Most of it all happened about 10-12 years ago when Shaggy was a wilder place. Those were funner, simpler, and more carefree days.

I went through about a 2-year bout of post-divorce insanity and dated a cam girl who liked knives, voodoo, and heart-shaped sunglasses. I didn't know about the cam stuff until we'd been dating for a few months. I embraced the insanity and had a running thread for a while on the old site. SquishMitten got the acronym right.

When I was seeing MFCDG and going through some other "rough patches," my preference was to document/share the idiocy on the old scat site. No video, though. Thank gawd.

Someone upthread questioned what Trump's big money donors were going to do when ICE comes for their workers. Well, I think you're getting warmer to answering that question: selective enforcement. Aid: "Mr. President, we just got a call from a billionaire donor in Washington, Tom Macintosh, that his workers aren't showing up for work because they're scared of getting deported." Diaper Don, marinating in his own fetid feces miasma: "Tell him he has nothing to worry about. A lot of people are saying we need the technology. I love the technology. We have the best technology. Look, tell him we won't go after the people with small hands." Aid: "Sir, I...I'm not following. Wouldn't workers with bigger hands be better in this situation, Your Flatulency?" Glancing up to his assistant, revealing orange grease-paint stains on his previously white collars, Julius Squeezer replies: "You're dumb. Everybody says we need the Orientals to make the technology because they have small hands. People are saying I have the biggest hands. Also, they're good at math." Aid: "Yes, yes, all that's true. We do need those people, but I'm afraid we've crossed our wires. Mr. Macintosh owns the top apple orchards in the Wenatchee Valley and is the number three producer east of the Cascades. He apparently employs thousands of Mexican workers from all over Central and South America. If he can't get them to work, this year's apple harvest will rot on the branches." Stopping in mid-lumber-toward-the-loo, the Presidementia turns and shouts: "I don't care. Get them the hell outa here! They're VERMIN who are POISONING THE BLOOD OF OUR SOIL." Aid: "Sir, Mr. Macintosh is offering to double his campaign donations and has pledged to bottle a new brand of sparkling cider in your honor: Donny Nappleseed's Sleepy Cider or Trumpelstiltskin's Liquid Gold." Plopping down on his patinaed potty, the Plumpkin McPornhumper smirks and lets out a prolonged: "Aaaaaaahhhh, it's the shart of the deal."

First off, Obama wasn't exactly timid about deportation, plus he and the Senate Dems put together a comprehensive immigration reform bill together in the 2012-2013 timeframe, and the House Republicans wouldn't even bring it up for a vote. Trump offered nothing but anger, hate, and a stupid wall. The Dems in the House offered a big border bill, but the Republican Senate also refused to bring up a vote. Of course, Biden's recent bill was also killed by the GOP. The Dems HAVE BEEN trying to address people's concerns for more than a decade, but the GOP keeps getting in the way, so nothing gets done. Remind me, how the fuck is this the Dems' fault other than they fucking suck at messaging?

Caught up on the thread. Looks like we've got a few CPL Uphams around here.

That guy had a thousand-yard stare an infinity gaze going while sitting in that golf cart.

No, you were arguing that Dems weren't taking immigration policy seriously by repeating Republican talking points about Dem inaction. You did not argue anything about marketing/fighting disinformation until I brought it up that the GOP was lying. Until this "blatantly unconstitutional" (as the Reagan-appointed judge put it) crisis is over, I refuse to discuss policy like it's some simple matter of rational disagreement.
-
Of course, it's not a surprise. If you haven't noticed, I (and many others) have been warning about this motherfucker for far longer than the three years that you've been around. The emphasis is there because you've fallen into the same fucking predictable "blame the Dems no matter what" narrative and someone needs to slap you upside the head over it. Here's a nice little thread where you can get caught up: https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/1965-daca-immigration-reform-whatever/

They did a fucking TERRIBLE job at marketing, messaging, and countering disinformation, but that's a wholly separate discussion from "policy" and unconstitutional actions by the Cunt-in-Chief.

