  1. Wow, I can't believe there are people (a person) arguing against getting out of the floodplain to higher ground when a flood is coming.
  2. Thanks! If anyone else is going let us know. If anyone in N Austin wants to carpool let me know.
  3. Think of it like Uncle Henry, Hunk, Zeke, Hickory and Aunt ‘Em all getting in the shelter but the girl goes chasing a dog so she gets flung around. Without the mitigation mechanism (shelter) they’re all in a shitstorm but with the shelter or warning siren some people will do the appropriate things. Don’t think of it as an all or nothing but as an effective means to reduce loss of life. We see it with Hurricanes too. Warn people to evacuate and the reasonable ones will. You can’t stop saving the majority of people because of the few who aren’t going to listen.
  4. I've owned a bit of stock in the largest US Copper Mining company for a while. Just a commodity play. But the second largest mine in the US is owned by an international firm. Does that count as US Copper too? I guess it's like US Steel owned by Japan.
  5. Is there any other kind?
  6. Cross posting this cleanup opportunity: Center Point cleanup details. Center point is a smaller town on the east end of Kerr county and several people have told me they are not getting as much help as other places. The volunteer process is to check in at the VFD at 8:00 am and they send teams out starting at 8:30-9:00. I plan to be there Saturday and if I can handle it on Sunday too. 548 W Kelly St, Center Point, TX They have a Facebook page where they post some updates like closing down work when the weather got bad yesterday. Check it for updates before you go. Go prepared with PPE including masks, protective footwear, leather gloves and bug spray. Light medical like bandages and antibiotic ointment. Food and lots of water Tools - From my experience wheel barrows, flat shovels, box knives and blades, crow bars, hammers, and screw drivers are the basics. Edit: Also a change of clothes so you can change before you drive home.

  8. HEB Emergency Operations director for next head of FEMA.
  9. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
  10. Seems like we need more of this
  11. Thankfully someone else was able to help her out today. Still planning for next weekend surge
  12. West Kerr just gave me the name of an 80-year-old lady who is trying to clean her house out herself. I would like to get a group of guys that can go tomorrow,Sunday, to help. Please message me if you can. I will be in touch with the guys who have already contacted me. There will be many more to help next weekend in other parts of the affected area.
  13. So I'm sure they yare looking into the pilots backgrounds already. Recent traumas, evidence of radical beliefs, etc.
  14. Did Melania wear her jacket?
  15. Did she wear the "I really don't care" jacket again?
  16. The Chinese used the Kuznetsov's incomplete sister ship to create the Liaoning. They've already been there and moved on to their own upgraded design since then. Although we would all get a huge laugh out of the Russians trying to tow the Kuznetsov to China. That would make for hilarious headlines.
  17. Or possibly the security system records the digital files in fixed time blocks like a minute, 10 minutes, an hour or a day and they have to stitch video that spans two files together. Most places are not using video tape anymore and so you have time boxed files. But I'll wait for Bongino to comment more.
  18. Dan Bongino: https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/11/politics/bongino-consider-resigning-epstein-files
  19. The whole post did not show up for me but this is what I thought of:
  20. He literally said that he was in Oakland, which is not Austin
  21. Updates: I have several POCs in different areas that will need cleanup. I'm communicating with them on timing. I posted a link to one of the larger ones on the How you can help thread. I have relatives in Kerrville working the SAR. They are from a family of firefighters and local insurance. They and others are telling me that some of the smaller areas might be overlooked. I'll try to set people up with where help is needed the most. I have about 10 people who have sent me an initial "I'll help" message I will start posting information about timing and locations soon. When it's time to move we'll move some of the logistics coordination to direct communications.
  22. This looks like a legit organization to sign up to help. I’m going to contact them that I have some people that can come in for cleanup. They have other services they need help with. There will be other areas too. https://www.ranchradiomarketinggroup.com/hillcountrystrong if you want to help with other surly people send me a PM or post in the other thread
  23. Thanks for the warnings guys. I am slowly building a list of people willing to do back breaking work in the Texas heat under emotionally charged circumstances. The reminders that this is not for everyone are valid. I am also getting the on site contacts I need now to help line up the places to go that need help so we are expected when we show up. Also, not all the work is super physical. Sometimes it's washing the mud off dishes and stacking them, helping sort and clean family possessions, helping a homeowner with sorting things they point out. So if that's something you're up for hit me up. (It will still be muddy, hot and emotional). one of the guys that messaged pointed out that being bilingual is a special skill too so it's added on the list. If you message me let me know: home base (i.e. S Austin, San Marcos, Round Rock) level of experience with this kind of cleanup any special skills you have like plumber, electrician, construction knowledge, equipment operator any notable tools you have access to Bilingual?
