on Instant Pot sites.. . .
  15. Instant Pot Gumbo -- Last tip: USE LESS LIQUID than usual. The liquid doesn't cook down. But the pressurizing blends flavors in its own distinct and very effective way.
  16. If this is about Instant Pot gumbo: YES! Damn, I wish I had looked at that post before diving in. I chopped and chopped for one day; cooked it the next day. Shoulda used less liquid than the recipe from Emeril suggested. Came out a little bland and cajun hot at the same time. Stews, including gumbo, are so amenable to tweaking. Day two, much better. The other mistake was not knowing how to increase the saute temp. I learned today to hit the saute button twice. All in all, the gumbo-like-stew hit the spot for our first freezing weather of the year.
  17. Gumbo for the Holidays, using Instant Pot Duo, 6 quart. I combined two recipes: the tried and true Emeril (who draws from Paul Prudhomme, R.I.P.) for the roux directions, and for the ingredients and the sequencing of ingredients. Second recipe came from an online Instant Pot random find. The saute temp was a little too low for the roux. But I later discovered I could hit the saute button twice, to increase the temp. No time time nor energy to make Emeril's chicken stock, but will do so later, to keep around as a staple. Okra has to go in after pressure cooking, on a quick, high temp saute setting that heats up quickly and bubbly, with the double hit of the button.. I cooked the rice on standard stove top. Organic Brown Basmati. I used 4 quarts of liquid. Less would be better. There's no shrinkage. .Truth told, it's not Louis gumbo, this first time with Instant Pot, because of the saute heat for the roux, but (1) I can continue tweaking it, and (2) a cold front came in and this gumbo hits the spot. https://emerils.com/129273/chicken-and-andouille-gumbo https://www.favfamilyrecipes.com/instant-pot-gumbo/
  18. For Christmas, I'm cooking gumbo in my new and wondrous Instant Pot. It brings flavors together in a way I haven't tasted since my mother's cooking in her pressure cooker. Will post pictures. Only worry is how fast the heat rises for saute. And, of course, the inability to play with the temp. What the heck. I already cooked a rib roast last night. Let the feasting begin!
  19. Charlie's degeneration before our very eyes sure smacked of CTE. Some kind of cognitive diminution. Damn, I wish he'd quit coaching and enjoy his 25 million while he still knows his kids' names. (Remember "My man 18"?)
  20. Football is entertainment. The impresarios who run the shows set the matchups, at every level. Big 12 officials knew full well that Oklahoma is/was their only shot at the Final Four, so there was never any doubt that the officiating would be slanted toward making that happen. Most of our penalties were deserved, although all of us can point out the couple of bullshit calls, but the real slant was the Oklahoma was allowed to hold on both sides of the ball, with never a call.
  21. Back in grad school, I shared an office with a Notre Dame grad. He knew jack shit about sports of any kind, was headed for the priesthood until he discovered he loved Physics more than he loved Jesus. Told me he knew two things about football. 1. Notre Dame is always the best team. Always. 2. Notre Dame has the only players who take a pay cut when they turn Pro. /csb