There are several posters on this very site who've told stories of the substantial administrative burdens they (or family members) have borne to obtain citizenship. No, they haven't. Now, yes, FOX News and other conservative media outlets have framed Democrats as holding that position, and much of the mainstream media is too lazy to point out that Dems have proposed consistently put forward major legislative legislation going back to at least the Obama administration to overhaul our immigration system. EACH and every time, those legislative proposals have been killed by Republicans. We've already had this discussion in other immigration threads. Congrats on falling for right wing propaganda. Who doesn't see immigration reform as a policy issue? The Dems have demonstrated over and over they're willing to work on the policy; hence, all the efforts to pass legislation. And, yes, if we narrow this discussion back down to gutting the 14th Amendment. That's more than a Constitutional "issue." It's a fucking Constitutional CRISIS because THIS PRESIDENT IS TRYING TO UNILATERALLY NULLIFY A PORTION OF THE FUCKING CONSTITUTION!!! Ultimately, that's a bigger fucking deal than arguing policy.

If y'all haven't already noticed, Raw Dog is someone's latest account, one of them, at least. I mean, his first post was in the Covid thread, after all.

America's Foreign Policy & Other Shit Going On Around the World thread

We've got a kerfluffle with Colombia now. Trump Hits Colombia With Tariffs in Feud Over Military Deportation Flights Gustavo Petro said that the United States should not treat Colombian migrants as criminals and that he had already turned away U.S. military flights carrying deportees. Colombia refused to accept military deportation flights from the United States, setting off a furious reaction from President Trump, who on Sunday announced a barrage of tariffs and sanctions targeting the country, which has long been a top U.S. ally in Latin America. The United States will immediately impose a 25 percent tariff on all Colombian imports, and will raise them to 50 percent in one week, Mr. Trump said on social media. The Trump administration will also “fully impose” banking and financial sanctions against Colombia, and will apply a travel ban and revoke visas of Colombian government officials, the president said. The move reflects how Mr. Trump is making an example out of Colombia as countries around the world are grappling with how to prepare for the mass deportations of unauthorized immigrants that he has threatened. “This looks like a pretty bold and daring escalation on both sides,” said Will Freeman, a fellow for Latin America studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, citing Colombia’s economic reliance on the United States, which is still the South American country’s largest trading partner even as China has been making inroads. “But equally, for Trump to threaten Colombia this way is pretty bold itself,” Mr. Freeman added. “That’s because Colombia remains historically the longest standing, the deepest, strategic ally in the region.” Colombia’s president, Gustavo Petro, said earlier Sunday in a series of social media posts that Colombia would not accept military deportation flights from the United States until the Trump administration provided a process to treat Colombian migrants with “dignity and respect.” Mr. Petro also said that Colombia had already turned away military planes carrying Colombian deportees. While other countries in Latin America have raised concerns about Mr. Trump’s sweeping deportation plans, Colombia appears to be among the first to explicitly refuse to cooperate. cont'd: -
Yes, it's widely well-known that most of the "New World" has more-or-less unrestricted jus soli and most of the "Old World" does not. I think most of Western Europe also has some form of jus soli, but with some restrictions. What is the point you're trying to make?

They could be dead Xitter embeds that immamac's re-coding killed. Edit: Or simply just Xeets that got taken down at some point. That seemed to happen on occasion as well.

For those who didn't click the link, you may think from the URL "headline" that Navajos are accidentally getting swept up. Here's a key passage from the article to show how fucked up this is: Ignacio said the Trump administration’s new policies are taking aim at tribal communities in new and shocking ways, which will draw attention to them and spur tribal responses. For example, the Trump administration openly questioned the U.S. citizenship of Indigenous peoples as part of its defense of Trump’s executive order to suspend birthright citizenship in the U.S. Trump signed the executive order shortly after he was sworn into office this week. It would end birthright citizenship for babies born to a mother and father who are not U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. A federal judge in Seattle on Thursday temporarily blocked the executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship, calling Trump’s action “blatantly unconstitutional.” In defending the constitutionality of the executive order, the U.S. Department of Justice erroneously argued in court that Indigenous people didn’t have birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment because they were not “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States, so neither should the children of noncitizen immigrants. “The United States’ connection with the children of illegal aliens and temporary visitors is weaker than its connection with members of Indian tribes,” DOJ argued in a filing. “If the latter link is insufficient for birthright citizenship, the former certainly is,” the Trump administration argued.” The DOJ cited an 1884 U.S. Supreme Court case, Elk v. Wilkins, in which the high court decided that “because members of Indian tribes owe ‘immediate allegiance’ to their tribes, they are not ‘subject to the jurisdiction’ of the United States and are not constitutionally entitled to Citizenship.” But the DOJ ignored congressional action, the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, that explicitly gave Indigenous people U.S. birthright citizenship and effectively ended the rejection of citizenship that the Supreme Court had upheld four decades earlier.
